This study aims to improve students' reading comprehension through Wattpad media. This study analyzes how the use of Wattpad media can improve students' reading comprehension achievement. This research was conducted in SMA Swasta Bandung. The subjects of this study were students of class XI, totaling 30 students. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). There are two cycles to give students more opportunities to improve their understanding of how to find the main idea and understand the message well and effectively. The results showed that the students' reading ability increased significantly. In the pretest the average score was 29.83, in the first cycle the average score was 44.67, and in the second cycle, the average score was 79.67. The increase was also seen from the percentage of students who passed the KKM in reading narrative texts, in the pre-test, 6.67% of students got more than 75 points, in cycle 1 16.67% students got more than 75 points, and in cycle 2 70% students got more than 75 points. So, this media can help students to remember the main information and ideas from the texts they read, students can also enrich their vocabulary. Based on the results of this study, the researcher recommends the use of Wattpad media in reading because Wattpad can improve reading comprehension achievement

Enzymes are natural products that play an important role in various industrial applications, from food processing to chemical products. One of the most widely used enzymes is amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that plays a role in starch hydrolysis. Amylolytic bacteria can be isolated in the digestive tract of fish. This is most bacteria that occupy the digestive tract have high activity. This study aims to obtain a potential isolate producing amylase bacteria whose activity can be determined through morphological characterization and activity test of enzyme-producing bacteria. The results obtained from this study were ten isolates with the potential to produce amylase enzymes, which were marked with a positive test after the addition of iodine.

Critical reading has close links to EFL students’ competence in reading comprehension. Reading is one of the skills which encourage the readers to think critically in understanding the texts comprehensively without concerning on the written text itself. In the level of university specifically English education major, the aims of language learning is a mean of communication. It encourages the students to be able to understand the language concept in form of writing of various topics, explain the relationship and apply it by transforming the information or ideas with their own language. Thus, this research describes the critical thinking of the students as reflected on the IELTS reading test on the reading class. The respondents consisted of 25 students of English department from semester VII in 2017/2018 academic year in UMN Al-wasliyah. The research was conducted in qualitative in which the data were collected through reading test, observation, and interview. The findings recognize that critical reading skills are utmost importance for EFL students. However, many of them unable to apply relevant critical thinking skills in analyzing what they were reading. Keywords: Critical Thinking, Critical Reading, IELTS.

This research attempts to improve the students’ achievement on listening comprehension through cooperative listening. The research was conducted at the second grade by using classroom action research at the second grade students of SMA N 6 Medan. Four classes were selected as subjects that consist of 35 students. The students were taught cooperative listening meanwhile for the qualitative data, interview and observation were conducted. The quantitative data were collected by giving 10 multiple choice tests and calculating the mean. The result of the research shows that the mean of the second cycle (80.85%) was higher than the mean of the first cycle (68.28%). Based on the observation and interview, the students were becoming active and enthusiastic during the teaching learning processes.

The objective of the research was to investigate the improvement of critical reading skills in reading by the English students through reciprocal questioning (ReQuest). The respondents consisted of 25 students from the VII grade in 2017/2018 academic year. The data were collected through reading tests, observation, and interview. The result indicated that the application of reciprocal questioning strategy significantly improve the critical reading ability of the students as reflected in pre-test and post-test in cycle 1 and cycle 2: 9.8; 16.04; and 17.64. The findings were supported by the respondents’ positive attitudes as reflected in the interviews.

