Abstract

The growing prevalence of sedentary lifestyles, particularly in urban populations, combined with the widespread consumption of unhealthy foods, has contributed to increasing rates of overweight and obesity (adiposity). These conditions induce pathophysiological disturbances in adipose tissue, which functions as an endocrine organ, thereby leading to metabolic syndrome. Atherogenic dyslipidemia plays a significant role in the progression of atherosclerosis, ultimately increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, inflammatory mediators released by dysfunctional adipocytes are associated with the development of certain types of cancer. This review highlights the role of obesity and adipose tissue as fundamental components in the emergence of metabolic syndrome, aiming to strengthen scientific understanding and encourage further research to develop effective strategies for the prevention and management of complex metabolic disorders

Abstract

Hot flush is one of the common vasomotor symptoms experienced by women during pre-menopause due to decreased estrogen levels. Soy milk contains phytoestrogens (isoflavones) that act similarly to estrogen and are believed to reduce hot flush symptoms. This study aimed to determine the effect of soy milk consumption on reducing hot flush among pre-menopause women in Siumbut New Village in 2025. This was a quantitative study using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 pre-menopause women selected by purposive sampling. The intervention was the daily consumption of soy milk (1 glass per night) for 14 consecutive days. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before the intervention, most respondents experienced severe (43.3%) and very severe (56.7%) hot flush symptoms. After the intervention, 60% of respondents reported no hot flush and 40% reported mild symptoms. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference (Z = -4.855, p = 0.000; p < 0.05), indicating that soy milk consumption effectively reduced hot flush symptoms. Conclusion: Soy milk consumption has a significant effect in reducing hot flush among pre-menopause women. It may be considered a safe and natural non-pharmacological alternative for managing menopause symptoms.

Abstract

Cardiovascular health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, particularly among medical students who often experience high levels of academic stress. Persistent stress has been shown to influence autonomic function, elevate blood pressure, and disrupt heart rate variability (HRV), thereby increasing the risk of early cardiovascular dysfunction. This study aims to examine the relationship between stress levels and cardiovascular health parameters—specifically blood pressure, resting heart rate, and body mass index (BMI)—among medical students at Universitas Imelda Medan. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected through standardized stress questionnaires and physiological measurements. The findings are expected to demonstrate a significant association between higher stress levels and adverse cardiovascular indicators. Understanding this relationship may contribute to the development of preventive strategies and stress management interventions within medical education settings. Ultimately, this study highlights the importance of promoting mental well-being and healthy lifestyle practices to protect cardiovascular health in young adult populations.

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable age group to reproductive health issues due to a lack of knowledge and limited access to information. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of health education through video on reproductive health knowledge among female students at MTS Al Ulum, Medan Area Subdistrict, in 2025. This research is a quantitative study using a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The population consisted of 144 female students, with a sample of 60 students from grades VII and VIII selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the health education intervention via video. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed an increase in knowledge after the health education video was provided. The average pretest score was 6.37, which increased to 7.60 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of health education through video on improving reproductive health knowledge among female students. The conclusion of this study is that video-based health education is effective in increasing adolescent girls’ knowledge about reproductive health. It is recommended that health workers, especially in community health centers, provide more education to students, particularly on how to maintain reproductive health using educational video media.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of Siamese orange peel waste (Citrus x aurantium L) as an alternative stress reducer for first-year nursing students at the Pangkalpinang Ministry of Health Polytechnic in 2024. Siamese orange peel contains limonene compounds, which are believed to reduce stress. This study used a pre-experimental design with a pre-post test one-group design, where observations were conducted twice, before and after treatment with Siamese orange peel aromatherapy. The sample consisted of all first-year students in the Nursing Study Programme, totalling 87 individuals, using total sampling technique. The results showed that the majority of students had high stress levels before being given pomelo peel aromatherapy, while after the treatment, the majority of respondents showed normal stress levels. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in the stress levels of students before and after being given aromatherapy, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Although there was an increase in heart rate after treatment, there was no significant difference in systolic blood pressure, but diastolic blood pressure decreased. This study indicates that aromatherapy with pomelo peel waste can be an effective non-pharmacological alternative in reducing stress in students.
