Abstract

This study analyzes the human‑interest narrative in the book Totto‑Chan: The Little Girl at the Window from a journalistic perspective. The research questions are: How is the human‑interest narrative presented in the book when viewed from a journalistic perspective? And How do journalistic narrative techniques construct human‑interest values in the book? The objectives are to analyze the presentation of human‑interest narrative in Totto‑Chan from a journalistic viewpoint, and examine the journalistic narrative techniques used to build human‑interest values. Theoretical grounding employs Teun A. van Dijk’s concept of human interest in discourse analysis, which explains how texts are structured to evoke attention, emotion, empathy, and reader engagement through human elements. This research uses a qualitative, descriptive‑analytic approach. Data collection is documentary (library) study, with primary data (the Totto‑Chan text) and secondary sources (related literature). The main research location is Gramedia Palembang, as the site for accessing the children’s literature collection and the translated Japanese edition. Data are analyzed qualitatively using systematic content analysis to identify themes, narrative strategies, and journalistic language elements that contribute to human‑interest value. The study aims to reveal patterns of human‑interest presentation and the journalistic narrative techniques that strengthen readers’ emotional involvement in Totto‑Chan.

Abstract

As an archipelagic country with more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia has ongoing structural connection gaps, as evidenced by national logistics costs that account for 23 and 24 percent of GDP and regional differences in food prices that can exceed 300 percent in the east. Using the Khan-Hilton transformational leadership framework, which includes idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration, this study examines the transformational leadership of Budi Karya Sumadi as Minister of Transportation (2016–2024) through a comparative case study of the Jakarta–Bandung Whoosh High-Speed Rail and the Sea Toll (Tol Laut) program. Data were gathered from peer reviewed journals, official policy papers, and government reports published between 2018 and 2024 using a qualitative descriptive strategy that included focused content analysis and a systematic literature review. The results show that Whoosh, which began full operation on October 17, 2023, and served over 5.4 million passengers in its first year despite ongoing financial sustainability challenges from its US$7.2 billion investment, is a prime example of intellectual stimulation and idealized influence through high-technology innovation. Although backhaul inequities still exist, Tol Laut, which grew from 3 routes in 2015 to 39 routes in 2023 and reduced commodity pricing discrepancies by 12.18 percent by 2022, is a prime example of customized consideration and inspirational motivation through spatial justice. The study comes to the conclusion that in order to guarantee long-lasting policy change, effective transformational leadership necessitates ongoing institutional commitment beyond individual tenure.

Abstract

Toll road development has become one of the Indonesian government's strategic efforts to improve regional connectivity and support national economic growth. During the period of 2014–2024, toll road development experienced significant acceleration under the leadership of the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono. This study aims to analyze the transformation of toll road development in Indonesia through the perspective of transformational leadership. The study adopts Bass’s transformational leadership theory, which consists of four dimensions: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. A qualitative approach was employed using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Data were collected through documentation studies of scientific journal articles, academic books, and relevant government documents. The selected literature was analyzed thematically to identify patterns and relationships between transformational leadership and infrastructure development outcomes. The findings indicate that the acceleration of toll road development was supported by regulatory reforms, innovative financing schemes, and transformational leadership practices that strengthened inter-agency coordination and facilitated the resolution of development challenges. Furthermore, the leadership approach contributed to the successful implementation of infrastructure policies and the expansion of the national toll road network. The study concludes that transformational leadership played a significant role in supporting the successful transformation of toll road development in Indonesia during the period under review.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has pushed social media into becoming a crucial instrument for public oversight of bureaucratic performance. This study aims to analyze the role of social media as a means of public control in enhancing transparency, accountability, and responsiveness of bureaucracy in the digital era. This study is based on role theory, which understands role as a dynamic element of a person's position in exercising their rights and duties. Social media acts as a bridge between two different systems, namely society and bureaucracy, so that society can behave according to the expectations of their environment as supervisors of public services. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach using literature study and document analysis techniques. Data were obtained from various sources, such as scientific journals, books, research reports, laws and regulations, online news, and publications relevant to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques with the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that social media has transformed into a digital participation space that allows the public to convey criticism and complaints, as well as directly supervise public services. Social media also contributes to increasing bureaucratic transparency and accountability through the rapid and open dissemination of information. However, the effectiveness of digital public control is influenced by the public's digital literacy capacity, bureaucratic responsiveness to criticism, and digital media governance regulations. Furthermore, the emergence of viral-based policy has encouraged bureaucracies to respond quickly to public issues, despite the risk of producing reactive policies. Therefore, the integration of social media into formal bureaucratic oversight systems is necessary to support the realization of more transparent, accountable, responsive, and participatory governance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the stages of film production as the foundation for creating high-quality cinematographic works. Film production is a complex and systematic process involving several interconnected stages, namely pre-production, production, and post-production. Each stage plays a significant role in determining the success of a film, both in terms of technical execution, artistic quality, and the effective delivery of messages to audiences. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method using a library research approach. The data were collected from various academic sources, including books, scientific journals, articles, and other relevant literature related to film production management and cinematography. The findings indicate that the pre-production stage serves as the primary foundation for planning a film through idea development, scriptwriting, budgeting, casting, and technical preparation. The production stage involves the implementation of all planned activities through the filming process while managing both artistic and technical aspects. Furthermore, the post-production stage focuses on refining the film through video editing, sound editing, visual effects, music scoring, and distribution. Therefore, the success of a cinematographic work depends on the integration and effective management of every stage of film production, resulting in audiovisual works with strong technical quality, aesthetic value, and effective communication.

