Abstract

This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical (field research) approach aimed at examining the practice of selecting a prospective husband through a lottery mechanism to solve cases of out-of-wedlock pregnancy, viewed from the perspective of structural functionalism. The primary focus of this study is the social phenomenon occurring in the community of Purwosari Village, Babadan Sub-district, Ponorogo Regency, where a lottery marriage is conducted to determine which man must marry a pregnant woman when the actual father is unknown. The data were obtained through direct field observations, in-depth interviews with community figures, and documentation studies. The primary data sources include local community members, victims, family members, religious leaders, and village officials. Data collection methods comprised participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed qualitatively using Talcott Parsons’ structural functionalism theory, particularly the four AGIL schemes (adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and latency), along with Peter L. Berger’s theory of social construction through the stages of externalization, objectification, and internalization. The results show two main findings: (1) The lottery marriage practice due to out-of-wedlock pregnancy is perceived by some community members as a pragmatic solution, despite contradicting religious norms and legal standards that only permit marriage with the actual biological father; (2) Although considered a temporary solution, this practice raises negative social implications such as normalizing premarital sexual behavior and creating instability in family structures. In conclusion, lottery marriage is a form of social adaptation to urgent situations, yet it cannot serve as a long-term solution due to its moral and legal contradictions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand the concept of family resilience in couples who do not yet have children in Balerejo Village, Kebonsari District, Madiun Regency. Family resilience is essential to study because even though they have not been blessed with children, these couples can still maintain the integrity and harmony of their household. This study is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four couples who experienced the absence of children in their married life. Data analysis techniques were carried out thematically to find patterns of meaning that shape family resilience. The study results show that family resilience is formed through several essential aspects: open communication, emotional support between couples, involvement in religious activities, and utilization of social resources in the surrounding environment. In addition, couples also demonstrate the ability to manage psychological stress, develop survival strategies, and maintain hope for having children. The strength of interpersonal relationships, spirituality, and adaptation to reality influences the success of couples in preserving family integrity even without children. These findings provide important insights into family survival strategies and resilience, which can be used to strengthen social and psychological interventions for couples in similar situations.

Abstract

Sharia Commercial Bank is a financial institution based on Islamic principles. Mainly, measuring banking performance uses financial ratios, including financial performance in Sharia banking. For this reason, an analysis is needed to measure the level of Sharia compliance without ignoring profitability gains. The Sharia Conformity and Profitability (SCnP) model is an analytical method used to measure the performance of Islamic Banks, and it is suitable and relevant. Sharia conformity aims to evaluate the extent of Sharia banking activities. The quantitative research uses secondary data to examine eight Islamic commercial banks listed by OJK in Indonesia from 2019 to 2023. The collection technique uses documentation from the annual report of Sharia commercial bank, a statistical report obtained from the bank's official website. The data analysis technique uses the SCnP model, which Kuppusamy initiated. Sharia conformity is measured using Sharia Investment, Income, and Profit Sharing Ratio. Meanwhile, measuring profitability uses ROA, ROE, and NPM indicators. The research results show that Sharia Commercial Banks' performance is measured using the SCnP model and divided into four quadrants. The results obtained show that Bank BCAS and BNTBS occupy the Upper Right Quadrant position; Bank BSI, BJBS, and BRKS occupy the upper left quadrant position; BPDS Bank occupies the Lower Right Quadrant position; and Bank BMI and BSB occupy the Lower Left Quadrant position. Future researchers are advised to develop research on assessing the financial performance of Islamic banks using the latest research methods, such as measuring the Banking Islamicity Index, the Maqashid Syariah Index, and the real sector financial performance Index.

Abstract

The phenomenon of career women undergoing the waiting period (‘iddah) after the death of a spouse raises legal and social challenges, particularly regarding the implementation of Islamic rules amid professional responsibilities. This study analyzes the practice of ‘iddah among female teachers at MTs YP. KH. Syamsuddin Duri Sawo and to evaluate the school's leave policy through the lens of maṣlaḥah and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This is qualitative research using a case study approach. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, the principal, and foundation officials, while secondary data came from institutional policy documents and Islamic legal literature. Data collection methods included interviews, observation, and documentation, with data analyzed interactively through reduction, presentation, and conclusion-drawing stages. The results show that the implementation of ‘iddah among the teachers does not fully comply with classical fiqh rules, particularly regarding leaving the house, adorning oneself, and the duration of ‘iddah, yet is practiced within socially and professionally accepted boundaries. The 40-day leave policy the school applies is not ideal in normative terms, but it contains significant benefits in protecting life, intellect, and wealth. In conclusion, the observed practice of ‘iddah can be justified Islamically through the concepts of maṣlaḥah mursalah and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, reflecting the flexibility of Islamic law in responding to the realities faced by modern career women.

