The Journal of Indonesian Tourism and Policy Studies (JITPS) covers tourism studies, recreation studies and policies related to their development in Indonesia. The expected research can also include studies on Indonesian tourism related to social, cultural, economic, political, management, health, environmental, technology, policy, etc. issues. The aim is to achieve the objectives of the Indonesian Journal of Tourism and Policy Studies, namely as a portal and instrument for the development of tourism science in Indonesia from various aspects and perspectives. Therefore, not only as paper-based-field-research, this journal will become a portal for tourism implementation studies and related literature reviews.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the transformation of the village of Oro-oro Ombo from agriculture into modern tourism area. Oro-oro Ombo is one of the villages in Batu City which is undergoing rapid growth in tourism due to its accessibility to the various artificial parks. This study wants to understand the Oro-oro Ombo village after 2008, the year when the Batu Night Spectacular Began to be built on the communal land of Oro-oro Ombo. Previously, Oro-oro Ombo is an area of agriculture with the production of rice, corn, and fruits. At that time, Oro-oro Ombo is a quiet area with minimal highway lighting. However, since the construction of Batu Night Spectacular, this area changed drastically into a very crowded area. The crowd of Batu Night Spectacular encouraged the community of Oro-oro Ombo to construct tourism-based business, like lodge and food stall. In a period of 6 years, two hotels and 93 homestays have been established in the village. This amount does not include food stalls, shops trading business, and a restaurant. Most of the businesses owned by the community, to respond to the development of tourism, is built on agricultural land. In the end, the development of tourism changes people's livelihood from agriculture become tourism entrepreneurs. Even though start from a village scale, this study is expected to be a reflection of transformation all around Batu City from an agricultural town into a city of tourism. The study was conducted for six months in July until December 2015. The data collection methods for this research are observation, interview, and literature study.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the implementation of the concept of applying 'Indonesian Jamu Ritual' as a Club Lounge attraction at The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place. The concept is based on the use of traditional Indonesian herbal concoctions that have been used for centuries for health and beauty purposes. The research method used is a qualitative - descriptive approach using data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the use of the 'Indonesian Jamu Ritual' concept at the Club Lounge The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place can increase hotel guest satisfaction and provide an authentic and unique experience. The implementation of the concept is carried out by providing various types of herbs and traditional Indonesian herbal concoctions. The traditional music presented makes visitors feel like they are in the place where the herbal medicine comes from, which increases the authenticity and atmosphere of consuming herbal medicine. The recommendation from this research is for The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place to continue to improve the implementation of the 'Indonesian Jamu Ritual' concept by adding a variety of herbs and other traditional Indonesian herbal concoctions, as well as improving the quality of service and guest experience by integrating broader elements of Indonesian culture.

Abstract

In an event activity, cooperation from external parties, especially sponsors are needed. Therefore, as an organizer of an event, good handling and service to external parties must be maximized so that client satisfaction and sustainable cooperation are created. This study aims to find out the procedures and strategies used by the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show sponsorship team in dealing with clients and making cooperation with these clients sustainable. This study uses descriptive qualitative research method with data collection by interview, observation, and literature study. The result was that the procedures carried out by the Indonesia International Motor Show 2023 sponsorship team could help the sponsor team achieve excellent service and the strategies that had been implemented to maintain sustainable cooperation were effective. Abstract

Purchasing and Receiving are two of the many divisions in the finance department, which are the main doors for procuring goods at hotels. These two divisions must ensure that the products ordered and received are high quality and comply with operational standards to create customer satisfaction. This study aims to provide an overview of the processes carried out by the purchasing and receiving divisions in the procurement of goods at the JHL Solitaire Hotel. The research method used is qualitative. The technique gets direct observations at the JHL Solitaire Hotel, interviews, and literature studies. The results of this study are that the purchasing division is fully responsible for procuring goods by connecting users with vendors according to the information in the Purchase Order (PO). Furthermore, the receiving division is responsible for receiving and storing goods. In this case, the receiving division will receive the goods and check the conformity of the goods according to the PO, then distribute the goods to the relevant department or storekeeper. If the goods are not taken immediately, the storekeeper will store the goods in the warehouse using the First In First Out (FIFO) system so that the quality of the goods is maintained. Accuracy in supervision and good coordination between the three sections will minimize the occurrence of errors in the operational function of the hotel. Future researchers are advised to be able to conduct research with valid data regarding the effectiveness of purchasing and receiving procuring goods at JHL Solitaire Hotel.

Abstract

Smart tourism is a rapidly emerging field that combines innovative technologies and tourism practices to enhance the overall travel experience. This journal article investigates the integration of cryptocurrency based on fuzzy logic in the context of smart tourism. The study aims to explore the potential benefits and challenges associated with using cryptocurrency as a payment method and decision-making tool in the tourism industry. By applying fuzzy logic principles, this research examines how cryptocurrency can enhance transaction security, improve financial transparency, and facilitate personalized travel recommendations. The study analyzes the implications of incorporating cryptocurrency based on fuzzy logic in smart tourism, including its impact on transaction efficiency, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. The findings of this study indicate that integrating cryptocurrency based on fuzzy logic has the potential to revolutionize the tourism industry by providing efficient and secure transactions, enabling personalized and tailored travel experiences, and promoting sustainable tourism practices. The results contribute to the existing body of knowledge on smart tourism and offer insights into the practical implications and future directions for implementing cryptocurrency in the tourism sector. This research provides valuable insights for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers interested in the applications of cryptocurrency in the tourism domain. The study also highlights the need for further exploration and testing of this technology in real-world tourism scenarios to fully understand its potential benefits and address any associated challenges. Abstract

