Abstract

The 2019 New Zealand shootings, particularly the attacks on mosques in Christchurch, changed the way society views terrorism associated with Muslims. Despite the fact that the perpetrator was a right-wing extremist who was not a member of an Islamic group, its impact on perceptions of terrorism was significant. This article discusses the paradigm shift that occurred after the tragedy, emphasizing the fact that the media and public awareness began to recognize that terrorism is not limited to one particular religion or group. This shift highlights the importance of preventing generalizations and stereotyping of Muslims as a result of acts of terrorism carried out by individuals or small groups. In short, the New Zealand shootings have changed the way people perceive terrorism against Muslims. They also mark the beginning of a more critical and inclusive understanding of the sources of violence worldwide.

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum emphasizes student autonomy, contextual learning, and teacher flexibility. Within this framework, teachers act as facilitators whose approaches influence student engagement and character. This study examines teacher parenting styles—authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive—in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, based on the perceptions of elementary and junior high school students in Makassar. The study used a quantitative survey method with 257 students from 17 public and private schools through questionnaires assessing teacher-student interactions, discipline strategies, emotional responses, and classroom decision-making. Descriptive analysis revealed the authoritative style as the most dominant, characterized by emotional support, clear expectations, and student motivation. However, aspects of authoritarian and permissive styles also emerged, particularly in inconsistent rules and a lack of responsiveness to student aspirations. This variation is influenced by contextual factors and differences in teacher professional development. Effective implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires consistent authoritative practices. These findings emphasize the importance of teacher training in emotional regulation, inclusive pedagogy, and formative discipline, and encourage national education policies to strengthen character-based learning and teacher-student relationships in line with 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study analyzes how young Indonesian adults express their quarter-life crisis (QLC) experiences in an educational context using a Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach. The aim is to demonstrate that QLC is not only psychological in nature, but also manifests as linguistic performances of identity, insecurity, and resilience. The method used is mixed, combining descriptive statistics and discourse analysis. Data were collected from 33 respondents aged 18–30 years in Makassar through a 17-item Likert questionnaire covering insecurity, future anxiety, motivation, social comparison, religiosity, and satisfaction. Quantitative analysis was conducted by calculating frequencies, while responses were reanalyzed using the SFL Assessment framework (Attitude, Engagement, Graduation). The results reveal three main themes: (1) high anxiety, 36.4% always worry about the future and 54.5% sometimes feel insecure; (2) relational difficulties, 66.7% have difficulty trusting others and 21.2% often compare themselves on social media; (3) religiosity as a dominant coping strategy, 72.7% rely on faith in God's help. Linguistically, this pattern appears as negative affect, negative judgments of others, and positive faith-based modalities.

Abstract

In August 2025, Indonesia faced a legitimacy crisis after the House of Representatives (DPR) established a housing allowance of IDR 50 million per month for its members. Although billed as an administrative efficiency measure, this decision sparked controversy because legislators were deemed arrogant and impartial. This study used qualitative methods with Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), combining Fairclough's model and Van Dijk's socio-cognitive framework. Five statements were analyzed: numerical normalization (Adies Kadir), legal legitimacy (Ahmad Sahroni), structural normalization (Nafa Urbach), minimization (Eko Patrio), and rights-based legitimacy (Uya Kuya). Data came from videos, national media, and social media content. Results showed all discourse strategies failed; statements were perceived as symbols of arrogance, greed, or incompetence. Career politicians were criticized for being technocratic and out of touch with the public, while celebrity politicians were mocked more for their entertainment credentials. The media labeled statements as arrogant or absurd, while memes amplified phrases such as "DPR's rights" and "IDR 2.5 million per day" as symbols of elite insensitivity. These findings confirm that discourse strategies inconsistent with public perception accelerate delegitimization.

