Abstract

Adolescents who play the role of primary caregivers for parents with chronic illnesses face a heavy psychological burden. This can cause significant anxiety and affect their psychological condition. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of psychoeducation and self-counseling in reducing anxiety in adolescents who experience role burden. The method used is a case study with a comprehensive psychiatric nursing care approach. The participant in the study was a 19-year-old female adolescent who experienced anxiety symptoms due to her role as a caregiver for parents with advanced cancer. This therapy was carried out for six sessions from March 10-22, 2025 with different topics at each meeting. Counseling and education topics include anxiety, managing negative thoughts, time management, relaxation techniques and self-evaluation and reflection. The effectiveness of therapy was measured using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) and Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) questionnaires. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it shows a decrease in the GAD-7 score from 14 (moderate anxiety) to 3 (minimal anxiety) and a decrease in the SRQ-20 score from 9 to less than 6, which indicates no psychological disorders. In addition, the Client showed the ability to apply coping strategies independently, increased emotional control, and improvements in psychological well-being. The assessment of nursing care and the nursing problems were anxiety. Psychoeducation and independent counseling have proven effective in reducing anxiety in adolescents with role burdens. Development and implementation of similar interventions are needed in a wider scope to support the mental health of adolescents, especially those facing the burden of the role as caregivers.

Abstract

Stroke is a health problem that is often experienced by the elderly due to decreased heart organ function, with the prevalence of cases increasing with age by 7.4% in the world and in Indonesia 23.6 per-mile. Non-invasive alternative therapy is considered as a complementary therapy that is easy to do, one of which is range of motion (ROM) exercises, which are types of exercises that aim to maintain or improve joint mobility, muscle mass and tone. Warm compresses are a therapy that provides a warm sensation to the skin that can deactivate nerve fibers so that they relax muscles, reduce muscle spasms and pain. According to research, ROM exercises combined with warm compresses have shown effectiveness in increasing muscle strength in stroke patients. The lack of implementation of these interventions due to the limited abilities of the elderly, makes the elderly with stroke experience hemiparesis or continuous weakness of the limbs. This study aims to see the effect of ROM exercises combined with warm compresses on increasing muscle strength in elderly patients with stroke. The research method used is a case report by conducting interventions on the elderly with ischemic stroke who experience hemiparesis in Padukuhan Gunungan, Bambanglipuro, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This research instrument uses blood pressure and muscle strength measurements before and after the intervention. The intervention was given in 8 meetings with a frequency of 1x/week for 60 minutes each session with a therapy aid. The results showed changes in blood pressure before and after the intervention and an increase in the patient's muscle strength. Based on the study, it can be concluded that there is potential for increased muscle strength in the elderly with stroke, but further quasi-experimental studies with larger samples are needed to confirm the existing findings.

Abstract

Respiratory failure is a condition in which the respiratory system is unable to perform its gas exchange function effectively, resulting in inadequate oxygen intake and insufficient removal of carbon dioxide. Patients with respiratory failure with Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) and sups. COPD must get fast initial treatment because they cannot ventilate spontaneously. Initial handling of respiratory failure in the Emergency Department (ED) airway, breathing, and circulation, according to the principles of Advanced Life Support. If airway obstruction is found, measures are taken to ensure airway patency, such as head repositioning maneuvers, use of oropharyngeal airway, or endotracheal intubation if needed. Furthermore, oxygen therapy is given. The method used is a descriptive case study that aims to describe the initial management of patients with respiratory failure with Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) and suspected Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the Emergency Department (ED). The subject was one adult patient with complaints of acute shortness of breath and a history of smoking, purposively selected based on clinical emergencies that require immediate intervention. Management was carried out using the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) approach, including airway evaluation and intervention, ventilatory support, hemodynamic stabilization, assessment of neurological status with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), and identification of additional clinical findings through supporting examinations. Proper emergency management in the emergency room with the ABCDE approach shows effective results in restoring breathing, ensuring systemic oxygenation, and preventing complications due to respiratory failure.

Abstract

The postpartum period is an important period for mothers after giving birth, especially for adolescents who are in the transition period towards adulthood. Adolescent mothers tend to face physical and psychological challenges and experience limited knowledge in caring for themselves and their babies due to unpreparedness to play the role of a mother. One effective intervention to overcome this problem is health education through health promotion media. This study aims to improve the knowledge of adolescent mothers regarding postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care, as well as strengthen self-confidence in carrying out the role of a mother. The method used is a descriptive study with a case study approach on one adolescent postpartum patient who experienced a knowledge deficit. Data collection techniques include interviews, physical examinations, Gordon function pattern assessments, observations, and medical record reviews. Nursing interventions are provided in accordance with the Indonesian Nursing Intervention and Outcome Standards. The results showed an increase in understanding, active participation in education, and initial skills in breastfeeding and self-care practices. In conclusion, health education through promotion media has proven effective in improving the understanding and readiness of adolescent mothers to undergo the postpartum period.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the psychosocial conditions of caregivers who care for patients with mental disorders and identify their needs for guidance and counseling services. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, 45 caregivers in the working area of the Pariaman City Community Health Center were selected as research respondents through random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring care burden, coping strategies, social support, and other psychosocial needs. The results of the study indicate that the majority of caregivers experience moderate to heavy care burdens, with dominant coping strategies being passive and religious in nature. The social support received primarily comes from the immediate family, while community support remains low due to stigma surrounding mental disorders. A total of 88.9% of caregivers reported needing counseling and guidance services. These findings underscore the importance of psychosocial assessment as a foundation for developing contextually appropriate counseling interventions to enhance caregivers' mental resilience and support patients' holistic recovery..

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. Treatment adherence is a key challenge, especially in Emergency Departments (EDs), where time and resources are limited. A knowledge management-based nursing model has emerged as an innovative strategy to improve patient education and engagement in TB treatment.A literature review was conducted using Google Scholar, with keywords: pulmonary tuberculosis, treatment adherence, nursing model, knowledge management, and emergency department. From an initial 17,400 articles, 407 were selected based on inclusion criteria. Ten key studies published between 2021–2025 were thematically analyzed. The implementation of a knowledge management-based nursing model in ED settings significantly improved TB treatment adherence. Interventions such as telenursing, nurse training, health coaching, and digital technologies (video-DOT, mobile applications) enhanced patient understanding and strengthened nurse-patient communication. Training also improved nurses’ educational behavior and decision-making abilities in emergency contexts. The knowledge management-based nursing model effectively enhances treatment adherence in pulmonary TB patients in EDs. Integration of digital tools and consideration of patients' social factors strengthens nurses' roles as educators and change agents in emergency healthcare delivery.

Abstract

Stress plays a crucial role in affecting both mental and physical health, potentially contributing to changes in body weight and blood pressure. This study aims to explore the relationship between stress levels and body weight, as well as blood pressure, among the community living in the northern border region of Kalimantan, particularly in Sebatik Island. The research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 300 participants from the border community. The study has received ethical approval, as indicated by the letter number 113/KEPK-FIKES UBT/XI/2024. The results indicate a significant relationship between stress and body weight (p=<0,001), stress and systolic blood pressure (p=<0,001), as well as stress and diastolic blood pressure (p=<0,001). The instruments used for measurement include the DASS version 21, sphygmomanometer, and anthropometric scales. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of more effective mental health programs and evidence-based interventions. Furthermore, this study is anticipated to serve as a reference for future research in the field of psychiatric nursing in border areas, and be beneficial to both the public and educational institutions in understanding the impact of stress on physical health.
