Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between teachers' teaching styles and students' learning motivation in English learning. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Afulu in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employed a quantitative research approach with a survey design to examine the relationship between teachers' teaching styles and students' learning motivation in English learning. A quantitative approach was chosen because the data were obtained in numerical form through questionnaires and aimed to examine the relationship between variables using statistical procedures. The study population was all 112 eighth-grade students, while the study sample consisted of one eighth-grade class with 28 students and was selected using a cluster sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 25 items to measure teachers' teaching styles and 25 items to measure students' English learning motivation using a four-level Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 25 and Microsoft Excel. Inferential analysis used rank-order correlation (Spearman) to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study showed a strong positive relationship between teacher teaching style and student learning motivation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.886 and a significance level of 0.000. This finding indicates that students who have a positive perception of their teacher's teaching style tend to demonstrate higher English learning motivation. Therefore, it can be concluded that teacher teaching style is closely related to student learning motivation in English learning.

Abstract

Mysticism is a teaching or belief that states the existence of a supreme reality that cannot be reached by human reason and can only be obtained through direct spiritual experience. This research was conducted by describing: 1) the existence of mysticism in the short story collection Hilang dalam Emkapan Semeru by RJL5-Fajar Aditya; 2) the motif of mysticism in the short story collection Hilang dalam Emkapan Semeru by RJL5-Fajar Aditya. This research uses the study of mysticism by Niels Mulder. The type of research used is qualitative with descriptive analysis method. The data of this research are in the form of quotes, sentences, and paragraphs that describe the existence and motif of mysticism. The data source is the short story collection Hilang dalam Emkapan Semeru by RJL 5-Fajar Aditya. The research data were collected and analyzed by reading, identifying, classifying data, recording, coding using observation guide sheets involving time triangulation. The results of the study show: 1) the existence of mysticism is divided into three aspects, namely material existence (sacred media such as objects considered to have mystical powers), spiritual existence (outward and inner mystical core as the starting point and goal), and moral existence (respect for the hierarchy of norms for noble harmony); 2) the motive of mysticism as a personal desire for worldly satisfaction, is divided into positive motives (good intentions, religious such as salvation or healing), and egoistic motives (black magic, pesugihan, mystical rituals, which are contrary to divine will. Overall, the short story Lost in Semeru's Embrace by RJL 5-Fajar Aditya not only represents mystical phenomena in climbing, but also contains moral messages about courage, solidarity, and respect for nature.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Bahlil Lahadalia's politeness strategies, expressive speech acts, perlocutionary effects, and affective color responses in the Bukan Abuleke Podcast upload. Using a qualitative pragmatic approach, data were collected through listening and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using Brown and Levinson's taxonomy of politeness strategies and Searle's speech act theory. The results of the study revealed the dominance of Positive Politeness strategies (10 data) compared to Negative politeness, which reflects the speaker's intentional efforts to minimize social distance and build emotional closeness with the audience. Expressive acts were significantly dominated by the Praise category (8 data), which functioned as an instrument for building credibility through a narrative of personal resilience. The communication patterns found tended to be Direct and Literal (11 data), which effectively produced very strong Positive Responsive Verbal Nonverbal perlocutions (10 data). Affectively, the use of Humor (6 data) emerged as the main rhetorical instrument to defuse tension and respond to criticism diplomatically. The research conclusions indicate that Bahlil Lahadalia employs an adaptive communication style that integrates personal transparency with professional authority. This strategy successfully creates the image of a humanistic, inclusive, yet firm leader in disseminating state policies in the digital public sphere. These findings contribute to linguistic studies of public officials' rhetoric in new media formats.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) prosedur input data keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik ke sheet SPSS; 2) prosedur uji normalitas data keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik; 3) prosedur uji homogenitas variansi data keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik; 4) prosedur uji t satu sampel data keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik; 5) prosedur uji one-way ANOVA data keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 107 siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru yang mengikuti tes keterampilan menemukan unsur intrinsik cerpen profetik. Sampel ditarik secara random sebanyak 85 siswa. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan uji t satu sampel dan uji one-way Anova. Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of patriarchy in Sasti Gotama’s novel “Corpus Uterus” thru the perspective of Kate Millett’s radical feminism. This research was conducted on novel texts as the object of study, with the research period from October to December 2025. The research data consists of narrative quotes, dialog, and character descriptions that represent patriarchal practices in the lives of the female characters. Data collection was carried out using the read and note technique with intensive text reading. Data analysis was performed using a descriptive qualitative approach thru intensive reading, data grouping, and interpretation of meaning based on Kate Millett’s radical feminist framework. The research findings indicate that patriarchy in the novel is represented thru eight aspects: biological, ideological, sociological, class, economic and educational, coercion, myths and religion, and psychological. Patriarchy systematically works to limit women’s bodies, social roles, and the autonomy of female figures thru unequal power relations. Some of the female characters in this novel, particularly Kalimah, experience role limitations, violence, and psychological pressure as a result of the patriarchal system deeply rooted in social and cultural structures. This finding shows that women’s personal experiences in the novel are not separate from the patriarchal power structure that places women in a subordinate position. Thus, the novel Corpus Uterus represents patriarchy as a deeply rooted system that has a direct impact on women’s lives and experiences.

