Abstract

Background: Fiber is added to composite resin with the aim of increasing strength. The strength of composite resin is influenced by water absorption. Samia ricini silk fiber has semihydrophilic properties which can affect water absorption in FRC. One of the ways FRC water absorption is influenced by volumetric fraction. Objective: to determine the effect of the volumetric fraction of Samia ricini silk fiber ribbon in FRC on water absorption. Method: The materials used in this research were flowable composite resin and Samia ricini fiber. The samples were made into 3 groups with varying volumetric fractions of 0%, 25% and 50%, with each group having 6 samples. The sample was then weighed to an accuracy of 0.0001 g, then soaked in water for 7 days in an incubator. After 7 days, weighing was carried out again to calculate the weight percentage of water absorption in the FRC. The data obtained was then analyzed using One Way ANOVA. Results: This research show that water absorption has increased in line with the increase in volumetric fraction. The percentage of water absorption in the volumetric fractions of 0%, 25%, and 50% respectively is 0.5298 ± 0.1190%, 0.8430 ± 0.3191%, and 0.9382 ± 0.4215%. The results of the One Way ANOVA analysis show F = 2.798 with a significance of 0.093 so that the three volumetric fraction groups do not have significant differences. Conclusion: Volumetric fraction does not significantly influence the water absorption of composite resin during 7 days of immersion.

Abstract

Background: Saliva plays a crucial role in maintaining the pH balance of the mouth, preventing enamel demineralization and caries. While conventional mouthwashes are often used to stabilize pH, their chemical content can cause side effects such as irritation and dry mouth. Alternatively, fruits can be used to help maintain pH balance naturally. These fruits contain bioactive compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that support oral health. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of red grape infused water in stabilizing saliva pH. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest one-group design. The research was conducted on students at SMP Pattimura Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The sampling technique used proportional stratified sampling involving 60 students. The research instrument consisted of saliva pH measurement sheets and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: gargling with red grape infused water was effective in stabilizing saliva pH in the oral cavity, with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: gargling with red grape infused water is effective in stabilizing saliva pH in the oral cavity.

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health is an integral part of the overall health of the body. Dental and oral health problems in school children are often caused by bad habits due to lack of knowledge. Counseling is the process of conveying information and understanding that involves various efforts to encourage individuals to maintain dental and oral health. One of the efforts to increase knowledge through counseling is to use simple and interesting learning media such as word search puzzles because it has the potential to increase students' enthusiasm in participating in learning activities. Methods: The method of this research is Research and Development (R&D). The sample using the Random Sampling technique amounted to 58 students. The instruments in this study are Pre-test and Post-test questionnaires. Results: The word search puzzle media was successfully developed, it is known that the average validation results by material experts are 97.4% in the category Worthy of trial, validation by media experts is an average of 95.5% which is in the category Worthy of being tested and student validation of 90.0% is included in the category of feasible to be used in the learning process. The results of the study before being given counseling using word search puzzle learning media were 7 students (12.1%) with good criteria, 22 students (37.9%) with sufficient criteria and 29 students (50.0%) with poor criteria. Meanwhile, after being given counseling, there was an increase, namely 45 students (77.6%) with good criteria, 11 students (19.0%) with sufficient criteria, and 2 students (3.4%) with poor criteria. Conclusion: Students' knowledge increased after being given counseling using word search puzzle learning media.
