Abstract

As an essential cultural repository of Chinese civilization, the folk crafts of the Jiangnan region embody the collective memory and spiritual identity of vernacular society. Rooted in the theoretical framework of cultural communication and supported by five years of practical exploration, this study systematically investigates the functional pathways through which Jiangnan handicraft study programs facilitate Chinese and foreign humanistic exchanges. The research findings reveal several key insights: first, the intricate cultural symbol system embedded within Jiangnan folk crafts transcends linguistic barriers, enabling a deeper level of emotional resonance across different cultural contexts. Second, craft-based course design that fosters direct collaboration between Chinese and Western students significantly enhances the efficiency of cross-cultural cognitive processes, allowing for a more profound mutual understanding. Third, the study introduces and validates a structured three-phase model—skills transmission, narrative reconstruction, and creative symbiosis—which serves as an effective mechanism for transitioning cultural values from the realm of passive external observation to active intersubjective engagement. More specifically, this model facilitates the transformation of cultural perspectives from the gaze of the other into a dynamic inter-subjective dialogue, thereby fostering a more reciprocal and participatory form of cultural exchange. Through this framework, the study not only provides a theoretical paradigm with substantial academic depth but also offers practical guidance for the international dissemination of Jiangnan culture. By demonstrating how traditional folk crafts can serve as a conduit for intercultural communication and mutual understanding, this research contributes valuable insights into the broader discourse on global cultural sustainability, heritage preservation, and cross-cultural education.

Abstract

The research was conducted on “Gynecologist-patient relationship: A case study of hospitals in twin cities.” Pakistan. This study examined the relationship between doctors and patients. Specifically, a Gynecologist’s attitude towards their respective patients. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between gynecologists and hospital patients. The researcher employed a qualitative study to investigate the attitudes of gynecologists. For data collection, a sample of 15 respondents was selected, and one in-depth interview was conducted with pregnant patients (female). The researcher used a snowball and purposive sampling techniques to collect data. According to the results, patients mostly prefer female gynecologists over male gynecologists because they feel shy and hesitate to talk and discuss issues with male gynecologists. They share their health-related problems and discuss them freely and frankly with female gynecologists. Most respondents also prefer being treated in private hospitals compared to public hospitals, despite the higher fees charged by private hospitals. However, they do not want to take risks, as this can create complications during the delivery phase. The current research also shows that professional gynecologists prefer not to treat their family members because they are emotionally attached to them.

Abstract

The health field concept states that lifestyle is the most significant element influencing health. The complex process of ageing is influenced by a variety of factors that determine whether a person may develop age-related chronic diseases in their later years. These variables encompass various behavioural, environmental, and dietary factors. A healthy diet is crucial for maintaining overall well-being. One of the primary objectives of this research was to assess people’s understanding of dietary patterns. “Nutritional pattern and its impacts upon the health of citizens” was the focus of the current quantitative investigation. The current study was conducted in the city of Multan, Pakistan. The study also examines the connection between fast food and its effects on citizens’ health. The sample size consisted of 200 respondents, who were selected using basic random sampling techniques. A questionnaire was employed as a data collection instrument. As a result, statistical methods were used to gather, analyse, and interpret the data. The purpose of the current study was to investigate attitudes, practices, and knowledge related to dietary patterns. The main conclusion is that while fast food has adverse health effects, most respondents believe that healthy eating is a key factor in achieving longevity. Some respondents said that overeating was the cause of their illnesses. Many people believe that a balanced diet is an easy way to maintain good health, while it also plays a vital role in the better health of pregnant and lactating women. The study recommended that consumers avoid fast food and overeating and instead follow a balanced diet.