Abstract

This study examines integrating green economy principles with Maqashid syariah (Islamic law's higher objectives) as a sustainable development framework in Indonesia. Using qualitative library research and content analysis methods, the research explores how Islamic economic concepts such as khalifah (stewardship), mizan (balance), and prohibition of israf (wastefulness) align with contemporary green economy approaches. The findings reveal that Maqashid syariah's five essential protections (religion, life, intellect, progeny, and wealth) provide a comprehensive ethical foundation for sustainable development that complements the United Nations' green economy model. The study highlights Indonesia's initiatives in green Islamic finance, particularly green sukuk, while identifying implementation challenges, including policy gaps and limited public awareness. The research contributes to Islamic economics literature by proposing an integrative model that combines environmental sustainability with Islamic values, offering practical recommendations for policymakers and Islamic financial institutions to advance sustainable development goals.

Abstract

This study examines in depth the economic philosophy of Musa Asy’arie, as formulated in the Islamic Economic Trilogy, comprising Economic Theology, Economic Cosmology, and Economic Anthropology. These ideas provide an ethical framework for modern economic practices by integrating divine values, cosmological balance, and a human-centered understanding. The purpose of this research is to explain the concept of Musa Asy’arie’s Islamic Economic Trilogy and assess its relevance to contemporary economic dynamics. This study employs library research with a qualitative method, based on textual data from books, scientific articles, and primary documents authored by Musa Asy’arie. Data were collected through a literature review and analyzed using content analysis with a deductive approach and a sociological perspective that positions humans as social beings within economic practice. The findings demonstrate that Musa Asy’arie’s Islamic Economic Trilogy makes a significant contribution to the development of economic ethics, providing a moral orientation for business activities, entrepreneurship, and growth. The concept emphasizes the importance of integrating tawhid values, cosmological balance, and anthropological understanding to build an economic system that is just, sustainable, and civilized. The study concludes that Musa Asy’arie’s economic thought remains highly relevant for further development and application in modern economic contexts, both as a theoretical foundation and as practical guidance for shaping ethical economic behavior.

Abstract

Sharia-based Savings and Loan Cooperatives (KSPPS) face significant challenges in maintaining institutional sustainability, making internal public relations strategies essential for strengthening employee loyalty. This study aims to analyze the role of religiosity as an internal public relations strategy in fostering employee loyalty at KSPPS Tunas Arta Mandiri Syariah KC Magetan. This research employs a qualitative approach and a case study method in its field research. Primary data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with leaders and employees at the research site, while secondary data were obtained from institutional documents. Data were gathered using participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data analysis procedures consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that religiosity, integrated into the organizational culture through routine activities such as Yasin recitation, sholawatan, morning prayers, daily evaluations, and social programs, positively influences employee motivation, internal communication quality, and sense of belonging. The application of the core values of tauhid, amanah, and manfaat as the foundation of the work culture further strengthens employees’ emotional attachment to the institution. This study concludes that consistently applied religiosity within internal public relations strategies not only enhances work quality but also serves as a key factor in building employee loyalty, thereby supporting the sustainability of KSPPS.

Abstract

The Bubakan tradition is one of the ceremonial sequences in Javanese wedding rituals, rich in symbolic elements and philosophical meaning, particularly as a form of purification and preparation intended to open the life path of the bride and groom so they may avoid obstacles and receive blessings. This study aims to uncover the symbolic meanings embedded in each element of the Bubakan tradition and to understand its role in reinforcing the social, spiritual, and cultural values of Javanese society. This research is a field study employing a qualitative–ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, ritual practitioners, and community members involved in the ceremony. The study was conducted within Javanese communities that continue to preserve the Bubakan tradition. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical techniques with an inductive reasoning pattern and verification. The analysis adopts Clifford Geertz’s anthropological perspective, which views culture as a system of meanings expressed through symbols. The findings show that each element of the Bubakan tradition—such as the tumpeng, white cloth, offerings, and ritual movements—possesses profound symbolic significance representing blessings, hopes for a harmonious new life, purity of intention, and familial unity. The tradition also reflects Javanese cultural philosophy, emphasizing balance, harmony, and spirituality. The study concludes that the Bubakan tradition is not merely a ceremonial ritual but a symbolic representation of Javanese cultural values that continue to endure and remain meaningful within contemporary artistic practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the theoretical and juridical foundations of marriage registration by examining the relevance of the concept of maslahah mursalah within the framework of the national legal system. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a library research method to collect data from primary and secondary legal sources, including the Qur’an, Hadith, ushul fiqh texts, statutory regulations, and previous studies. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically by examining the compatibility of the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah principles in the context of marriage registration. The findings show that marriage registration can be justified syar‘i-ly because it brings public benefit (maslahah), prevents social harm (mafsadah), and strengthens legal protection for husbands, wives, and children. Furthermore, registration functions as an instrument of harmonization between Islamic law and Indonesia’s positive law. The study concludes that marriage registration represents an actualization of maslahah mursalah values in contemporary Islamic law, aligning with the objectives of sharī‘ah and the needs of modern society.