Abstract

This research is based on the fact that journalists' editorial statements in novels are often used by the press (or journalists/writers with press backgrounds) to describe the state of the press world for several important reasons, namely greater freedom of expression. Leila S. Chudori's novel Laut Bercerita tells the dramatic story of student activists during the New Order era in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to examine press freedom in Leila S. Chudori's novel Laut Bercerita. The title of the paper is "Analysis of Press Freedom in Leila S. Chudori's Novel Laut Bercerita." This research uses Critical Journalism Theory, an approach derived from the tradition of critical theory and agenda-setting theory developed within the Frankfurt School. This research uses a qualitative analysis method (liberal research), analyzing Leila S. Chudori's novel Laut Bercerita. The results of the research on press freedom in Leila S. Chudori's novel Laut Bercerita indicate that the lack of press freedom in journalism is closely related to repressive practices of power. The silencing of the press has implications for human rights violations, the spread of propaganda, and the loss of state oversight. This novel simultaneously critiques the authoritarian press system and emphasizes the importance of press freedom in a democratic life..

Abstract

This study examines the roles of social media and primordialism in the political mobilization of the community in Tanjungpinang City. Social media has become a crucial tool for disseminating political information, shaping public opinion, and enhancing civic engagement in the democratic process. Conversely, primordialism—linked to identities such as ethnicity, religion, culture, and region of origin—continues to influence the community’s political behavior. The study reveals that social media usage can accelerate the spread of political information while simultaneously amplifying the impact of group identity on political choices. Although this can boost civic engagement in politics, it may also lead to the spread of hoaxes, polarization, and identity politics if not balanced with adequate digital literacy. Consequently, to ensure that political mobilization in Tanjungpinang is conducted democratically, rationally, and based on shared interests, political education and smarter social media usage are required.

Abstract

The phenomenon of living together among university students reflects a shift in how individuals construct and interpret interpersonal relationships. This practice is not merely associated with physical proximity but also involves complex communication dynamics within romantic relationships. Based on a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews, the findings indicate that the decision to cohabit is shaped by a combination of emotional, practical, and social factors. Communication emerges as a key element in establishing mutual understanding, although initial interactions tend to be implicit and not fully explored. In everyday life, communication becomes more intensive and open, yet it also increases the potential for conflict, requiring management through openness, trust, and negotiation. Social pressure from the surrounding environment is addressed through adaptive strategies, such as limiting external disclosure and strengthening internal communication. These findings suggest that living together functions as a dynamic space for interpersonal communication negotiation in maintaining relationships.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed the way companies build their brand image, one of which is through digital branding strategies. This study was motivated by the strategic move of PT Semen Padang to launch an innovative sub-brand product called SEPABLOCK (Semen Padang Bata Interlock). Although PT Semen Padang has a strong reputation for its bagged cement products, this has created a challenge in the form of “single memory” in the community, which can hinder brand awareness of new products with different technical characteristics. This study aims to analyze the digital branding strategies implemented by PT Semen Padang through social media and websites to educate the market and build brand awareness of SEPABLOCK, particularly in the context of the characteristics of the construction market and local culture in West Sumatra. The method used is descriptive qualitative to dissect the digital communication model that integrates aspects of education, product visualization, and messages based on local needs such as cost efficiency and earthquake resistance. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on analyzing sub-brand products in the heavy industry sector (state-owned enterprises) operating in markets with specific socio-cultural characteristics. The results of this study are expected to contribute theoretically to the effectiveness of digital branding in the building materials industry and provide practical recommendations for companies in optimizing digital media to expand the market share of innovative products
