Abstract

Employee performance in the field of health and pharmaceutical services plays a crucial role in determining the quality of services provided to the community. In the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office, various internal and external factors are believed to influence employee performance, but there has not been much research that comprehensively examines these factors. This study aims to identify and analyze factors related to employee performance in the health and pharmaceutical services sector at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted from July 23 to August 14, 2025, at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office. The sample consisted of 34 respondents selected through total sampling. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results of the study show that there is a relationship between educational characteristics (p value = 0.007), length of service (p value = 0.007), and motivation (p value = 0.000) with the performance of employees in the health and pharmaceutical services sector of the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office in 2024. There was no relationship between age (p value = 0.427) and gender (p value = 0.363) characteristics and the performance of employees in the health and pharmaceutical services sector of the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office. Factors such as motivation, training, and work environment play an important role in determining the performance of employees in the health and pharmaceutical services sector at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office. Therefore, improving training programs and efforts to increase employee motivation are recommended to improve overall performance.

Abstract

This study analyzes the burden on health services and the level of regional preparedness during the 2025 flood disaster in North Sumatra Province. Using a descriptive-analytic design with secondary data obtained from official disaster reports, this research examines the number of affected households, displaced populations, mortality, and emergency response status across 18 districts and cities. Findings show significant variations in the magnitude of impacts, with regions experiencing higher numbers of affected populations demonstrating greater pressure on health services, particularly in emergency care, communicable disease prevention, and shelter-based health management. Furthermore, regions that activated emergency response status earlier and demonstrated stronger preparedness were found to experience lower health burdens. These results highlight the importance of integrating disaster preparedness into local health system planning to strengthen resilience against hydrometeorological disasters. The study emphasizes the need for improved intersectoral coordination, enhanced health logistics capacity, and readiness of health personnel to respond effectively to large-scale emergencies.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a global public health problem, particularly in developing countries. Iron supplementation is the main intervention recommended for the prevention and management of anemia during pregnancy. This literature review aims to analyze the effectiveness of iron supplementation in preventing anemia among pregnant women using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. Article searches were conducted through scientific databases and the attached journals, with a publication range from 2019 to 2024. The selection process resulted in 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Narrative synthesis showed that iron supplementation, whether administered alone or combined with vitamin C or other supportive nutritional interventions, was effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. Adherence to supplementation and nutritional education support were significant factors influencing the success of the intervention.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the health problems whose incidence is increasing and is often complained about by people around the world. Globally, Indonesia ranks fifth in the number of diabetes mellitus cases with 19.5 million people. Dietary patterns, including energy intake, carbohydrates, protein, fat, and nutritional status, play a role in the incidence of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and nutritional status with the incidence of diabetes mellitus at the Bahteramas Regional General Hospital in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study design used a cross-sectional method with purposive sampling. The study respondents were inpatients aged ≥ 20 years. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The study was conducted in April-May 2025. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between dietary patterns (p=0.008) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. However, no significant relationship was found between nutritional status (p=0.421) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus. Thus, it is important to pay attention to nutrient consumption patterns and nutritional status in the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem characterized by a child’s height being inappropriate for their age, particularly among children under five years old. One of the interventions implemented to prevent stunting is immunization. However, immunization coverage, especially complete basic immunization, has not yet reached the target, including in Medan City. Therefore, this literature study aims to explore the determinants of complete basic immunization coverage in Medan City using the Google Scholar database. The literature search identified nine articles that were extracted and discussed in this study. The determinants of complete basic immunization coverage include individual maternal factors such as age, education level, knowledge, attitudes, and mothers’ beliefs or perceptions toward immunization; social support factors including family support, economic conditions, and prevailing norms and cultural practices within families and communities; as well as health service factors. Comprehensive and integrated interventions are urgently needed to achieve optimal complete basic immunization coverage in Medan City.