Abstract

Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) is a reading comprehension teaching strategy that combines cognitive strategies with small group cooperative learning to help students improve reading comprehension and vocabulary through four main strategies: preview, click and clunk, get the gist, and wrap up. This study aims to describe: 1) biographical text writing skills in learning without using CSR; 2) biographical text writing skills in learning using CSR; 3) the effect of CSR on biographical text writing skills. This study used a posttest only control group design. The study population was all students of class XE1 and XE2 of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Mutiara in the 2025/2026 academic year who participated in learning in both the control and treatment classes. They numbered 72 students. The research sample was determined to be 35 students from each population group. Data on biographical text writing skills were collected using a performance test that was compiled objectively and systematically. The results of the requirement test showed that the data on biographical text writing skills were not normally distributed. Therefore, the data of biographical text writing skills were analyzed using a one-sample chi-square nonparametric inferential statistical procedure instead of a one-sample t-test. The data of the influence of CSR on biographical text writing skills were analyzed using a nonparametric inferential statistic, namely the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study: 1) the mean post-test of biographical text writing skills of the control class was sufficiently qualified; 2) the mean post-test of biographical text writing skills of the experimental class was well qualified; 3) CSR has an influence on learning biographical text writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of personal deixis usage, analyze their appropriateness in speech context, and explain the phenomenon within a pragmatic framework. The research was conducted virtually on Instagram, particularly on the @verenaindha account, with data collected progressively from earlier to recent posts representing the child’s developmental stages. The population consisted of all child utterances in Reels content, while the sample included utterances produced by a child named Nala aged 22 months to approximately 5 years that contain personal deixis elements. The research instrument was the researcher supported by documentation and transcription techniques. Data were analyzed using an interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing within a pragmatic approach. The results indicate that personal deixis usage develops gradually from non-deictic forms to more complex and contextually appropriate deictic forms. At the early stage, the child used proper names to refer to herself instead of first-person pronouns. This was followed by the use of kinship terms before eventually acquiring pronouns such as “I,” “you,” “he/she,” and “we.” This progression reflects the development of pragmatic competence, although inconsistencies still occur in certain situations. Furthermore, a distinction was found between linguistic accuracy and sociopragmatic appropriateness, particularly in the use of “I–you” forms toward parents. Overall, the development of personal deixis is influenced by cognitive factors and social environment.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of subordination, stereotypes, and violence experienced by female characters in the film “Sehidup Semati” and explain how the relationship between the narrative in the film “Sehidup Semati” with social reality related to the position of women in society. This research was conducted on the film “Sehidup Semati” by Upi Avianto which was released in 2024. The population in this study are scenes, dialogues, and narratives in the film “Sehidup Semati”, while the sample in this study is scenes, dialogues, and narratives that represent gender inequality experienced by female characters in the film “Sehidup Semati”. The research instrument in this study is the researcher himself who watched, understood, and analyzed the film “Sehidup Semati”. The data collection technique in this study uses documentation techniques. The data analysis tool in this study is using the theory of gender inequality by Mansour Fakih who views gender inequality as arising from society’s mistaken perspective regarding the concept of gender itself. The results of the study found six forms of gender inequality experienced by the female character Renata in the film “Sehidup Semati” namely subordination, stereotypes, and violence. This includes two data on subordination, two data on stereotypes, and two data on violence.

Abstract

This study examines the values of politeness and courtesy in the Mamongkot Rumah Bayu traditional ceremony of the Batak Simalungun community in North Sumatra. This ceremony is held as an expression of gratitude and a request for blessings from God when someone moves into a new house. This tradition not only has spiritual significance but is also imbued with social and moral norms that guide community behavior. This study used a qualitative approach with a normative-descriptive method, conducted through observation, interviews with traditional leaders, and literature review to understand the symbolic meaning and function of traditional values in social life. The results show that politeness is reflected in polite speech, modest dress, and respect for traditional elders. Politeness is seen as a behavioral guideline that maintains social harmony and demonstrates respect for others. Meanwhile, politeness is evident in the form of mutual cooperation, caring, and the provision of food or ulos (traditional clothing) to guests as a symbol of love and blessings. These values not only serve to strengthen social relationships but also serve as a form of spiritual devotion to God and ancestors. The Mamongkot Rumah Bayu ceremony plays a crucial role as a character education tool, instilling values of respect, empathy, and solidarity in the younger generation. Amidst the tide of modernization, the values of politeness and courtesy remain relevant as a moral foundation for building an ethical, harmonious, and civilized society.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to analyze the listening comprehension materials and exercise types for A1-level French language learning on the francaisfacile.rfi.fr website; 2) to assess the alignment of the materials and exercise types with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standards for listening comprehension skills at A1 level; and 3) to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the listening materials and exercise types on the website as a learning medium. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data were obtained through literature review and documentation analysis, conducted online via the francaisfacile.rfi.fr website during the period of October-Desember 2025. The research population includes all A1-level French listening comprehension materials and exercises on the francaisfacile.rfi.fr website. Purposive sampling was used, focusing on A1-level listening materials and exercises. The research instruments consist of material analysis tables based on Bérard’s theory, a CEFR-based material alignment table adapted from Chauvet et al.’s theory, and an exercise types classification table based on Tagliante’s theory. The results show that the A1-level listening materials are divided into three main themes, namely Comprendre l’actualité en français, Réviser les points de langue, and Communiquer au quotidien. The exercise types were varied but predominantly consisted of single-correct-answer multiple-choice questions. The materials and exercises meet the CEFR level A1 standards. The website’s strengths lie in its comprehensive materials and authentic audio resources. However, it has limitations in terms of exercise variety, as well as the absence of communicative elements and teacher involvement. Therefore, the francaisfacile.rfi.fr website is considered suitable as a supplementary learning medium for A1-level French listening skills.
