Abstract

Drug stability testing is a critical aspect in the development and storage of pharmaceutical preparations to ensure the safety, quality, and efficacy of the product throughout its shelf life. Drug stability is influenced by various intrinsic and extrinsic factors, such as temperature, humidity, light, pH, and chemical and physical interactions. Stability evaluation includes long-term stability testing, accelerated stability, and in-use stability testing in accordance with ICH, WHO, or FDA guidelines. Parameters assessed include the potency of the active substance, degradant levels, physicochemical properties, and microbiological characteristics. The results of stability studies are used to determine shelf life, storage recommendations, and appropriate packaging. A thorough understanding of drug stability is essential in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure regulatory compliance and protect patient health.

Abstract

A traffic accident is an unexpected road event involving a vehicle with or without other road users resulting in human casualties and/or property loss. This research is a retrospective descriptive using secondary data from visum et repertum results of patients. The research sample was analyzed using a univariate approach to determine the distribution of age, gender, occupation, location of injuries, type of injuries, number of injuries based on the type of injury, the status of road users, and how patients arrive. The results of the study obtained as many as 2984 victims alive and 210 victims died. The age group of 15–29 years is the most (49.3% for living victims and 39% for dead victims), with a male predominance. The head and neck were the most common locations for injuries (73.1% of living victims and 90.5% of deaths). Abrasions were the most type of wound (82.4% of living victims and 81.4% of deaths). In the group of road users, 59.2% were motorbike riders and 71.1% came to the third referral hospital in Padang by being referred from another hospital. The living and dead victims due to traffic accidents based on age, gender, location of injuries, and types of injuries are in the same group.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a case that spread to many countries, including Indonesia, due to of SARS-CoV-2 transmission. West Sumatra, especially Padang city, is one of the highest spread of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the relation between Ct value and absolute lymphocyte count with the severity of COVID-19. The type of this research was analytic observational with the cross sectional study. We collected 106 patients data in Dr. M. Djamil Padang hospital from moderate to critical severity from June-August 2021. The data were collected and processed using convenient sampling which was then tested using Spearman correlation, One Way ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results showed that most patients with confirmed COVID-19 were at the age of 56 to 65 years (30.2%), were women (51.9%), and had hypertension comorbidity (27.6%). We found that the median (IQR) of the Ct value is 23.5(10) and the mean ± SD of absolute lymphocyte count is 1213±56. There was a relation between Ct value and severity of COVID-19 (p=0.019), absolute lymphocyte count and severity of COVID-19 (p<0.01), and weak negative correlation of Ct value and absolute lymphocyte count (p=0.040, r=-0.200). Increasing viral load may elicit higher immune response clinically in moderate to critical COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

Acute bronchitis, a common respiratory infection, is a significant medical problem, especially among adults, characterized by the sudden onset of a persistent cough, with or without sputum production. Symptoms are self-limiting, usually mild, and resolve spontaneously within 1 to 3 weeks. Current epidemiological data in Indonesia for bronchitis are not recorded with certainty. Still, the incidence of acute respiratory infections with symptoms similar to acute bronchitis is recorded as the highest in Papua at 10.5%, and in Jakarta itself only recorded at 2.7%. This case study discusses a 20-year-old man with complaints of cough with phlegm for 1 week before coming to the health center with thin, white sputum that worsens with activity and exposure to air pollution. Complaints are accompanied by fever and headache. The patient is a light smoker and lives with the patient's brother, who has similar complaints and is also an active smoker in a house with minimal ventilation in a polluted environment due to street dust. Physical examination of the thorax found coarse rhonchi in both lung fields, which led to the diagnosis of acute bronchitis. Based on this case, it was found that the importance of complete and comprehensive treatment of acute bronchitis in men is expected to be a guide to promote treatment and prevention in cases of acute bronchitis.

Abstract

Background: Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a combination of physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms that occur cyclically before menstruation and are commonly experienced by adolescent girls. Common symptoms include fatigue, abdominal pain, headaches, anxiety, and mood disturbances, which can affect sleep quality, concentration, and academic productivity. This article provides an in-depth examination of the definition, types, prevalence, causes, impacts, and management of PMS in adolescent girls. Based on epidemiological data, the prevalence of PMS is quite high, both globally and nationally, with incidence rates in Indonesia reaching 70–90% among women of reproductive age, and most cases beginning during adolescence. There are four main types of PMS: Type A (anxiety), Type H (hyperhidrosis), Type C (food cravings), and Type D (depression), each with specific characteristics and etiologies. Causes of PMS include hormonal imbalances of estrogen and progesterone, reduced serotonin levels, poor sleep quality, psychological stress, genetic factors, and unhealthy lifestyles. The impact of PMS on adolescents is complex, including decreased academic performance, social relationship disturbances, and reduced psychological well-being. Therefore, PMS management should be approached holistically through pharmacological (such as NSAIDs, antidepressants, and diuretics) and non-pharmacological (physical exercise, relaxation, lifestyle changes, and nutritional education) interventions. Environmental support and reproductive health education are crucial to help adolescents effectively manage PMS symptoms and improve their quality of life. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for promotive and preventive interventions in adolescent health care.

Abstract

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is a common middle ear infection in children, particularly in rural areas. This study aims to explore the clinical characteristics of AOM in children treated at rural health centers (puskesmas) and to examine the barriers to effective management. A descriptive qualitative method was employed through a literature review analyzing symptoms, stages, risk factors, and treatment approaches. The findings reveal that AOM in children often begins with an upper respiratory tract infection and presents with sudden ear pain, high fever, sleep disturbances, and ear discharge. Risk factors include young age, poor environmental conditions, and limited access to healthcare services. Management of AOM depends on its clinical stage and requires accurate diagnosis. However, in rural puskesmas, a lack of diagnostic tools and limited public awareness often leads to delayed treatment. Therefore, it is essential to provide health workers with basic ENT training, ensure the availability of diagnostic equipment, and educate parents to enable early detection and prevent complications that could affect a child’s development.

Abstract

Eating problems in children refer to various behaviors or conditions that interfere with a child's ability to consume food properly. This can include refusal of certain foods, difficulty chewing or swallowing, and unhealthy eating habits. Eating problems in children are not a focus in everyday life, so they become an ignored problem. The presence of eating problems in children has an impact on nutritional status and health in the future. Even eating behaviors that have been patterned since childhood can continue into adolescence and even adulthood. Parental eating habits and strategies used in feeding are dominant determinants of children's eating behavior and food choices. Therefore, examining eating problems in children is important to do because this problem can affect the growth and development of children if not handled properly so that fast and appropriate treatment is needed.

Abstract

Anemia is a common nutritional problem that occurs in vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and teenage girls. One of its main causes is iron deficiency, which can be exacerbated by low vitamin C intake. Red guava (Psidium guajava L.) is a local fruit that is rich in vitamin C and has the potential to improve iron absorption, thus supporting an increase in hemoglobin levels. This study aims to review the effectiveness of red guava in increasing hemoglobin as an effort to prevent anemia. This study uses a literature review design on five experimental research articles published in the last 10 years. The study results show that the consumption of red guava, whether consumed alone or in combination, can significantly increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women and adolescent girls with anemia. The vitamin C content in red guava plays a role in enhancing the bioavailability of iron needed for hemoglobin formation. Thus, red guava has the potential to be used as part of a locally based food nutrition intervention that is effective, affordable, and applicable in the effort to prevent anemia.