Pari islanders have revamped their island into cultural ecotourism destination since 2010. It has been successful because the activities have diverted the islanders’ dependence on the hard-pressed local coastal and fisheries resources and supplemented their income. This is a win-win situation the Indonesian government seeks to create with the 2007 Coastal Zone and Small Islands Management Law where natural conservation benefits local populace economically. The Law stipulates, among others, that community participation is one of the integrated coastal zone management principles. The Law also prioritizes coastal zones for conservation and tourism activities. Pari islanders thus have already implemented the imperatives of the 2007 Coastal Zone and Small Islands Management Law. However, in 2015 PT. Bumi Pari Asri (PT. BPA), a real estate development company, claimed to possess the ownership and building right certificates of 90 percent of land in Pari Island and intends to build luxurious resort there. Since then, tensions, even open conflicts, erupted between the company and Pari islanders. In 2017 several Pari islanders were apprehended by the Police due to criminal allegations of extortion, land grabbing, and trespassing. In fact, three islanders have been detained for 6 months and allegedly tortured in the detention. The islanders suspected that these cases are related to their conflicts with PT. BPA. This article basically argues that the criminal indictments against Pari islanders constitute criminalization of community-based ecotourism (CBET) which ironically is encouraged and protected, among others, by the government policy i.e., the 2007 Coastal Zone and Small Islands Management Law. To support the argument, the article exposes, clarifies, and analyzes the development of cultural and ecotourism in Pari Island, Indonesian policies on CBET in coastal zone and small islands, and the criminal cases involving the proponents and managers of CBET in Pari Island.

Abstract

Abstract. Batik art has been confirmed as cultural intangible from Indonesia by UNESCO. The art of batik contains many values that are characteristic of the Indonesian people because batik is an identity, explanation of social strata, cultural language, human spirituality, technological discoveries, and the journey of an Indonesian civilization. In its journey, the existence of batik art has been quite affected by the onslaught of foreign culture flowing in the swift globalization. The Indonesian people should have taken a stand to maintain and preserve the art and culture of batik. This encourages artists to take part in the preservation and development of batik art. One of them is by utilizing the art of batik by exploring the leadership values that exist in the art of batik to increase the competence of human resources. This study aims to explore the preservation and development of batik art and examine the values of leadership in batik art. This study uses a qualitative methodology. The results of the research show that batik art can be used as leadership training material as well as for preservation and in batik art there are leadership values that can be implemented in everyday life. This paper provides a discussion on the art of batik for leadership material for preservation and exploring the values of leadership in the art and culture of batik. Abstract

In life, one is always faced with uncertain risks. In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, a person traveling abroad for business or tourism purposes has the risk of being infected with COVID-19. One of the efforts that one can make to minimize the risk of being infected with the COVID-19 is to transfer the risk to the Insurer by registering with an Insurance Company to get a Travel Insurance. The COVID-19 International Travel Insurance provides a guarantee of protection to someone traveling internationally from the risk of being infected with the COVID-19 so that the trip becomes comfortable, safe, and without worry. The issues to be discussed in this study include the form of liability of the Insurer to the Insured who is infected with COVID-19 and the process of claiming the COVID-19 International Travel Insurance. The purpose of conducting this research is to find out how the accountability of the Insurer to the Insured who is infected with COVID-19 is executed, and how the process for claiming COVID-19 International Travel Insurance is conducted. The analytical method used in this thesis is qualitative analysis which aims to determine the importance of clause specifications on Travel Insurance Policies, as well as the importance of writing the Insurance Policies using words, phrases, and sentences that are clear and easily understood by the prospective Insured so that there are no differences in interpretation. The results of the research conducted by the author produce conclusions in the form of as follows: 1. The coverage benefits that will be provided by the Insurer to the Insured who is infected with COVID-19 will be provided in accordance with what is stated in the COVID-19 International Travel Insurance Policy clause. However, in the Insurance Policy, there is no clause that clearly and in detail explains the limits of coverage that will be borne by the Insurer; 2. The insured who tests positive for COVID-19 while traveling abroad can submit the COVID-19 International Travel Insurance claim to the Insurer. The stages of filing a claim consist of reporting to the Insurance Company while still in the territory of the insured country, filling out a claim form, and preparing claim documents and supporting documents.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Program is a new policy of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia that provides students with the freedom to learn, pays attention to their natural talents, and gives teachers and students the freedom to innovate. This program is designed based on the needs and desires of students, and utilizes educational tourism objects as a means of learning. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) is one of the educational tourism destinations that is suitable for learning about Indonesian culture and diversity through detailed miniatures. TMII displays miniature traditional houses from various provinces with the cultural characteristics of each province. TMII also provides various other facilities such as theaters, museums, and amusement parks. Through strategies involving technology and social media, TMII strives to be an interesting and modern place of learning for generation Z, with the aim of enriching their knowledge of Indonesia's cultural diversity and increasing public awareness of educational cultural heritage that is ideal to be part of the Merdeka Belajar program.

Abstract

The growth of tourism in Indonesia has positively impacted the hospitality sector, particularly in the kitchen department which is in charge of providing food and beverages to guests. Kitchen Hotel Holiday Inn Kemayoran wants to optimize the use of food scraps to control expenses without compromising food quality and hygiene. The results showed that there was a waste of food ingredients at the butcher and commissary in the hotel's main kitchen, such as chicken bones, shrimp shells, and vegetable ingredients. However, the leftovers can be processed with creative use into new dishes that reduce waste. This study provides theoretical benefits as a reference in utilizing leftover food ingredients in the Holiday Inn Kemayoran hotel kitchen, as well as practical benefits in reducing expenses and increasing hotel spending control. By managing food waste effectively, Hotel Holiday Inn Kemayoran can achieve better expense control, maintain operational sustainability, and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