This research investigates 1) students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DR-TA) strategy is higher than taught by using Know, What to Learn, and Learned (KWL) strategy, 2) students’ achievement in reading comprehension with impulsive learning style is higher than students’ achievement in reading comprehension with reflective learning style, and (3) there is interaction between teaching strategies and learning styles on the students’ achievement. Two classes containing of 70 students were chosen as sample by apllying cluster random sampling technique. The experimental group 1 was treated by using DR-TA and the experimental group 2 was treated by using KWL. The students’ achievement was measured by using test. The questionnaire was conducted to find out the students’ learning style. The data were analyzed by applying two-ways analysis of variance. The findings show that (1) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using DR-TA higher than using KWL; (2) students’ achievement in reading comprehension with impulsive learning style is lower than that with reflective learning style; (3) there is interaction between teaching strategies and learning styles on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The analysis revealed that the teaching strategies significantly affected the students’ reading achievement. The research objective was determined how the students learning after using Word Square Model on vocabulary mastery of students. A quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental research design was used in this work. 44 students studying English education made up the study's sample. SPSS used as the data analysis method. The findings of the paired sample T test indicated that there was a difference between the average student learning outcomes for the experimental class's pre-test and post-test, with the output of pair 1 yielding a value of sig. (2 tailed) of 0.000 0.05. Based on the output pair 2's value of sig. (2 tailed) of 0.000 0.05, it was determined that there was a difference between the control class's pre- and post-test averages for student learning outcomes. Based on the output pair 2's value of sig. (2 tailed) of 0.000 0.05, it was determined that there was a difference between the control class's pre- and post-test averages for student learning outcomes. The sig value was calculated using the Independent T test findings. It indicated that there is a difference between employing the Word Square Model and lectures in terms of the average student learning outcomes (2 tailed) of 0.000 0.05. The Word Square Model is better for students’ vocabulary mastery, as may be inferred from the previous description. Keywords: Word Square, Vocabulary, Learning Outcomes

AbstractThis study aims to provide an impact on students' writing skills through the Kumon method in class X SMK Nur Hasanah 2 Medan. The data obtained were analyzed by means of quantitative analysis to calculate the average value of each group using pre-test and post-test. The study consisted of 2 classes, in the sample the researcher chose class X-1 which consisted of 20 students as the experimental group and X-2 which consisted of 20 students as the control group. The total is 40 students. During this study, researchers have discovered the importance of which impact in classroom experiments using the Kumon method. Students have obtained good grades but in the control class students have obtained low grades. In this study, the results show that the average of the experimental group is better than the average of the control group. Mx = 16 while My = 12 where t (impact) = 1801. After the data is analyzed, it turns out that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The data can be concluded that the importance of students' abilities using the Kumon Method. In the teaching process, especially in writing skills.. Kata kunci: Writing Ability, Kumon Method.

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of using U-Dictionary application on students’ pronunciation mastery at the eleventh grade of SMK Negeri 1 Perbaungan. This research used quantitative method with quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was class XI sudents of SMK Negeri 1 Perbaungan. The researcher selected class XI TKJ 1 with 21 students as experimental group dan class XI TKJ 3 with 21 students as control group, randomly. In collecting data, the researcher used tests to determine students’ pronunciation mastery and were carried out twice, namely pre-test and post-test. Then, the data was analyzed by using a t-test. The results showed that ttest = 8.095 and ttable with df = 40 using a two-tailed test (2-tailed) with a significance of 5% = 2.021. It shows that ttest value was higher than ttable (8.095>2.021). In oher words, Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. On the other hand, the result of the evaluation of students’ pronunciation mastery showed that more students get predicate 4 (good) on vowel, diphthong and consonant sounds in experimental group. While in control group, more students get predicate 3 (average) and pedicate 2 (poor) on vowel, diphthong and consonant sounds. It can be concluded that using U-Dictionary application significantly affected on students’ pronunciation mastery at the eleventh grade of SMK Negeri 1 Perbaungan.

The teacher is an educator who has knowledge in educating that can create generations to be more able to think logically and insightfully. However, the responsibility of being a teacher is very heavy, because you have to be more competent in your professional field. Writing scientific articles is one of the skills that must be possessed by a teacher. Where, writing cannot be separated from a teacher. The purpose of this study was to see how the process of increasing writing creativity was carried out by the teachers of MIS Al-Marwa. This research was conducted during workshop activities using the Classroom Action Research method which was carried out in two cycles (cycle I and cycle II). The data was taken by observing the activities of the Al-Marwa MIS teachers in workshop activities or workshop learning models with the aim of evaluating the teacher's creative abilities in writing articles. The analysis was carried out during the activities of the scientific article writing training workshop conducted by the MIS Al-Marwa teacher. From the results of the analysis carried out, there has been an increase in teacher writing creativity and this proves that the workshop learning model can improve teachers' ability to write scientific articles, where this model is rarely used by researchers.
