Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of organic fertilizer and Growmore 12-45-10 application on Naga Growth. The experiment used the randomized block design with two factors in three blocks. The first factor was application of organic fertilizer (S), which consisted of S0 (3.0 kg/pole), S1 (4.5 kg/pole), S2 (6.0 kg/pole), and S3 (7.5 kg/pole). The second factor was application of Grownore (G) which consisted of G0 (1.5 g/lt), G1 (2.0 g/lt), G2 (2.5 g/lt) and G3 (3.0 g/lt). The observed parameter was height growth, length of shoot growth, the number of shoot growth, and spiraling shoot growth. The result showed that interaction of application of manure and Growmore had no effect on growth of dragon fruit. Organic fertilizer alone had a significant effect on height growth, length of shoot growth, the number of shoot growth, and spiraling shoot growth with the best treatment of 7.5 kg/pole. The application of various Growmore concentrations alone showed a significant effect on height of plant, length of shoot growth, the number of shoot growth, and spiraling shoot growth with the best treatment of 3.0 g/lt of water.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the response of using several kinds of auxin (IBA, IAA and NAA) and concentration (1 ppm, 3 ppm, 5 ppm). This research was conducted in the Biotechnology Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture Riau Islamic University Pekanbaru during three months, starting from August to October 2011. A half of Medium used was Murashige and Skoog (1/2 MS) with the addition of activated charcoal into the formation of Dendrobium orchid roots. The parameters measured were the number of roots in each week (days 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42). The use of different concentrations of IBA had a significant effect on the parameters examined. In this case of use of concentrations of IAA and NAA, the highest yield obtained from 5 ppm IBA could produce the amount of 4.00 roots per explant at the age of 35 days after initiation. The second highest yield was 5 ppm NAA which could produce to about 3,83 roots per explant at the age of 35 days, followed by 5 ppm IAA with production of root to amount 3.16 per explant.

Abstract

Based on a survey on three boat engine workshops in Dumai, the state of small scale workshop was reported. The perspective technology, human capital, problem, and development are analyzed in order to address the problem and to promote the workshop. Actually the manager of fishing boat engine workshop is quite simple in term of technological and managerial knowledge; as they have been adopted from long experience working in the engine workshop somewhere or in the family own. The number of fishing boat engine workshop in Dumai City is not match enough to serve more than 300 hundreds small fishing boats with engine. The workshop serves to install of engine on the boat, to fix out of order engine and to serve regularly engine services. The technicians were none from engineering or mechanical vocational school, even though some of them were graduant of senior high school. As the workshop business is profitable, labor intensive and badly demanded, but the competency in workshop technology and management are limited and need of further improvement. Especially in the field of mechanical and fishing boat engine skill proficiency as well as basic and practical mechanical engineering knowledge improvement. Therefore a crash program in the vocational school and curriculum review of professional program in mechanical engineering are necessary to fulfill the badly need fishing boat engineers or technicians as well as engine workshop managers in the coastal region.
