Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of speaking assessments in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook for Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) and reconstruct it into an authentic assessment instrument using a conversation video project approach. The research addresses a critical gap in the current textbook, which predominantly relies on rote memorization tasks and lacks systematic scoring rubrics, leading to subjective evaluation. The study employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. Data were collected from primary sources (the 9th-grade textbook) and secondary sources (Sukenti's authentic assessment theory). The analysis procedure involved diagnosing existing assessment items, benchmarking them against authentic standards, and reconstructing a new assessment model. The results reveal that the textbook lacks objective indicators and focuses on lower-order thinking skills. Consequently, this study reconstructs the assessment system by developing an integrative instrument comprising five authentic components: project tasks, performance rubrics, observation sheets, self-assessment, and portfolios. Subject matter experts theoretically validated this reconstructed model, serving as a methodological solution to enhance communicative competence assessment, reduce speaking anxiety, and align with the principles of the "Merdeka Curriculum" and "Profil Pelajar Pancasila."

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between the use of AI chatbots and students' enthusiasm for writing Arabic theses at UMMAT and UIN Mataram, as well as to compare the level of enthusiasm between students from the two institutions. The research employed a quantitative correlational and comparative approach, using a questionnaire as the primary instrument. Data were analysed using the product-moment correlation formula and an independent-samples t-test. The findings show a highly significant relationship between the use of AI chatbots and students' enthusiasm for writing Arabic theses at both universities. Linear regression analysis indicates a positive contribution, with a significance value of 0.000 and a beta coefficient of 0.912, suggesting that higher use of AI is associated with higher levels of enthusiasm. The t-test results reveal a significant difference between the two institutions (sig. 0.001), with UIN Mataram students demonstrating greater enthusiasm than those at UMMAT. These differences, while not part of the measured variables, may be interpreted as being influenced by contextual factors such as academic environment, facilities, institutional policies, and academic culture. In conclusion, the use of AI chatbots has a strong positive association with students' enthusiasm for thesis writing, and enthusiasm levels differ significantly between institutions, with contextual interpretations provided for the observed patterns.

Abstract

Evaluation is the process of giving a value to an object based on certain criteria. This study aims to analyze the quality of Arabic language skills test items at SD Islam MI Thoriqul Huda Malang and assess their suitability with the principles of compiling language skills test items. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Primary data sources include Arabic language skills test documents, while secondary data are in the form of interviews with teachers and other supporting documents. Data collection was carried out through documentation and interviews, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model (data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions). The results of the study showed that the test items used covered four main language skills, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The test items were presented in various forms such as multiple choice, essay questions, and performance. The questions were compiled by the teacher with reference to the learning objectives and student abilities, and using a question bank as a reference. Daily assessments were carried out separately for each skill, while summative assessments tended to combine all skills into one test that focused more on reading and writing. Judging from the assessment principles, the test items were generally valid and relevant; however, there were shortcomings in the evaluation of speaking and listening skills due to limited resources available. This study recommends refining evaluation tools, increasing the clarity of instructions, and aligning test formats to optimally measure all language skills.

Abstract

Mastery of Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam) remains difficult for senior madrasah students, particularly when Instruction relies heavily on conventional methods with limited interactive media. This study investigates the effectiveness of Discovery Learning supported by animated video media at MA Babussalam Payaraman. Employing a quantitative approach with a pretest–posttest control group design, data were collected through tests, questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and an independent sample t-test. Results show a substantial improvement in the experimental class, with scores increasing from 55% in the pretest to 84.56% in the posttest, while the control class rose only from 49.34% to 68.69%. Students taught with animated videos also demonstrated greater engagement, motivation, and confidence. The study concludes that Discovery Learning, combined with animated video media, effectively enhances Arabic speaking skills. Its primary contribution lies in proving that integrating process-oriented learning with dynamic visual media significantly boosts communicative competence and learner participation, offering a more impactful alternative to traditional Arabic language teaching.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in Indonesian secondary schools continues to face challenges, particularly low student engagement and limited communicative competence. Although collaborative learning strategies such as Small Group Discussion (SGD) have been widely discussed, empirical research on their application at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) level within a Classroom Action Research (CAR) context remains limited. This study addresses this specific research gap by examining the effectiveness of the SGD strategy in improving Arabic learning outcomes and student activeness among Grade 7A students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 3 Ngawi. The study employed a Classroom Action Research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets, achievement tests, and student questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques, including mean scores and percentage improvements, supported by qualitative analysis of classroom observations and reflective notes. The results show substantial improvement in both achievement and engagement. The average score increased from 76.3 in Cycle I to 93 in Cycle II, while student enthusiasm rose from 70.1% to 92%. These findings confirm that SGD effectively promotes interactive, student-centered Arabic learning and enhances both academic performance and classroom participation.
