Abstract

This article aims to formulate and test the integration of daʿwah values—ḥikmah (prudential wisdom), mauʿiẓah ḥasanah (ethical exhortation), and courteous dialogic engagement—into Arabic pedagogy to meet the demands of Society 5.0, thereby aligning linguistic competence with character formation and technological literacy. Adopting a design-based research approach across multiple cycles of design–implementation–reflection in university-level Arabic classes, the study combines task-based and project-based learning, micro-scale service-learning, reflective Arabic dialogues, and AI-mediated feedback. Data were gathered from classroom observations, student artifacts, pre/post assessments of communicative performance, and brief attitudinal surveys; analyses employed thematic coding and descriptive statistics to iteratively refine each cycle’s design. Findings indicate gains in communicative accuracy and pragmatic appropriateness, heightened learner engagement, and clearer transfer from classroom discourse to community-oriented action; lecturers reported stronger alignment between linguistic outcomes and character education, while students demonstrated more orderly and ethical argumentation in Arabic. The study concludes that a daʿwah-informed framework operationalizes Arabic as a vehicle for ethically grounded communication suited to the digital-human ecosystem of Society 5.0, offering replicable classroom routines and assessment rubrics for higher-education contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of comic-based media in enhancing Arabic language learning among fifth-grade students at MIN 3 Pringsewu. The findings reveal that comic media is an effective tool for improving students’ learning outcomes in Arabic. This is evidenced by the calculated N-Gain score, where the experimental class achieved an average of 61.43, categorized as moderate, while the control class obtained an average Gain Score of 16.49, categorized as low. These results indicate that the development of comic-based instructional media is effective for classroom implementation. Furthermore, the effectiveness of using comics is reflected in the improvement of students’ pretest and posttest scores. The pretest average score of students in the experimental class prior to using thematic comics was 57.87, which increased to 78.51 after implementation. In comparison, the control class scored 55.57 in the pretest and 61.92 in the posttest. The statistical analysis shows that the posttest data between the two groups yielded a t-value significance of 0.000, indicating a significant difference since Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05 and the t-value was positive, leading to the rejection of H0. All of these data substantiate the conclusion that comic-based media effectively enhances Arabic language learning for fifth-grade students at MIN 3 Pringsewu. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant positive impact of using comics as an instructional medium on students’ learning achievement in Arabic.

Abstract

This study investigates the predictive relationship between integrative motivation, global career perspectives, and Arabic literacy achievement among final-year university students. A quantitative research design was employed, involving a sample of 300 students from Arabic language programs across various Indonesian universities. Data were gathered using validated questionnaires to assess integrative motivation and global career perspectives, while Arabic literacy achievement was measured through a comprehensive proficiency test. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between integrative motivation and Arabic literacy achievement (r = 0.47, p < 0.01), indicating that students with higher integrative motivation exhibited stronger Arabic language skills. Furthermore, global career perspectives emerged as a significant predictor of literacy achievement (β = 0.35, p < 0.05), with students who viewed Arabic language skills as essential for global career opportunities demonstrating better performance. The study highlights the synergistic effect of integrative motivation and global career perspectives in predicting Arabic literacy outcomes, emphasizing the importance of aligning educational strategies with students' intrinsic and career-driven motivations. This research contributes to understanding the psychological and career-oriented factors that foster language proficiency, particularly in the context of Arabic literacy.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian cultural identity is negotiated in the Arabic subtitles of the film Habibi & Ainun. The study is grounded in the view that audiovisual translation is not merely a linguistic transfer but also a cultural mediation process in which national values, social norms, religious expressions, forms of address, and culturally embedded meanings are selectively retained, adapted, or reformulated for target audiences. Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study analyzes Indonesian cultural expressions in the film dialogue and compares them with their Arabic subtitle renderings. The data were categorized based on cultural references, terms of address, religious expressions, politeness markers, and socio-historical elements related to Indonesian identity. The analysis focuses on the translation strategies used by the subtitler and the extent to which these strategies preserve or modify the cultural meanings of the source text. The findings indicate that Indonesian cultural identity is negotiated through a combination of retention, cultural adaptation, simplification, and semantic modulation. While some expressions are preserved to maintain Indonesian cultural specificity, others are adjusted to ensure readability, acceptability, and cultural resonance for Arabic-speaking audiences. The study highlights the role of subtitles as a site of intercultural negotiation, where the visibility of Indonesian identity is balanced with the communicative needs of the target audience. This study contributes to audiovisual translation studies by showing how Arabic subtitles can function as a medium for representing, reshaping, and transmitting Indonesian cultural identity in transnational film circulation.

Abstract

This study investigates the English learning needs of vocational high school students to inform workplace-relevant English instruction. A descriptive needs analysis design was employed, involving 75 Grade X students from the Office Management and Business Services (MPLB) program at an Indonesian vocational high school. Data were collected using a 25-item structured questionnaire measuring five dimensions: the importance of English skills, needs for improvement, workplace communication competencies, preferred learning activities, and learning expectations, supplemented by semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis were applied. The findings reveal strong student agreement (mean > 4.0 on a 5-point scale) on the importance of English for future careers, with speaking and listening identified as the most critical workplace skills. Students strongly prefer interactive activities such as role plays, simulations, group discussions, and project-based learning over traditional grammar exercises. The novelty lies in the comprehensive 25-item needs analysis instrument specifically designed for the MPLB program, offering fresh empirical insights beyond general English curricula. Practically, English teachers and curriculum developers should integrate vocationally relevant, interactive tasks into instruction to bridge classroom learning and workplace demands. The study contributes to the English for Vocational Purposes (EVP) literature by providing a validated needs-analysis framework that demonstrates how learner-centered data can directly guide instructional design aligned with real-world communication requirements.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Pancasila Education in fostering democratic citizenship and strengthening social cohesion in Indonesia. The background to this research stems from increasing socio-political challenges, such as polarization, intolerance, low civic participation, and weakening national solidarity in a pluralistic society. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library study method, through a critical review of academic literature, educational policies, and key concepts regarding democracy, citizenship, and Pancasila values. The results of the study indicate that Pancasila Education has a strategic function in instilling the values of divinity, humanity, unity, deliberation, and social justice as an ethical foundation for democratic life. Pancasila Education plays a role not only in the transfer of ideological knowledge, but also in the formation of critical, tolerant, participatory, and responsible attitudes as citizens. In addition, the internalization of Pancasila values can strengthen social cohesion through respect for diversity, deliberative conflict resolution, and the strengthening of an inclusive national identity. However, the effectiveness of Pancasila Education depends heavily on a contextual, dialogical, and participatory learning approach, not simply normative memorization. This study concludes that Pancasila Education is a crucial instrument in building substantive democracy and maintaining social integration in Indonesia. Therefore, strengthening the curriculum, educator competencies, and experiential civic learning practices are urgently needed in the development of Pancasila Education.