Abstract

Education policy is not only an administrative instrument, but also a discourse to legitimize reform, persuade stakeholders, and build accountability. In Indonesia, the Merdeka Belajar initiative marked a major shift in education governance, with Episode 3 focusing on the distribution of BOS funds. While previous research has highlighted the financial and governance aspects, few have addressed the discourse dimension. This study fills this gap by applying Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to the minister's speech launching Merdeka Belajar Episode 3. Analysis based on Halliday's metafunctional framework focused on the use of conjunctions as cohesive devices. The findings reveal three main rhetorical orientations: (1) expansion through additive conjunctions (and, or) that present the reform as comprehensive; (2) justification through causal conjunctions (because, so, in order that) that rationalize the policy as imperative; and (3) legitimation through projection (that) that presents an authoritative voice to strengthen institutional credibility. This pattern confirms that language choices serve an ideological function by portraying BOS reform as inclusive, rational, and accountable. By comparing the Indonesian case with studies of policy discourse in Australia, Europe, China, and the US, this research contributes to the global debate on the language and legitimacy of reform.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a T-Pack (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge) based learning tool to improve the literacy skills of Al-Washliyah Muslim Nusantara University students. The learning tools are in the form of Lesson Plans (RPP) and Student Worksheets (LKS). Student worksheets are learning media as a means to train students to think, act and behave like young scientists. This research is a development research and is designed using a 4D model development design and the research subjects are 7th semester students of UMN Al-Washliyah. The instruments used are student response questionnaires, observation sheets, literacy ability assessment instruments. Tpack is a learning model that is currently often used in the world of education. The practice of implementing this method includes mastery of technology, pedagogy and knowledge of learning content. Data collection will be carried out to obtain accurate and objective data through observations on the UMN Al-Washliyah campus. The results of the study indicate that the development of TPACK-based learning tools is quite effective in improving literacy skills, with a score of 121, meaning that observers give a good category interpretation with a value of A, while the percentage is 89%.

Abstract

Village economic empowerment is a national development priority to reduce inequality and improve welfare and independence. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of a soap-making training program and digital marketing strategies as an effort to empower the economy in Karangjaya Village. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were PKK members and mothers. The results showed that this program was able to increase community capacity in aspects of production, packaging, and marketing skills. The expected impact of this program is the creation of new business units, an increase in the average income of participants, and increased self-confidence in entrepreneurship. This program demonstrates that the combination of technical skills with digital literacy can be a powerful catalyst in achieving economic independence at the village level.

Abstract

The Young Entrepreneurs Financial Management Mentoring Program at MTs Al-Istiqamah was implemented to foster an entrepreneurial spirit while improving students' financial management skills. The background to this activity stems from common problems often experienced by young entrepreneurs, namely weak transaction recording, mixing capital and profits, and lack of discipline in managing cash flow. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) based on community organizing, involving students as the main subjects, accompanied by supervising teachers and KKN students. The series of activities included interactive counseling, simple cash recording workshops, business simulations, school bazaar practices, and joint evaluations. The program results showed an increase in students' ability to create neat, transparent, and easy-to-understand financial reports. In addition to the technical impact, this activity also encouraged the formation of a school young entrepreneur community, fostering leadership, cooperation, and a new awareness towards social transformation within the MTs Al-Istiqamah environment.

Abstract

The community service program at SDN Karangjaya, Sukabumi, focused on preventing bullying and conflict between students through character education transformation. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) method was used by involving teachers, students, and parents in identifying problems, planning, implementing, and evaluating the program. Activities included teacher training, student coaching through extracurricular activities, and anti-bullying campaigns. The results showed a decrease in verbal bullying from 28% to 15% and student fights from 12% to 5%. Teachers were more skilled at integrating character values ​​into learning, students increased their awareness of the importance of mutual respect, and parents were more active in accompanying their children. This program proves that character education transformation is effective as a preventive approach to creating a peaceful, child-friendly, and violence-free school culture.

Abstract

Adolescents are an age group vulnerable to various psychosocial pressures, including the negative impacts of social media use such as cyberbullying. This digital bullying can cause emotional disturbances that impact mental health, such as anxiety, stress, and depression. This study aims to determine the relationship between cyberbullying and the mental health of adolescents at Dharma Bhakti High School, Palembang in 2025. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 149 students selected through simple random sampling. The instruments used were the Cyberbullying Questionnaire (CBQ) item and the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-38). Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a relationship between cyberbullying and adolescent mental health (p-value <0.05), where students who experienced cyberbullying tended to have more disturbed mental health. The majority of adolescents experienced cyberbullying at low levels (77.2%), moderate (21.5%), and high (1.3%). The mental health of most adolescents was classified as very good (73.8%), good (22.8%), and poor (3.4%). This study recommends that adolescents use social media more wisely, avoid cyberbullying, and immediately seek support from parents, teachers, or counselors if they become victims.