Abstract

Public health administration plays a strategic role in strengthening primary health care governance amid increasingly complex health system challenges. This study aimed to synthesize recent evidence on the development, challenges, and implications of public health administration during the period 2020–2025. A literature review with a systematic approach was conducted by analyzing peer-reviewed articles retrieved from major scientific databases and selected through a PRISMA 2020 flow process. The findings indicate that effective public health administration—characterized by strong governance, adaptive leadership, and the integration of digital health information systems—contributes to improved performance of primary health care services in terms of service quality, efficiency, and sustainability. However, the review also reveals persistent gaps, particularly the limited empirical evidence examining causal relationships between administrative capacity and health service performance, as well as challenges related to human resource readiness and data governance in digital transformation. These findings highlight the need to strengthen administrative capacity, leadership competencies, and integrated information systems to support resilient primary health care. The study provides theoretical and practical implications for policymakers, health managers, and researchers in advancing public health administration toward more effective and sustainable health systems.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of human resource management (HRM) in improving performance and retention among healthcare professionals in health service facilities. Using a systematic literature review approach based on the PRISMA method, this study reviewed 25 international and national journal articles published between 2015 and 2025. The findings indicate that strategic HRM practices—such as competency-based recruitment, continuous professional development, fair compensation, and transformational leadership—positively influence both performance and retention of healthcare workers. Additionally, factors like organizational culture, work-life balance, and psychological well-being play a mediating role in enhancing job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The results highlight that HRM practices are not merely administrative functions but strategic elements that determine healthcare organizations’ sustainability and competitiveness. The study contributes to the development of theoretical frameworks in strategic HRM and provides practical recommendations for healthcare managers to design more adaptive, fair, and human-centered HR policies.

Abstract

The rapid growth of internet access and digital device usage in Indonesia has made gadgets an inseparable part of students’ daily lives. While smartphones facilitate communication and access to information, excessive use—particularly before bedtime—has been associated with poor sleep quality. This quantitative correlational study aimed to identify the relationship between gadget use before sleep and sleep quality among students of SMK Yapim Sibiru-biru. A total of 110 students were selected purposively and asked to complete a structured questionnaire measuring gadget use duration, activity type, use of “Night Mode,” and various aspects of sleep quality. Data were analyzed using descriptive and Pearson correlation tests at a 0.05 significance level. Results showed that 87.5% of students used gadgets before sleep, with smartphones being the most common device. The majority (46.88%) reported using gadgets for 1–2 hours before bed, primarily for social media and entertainment. Most respondents slept between 10:00 p.m. and midnight, with an average sleep duration of 4–6 hours, lower than the recommended 7–9 hours. Statistical analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between gadget use duration and sleep quality—longer use was associated with poorer sleep. Additionally, low awareness of blue light filtering features exacerbated sleep problems such as insomnia and fatigue. These findings highlight the importance of behavioral interventions and sleep hygiene education to mitigate the adverse effects of nighttime gadget use. Recommended strategies include limiting screen time one hour before sleep, enabling “Night Mode,” and engaging in relaxing pre-sleep activities to promote better sleep quality and overall well-being

Abstract

Background: Family planning is a critical public health strategy to control population growth and improve maternal and child health. Among the available contraceptive methods, the Intrauterine Device (IUD) is highly effective and long-term, yet its uptake remains low in many communities. Midwives play a pivotal role in promoting IUD adoption through counselling, education, and community engagement, but their effectiveness in specific local contexts requires further investigation. Objective: This study aimed to examine the role of midwives in increasing women’s participation in IUD family planning at the Bone Pantai Community Health Center. Methods: A quantitative descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The population included women of reproductive age (15–49 years) eligible for IUD contraception and midwives providing family planning services. A purposive sampling technique was used to select participants. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, interviews, and observation checklists. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, with descriptive statistics to summarize participant characteristics and inferential tests, including the Chi-square test, to examine relationships between midwife interventions and IUD uptake.
