Abstract

This study examines the role of TikTok's algorithm in shaping global music trends and song virality through a qualitative approach. TikTok uses a machine learning-based recommendation system that analyzes user interactions, such as watch time and social participation, to promote content. The research finds that TikTok’s algorithm not only curates but also predicts the potential virality of songs, particularly popular music genres like pop and hip-hop. Additionally, geographic bias was identified, with artists from the United States and Europe having a higher likelihood of going viral compared to artists from other regions. While TikTok provides opportunities for independent musicians, the sustainability of viral song popularity remains a challenge. These findings highlight significant shifts in music promotion strategies, with the algorithm becoming a key element in the modern music ecosystem. The study suggests the need for continuous adaptation by artists and industry players in the digital era.

Abstract

This study analyzes the concept of wiku in Kidung Cowak, a Balinese Hindu religious text that emphasizes the spiritual balance between sekala (material world) and niskala (spiritual world). In the Hindu traditions of Bali and Lombok, a wiku not only acts as a ritual leader, but also as a spiritual guide who directs people on the path of purity. This study uses a philological approach to inventory, translate and interpret the original manuscripts, as well as a hermeneutic approach to explore the symbolic meaning and relevance of Kidung Cowak's teachings in a modern context. The research findings show that Kidung Cowak views kewikuan as an ideal form of spiritual attainment, achieved through self-control, the practice of upawasa (fasting), yogic discipline, and a deep understanding of religious teachings or putusing aji. The text also provides guidance in choosing the right guru and criticizes wiku who focus on superficial aspects. The symbols in Kidung Cowak reveal a spiritual journey that demands harmony between social life and the ultimate spiritual goal of moksa. This study underscores the relevance of Kidung Cowak as a guide for wiku to achieve wisdom and inner peace amidst the challenges of modernization and globalization.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of art activities, specifically pasting and cutting, to stimulate cognitive development in early childhood at TK Dwijendra Mataram. A qualitative case study design was employed, incorporating observations, interviews with teachers and parents, and an analysis of supporting documents. Findings indicate that pasting and cutting activities have a significant impact on children’s cognitive development, particularly in terms of focus, decision-making, and basic analytical skills. These activities also promote fine motor skills, such as hand-eye coordination and hand muscle strength, essential for future writing readiness. However, challenges were identified regarding children's technical skills and parental perceptions of safety related to scissor use. Recommendations include enhancing material variety and fostering teacher-parent collaboration to support children’s skills holistically. These findings underscore the importance of simple art activities in advancing the cognitive and socio-emotional development of young children, especially within an exploratory learning context.

Abstract

This research aims to identify effective steps in optimising cultural arts learning planning at SMK Negeri 5 Mataram and the challenges faced by teachers in its implementation. Through a qualitative approach with a case study design, data was obtained through observation, structured interviews, and documentation. The results show that the preparation of lesson plans that are relevant to the characteristics of students is an important first step, but still lacks attention to differentiation of learning for students with low interest in cultural arts. The discovery learning method, although effective in increasing student engagement, faces challenges related to the limited availability of facilities and infrastructure. In addition, the constraints of students who feel they have the wrong major are the main obstacles in achieving learning objectives. Therefore, optimising lesson planning requires a more flexible and collaborative approach between teachers, students and school authorities. This research contributes to the development of a more innovative and effective cultural arts lesson planning model, by prioritising differentiation and the utilisation of technology and more varied media.

Abstract

Body painting has emerged as an intriguing phenomenon in contemporary art and tourism, combining elements of visual art, attractiveness, and performance. This research investigates integrating these elements into a single piece of art and its influence on the tourism industry, model empowerment, and body commodification, with a particular emphasis on Bali. The qualitative research methodology involves in-depth interviews and observations of artists, models, and audiences in the context of body painting performances. The study results demonstrate that body painting is a visual art form and a performance activity that directly engages the audience. The fact that models may use their bodies as a means of artistic expression gives them a sense of empowerment.Furthermore, even though body painting retains its artistic significance, it is considered a commodity in Bali's tourism sector. This research enhances the comprehensive understanding of body painting, presents novel concepts regarding the interplay between art, performance, and economy, and paves the way for additional investigation into body art within a worldwide social and cultural framework. In conclusion, body painting is a multifaceted art form that enhances both the realm of visual arts and the domain of body art.

Abstract

Arts education has been recognized as a tool for developing creativity. Still, in recent years, a growing body of research has demonstrated the potential of the arts in supporting students' mental health. This study aimed to explore the effect of arts activities on students' mental health at a high school in Denpasar City, focusing on reducing stress and improving students' emotional well-being. The method used was a quantitative approach with an experimental design, where 50 students involved in arts activities had their stress levels measured before and after participation in fine arts, music, and dance activities. The paired t-test results showed a significant decrease in students' stress levels, with a p-value <0.05. This decrease suggests that arts activities reduce stress and improve students' emotional well-being. This study contributes to developing a more inclusive arts education curriculum, which emphasizes developing creative skills and integrating psychological aspects to support students' mental health. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of incorporating arts activities in the curriculum to support students' emotional well-being in the school environment.