Abstract

This article is devoted to considering the views of the famous Polish classic Adam Mickiewicz on oriental romanticism. It is known that the Polish poet is considered the founder of Polish romanticism. At the same time, the beginning of this trend in Mickiewicz's poetry was laid by sonnets on eastern themes, which later found continuation in other forms of creativity. The creation of the West-Eastern synthesis was not accidental for his work. The fact is that even before the appearance of the cycle of poems on eastern motives, Mickiewicz wrote two unique articles ("Goethe and Byron", "On Romantic Poetry"), in which he tries to compare not only the poetic principles of two brilliant representatives of German and English literature, who influenced his work, but also to trace the origin and development of romanticism in world literature. These two articles are the object of this study. The analysis aims to determine the basic principles of the Polish poet's approach to the works of Goethe and Byron, to identify his views on the history of the origin and development of the romantic movement in world literature, and thereby establish his principles of Orientalism. The study concludes that the aforementioned theoretical works defined the eastern aspect of Mickiewicz’s romanticism and influenced his further work.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of code-switching in English language teaching at Instituto São João de Brito, Timor-Leste, a multilingual setting where English is taught as a foreign language. Building on existing research highlighting the importance of code-switching in facilitating teaching and learning, this study explores teachers’ attitudes and students’ language preferences in classes where code-switching is employed. A mixed-method approach was adopted, involving four teachers and fifty students who participated in questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that teachers recognise the value of code-switching in enhancing student understanding, participation, and teaching methods. Quantitative results show that 60% of students are flexible with code-switching, while 90% prefer increased use of English in class. The study’s findings contribute to understanding how code-switching can effectively be utilised in English language teaching practices in multilingual settings, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that promotes linguistic flexibility and English language proficiency. The implications of this study can inform teaching practices and policies in similar multilingual contexts, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of English language instruction.

Abstract

This qualitative comparative literature study investigates the lexical evolution driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within English and Indonesian linguistic contexts. Focusing on AI-related vocabulary, such as machine learning, prompts, and fine-tuning, the research critically analyses how these terms emerge, adapt, and shift semantically across both languages. English, identified as a global language, serves predominantly as a lexical innovator and supplier of new technological terms. In contrast, Indonesian demonstrates dynamic lexical negotiation through processes of borrowing, semantic adjustment, and selective localisation. The analysis highlights that these linguistic responses reflect deeper cultural, ideological, and social considerations, wherein borrowed terms often undergo subtle semantic shifts influenced by local perceptions of technology and digital interactions. The study explores hybrid linguistic practices that have arisen, particularly in digital communication, reflecting users’ strategic linguistic choices rooted in cultural identity, technological authority, and social contexts. This hybridity highlights the complexities of language use in the digital age, reflecting the negotiations between global integration and cultural authenticity. This research sheds light on broader implications regarding globalisation, linguistic sustainability, and sociocultural identity, suggesting that future research should further investigate empirical data to enhance our understanding of how communities actively navigate linguistic changes amid technological advancements.

Abstract

This research explores the intrinsic elements of Mary Shelley's Victor Frankenstein, with a primary focus on the characterization of the dominant character. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method, the study investigates how Victor Frankenstein's psychological and moral development shapes the narrative and reflects the novel's broader themes of ambition, isolation, and scientific responsibility. The analysis reveals that Victor is a complex, round character whose tragic downfall stems from a failure to assume responsibility for his creation. Additionally, the study examines the symbolic significance of the novel's settings, the narrative structure, and the ethical implications of unchecked scientific pursuit. By understanding these intrinsic elements, particularly characterization, readers can develop a deeper appreciation for the literary and philosophical dimensions of the novel. This research contributes to literary pedagogy by demonstrating how classical texts, such as Frankenstein, remain relevant in discussions about ethics, technology, and humanity.

Abstract

This article is aimed at demonstrating how the Constitution of the United States has failed to safeguard and protect the basic and inalienable rights of the American citizen, the African American in particular. It also analyzes and interprets the dreams of the American citizens through the perspective of Hughes in his poems. Indeed, at the elaboration and the implementation of the Constitution of the United States with its additional amendments in the 18th century, one of the basic tenets was justice and the protection of all the American citizens regardless of race and gender; however, in the American societies of the 20th century, the inalienable rights of some Americans, mainly Blacks were not granted or protected. Theoretically, critical race theory is used to analyze and interpret the data of the study. The qualitative method is employed in the process of collecting the study’s data. The results of the study have shown that the inalienable rights of the African Americans advocated by the Constitution of the United States and its related amendments were not reflected in society. Indeed, despite their citizenship, their inalienable civil rights were not fully protected, as the majority of them lived on the margins of society. In addition, they were prevented from attending high-profile schools and exercising some occupations reserved for the Whites. The results finally reveal that the dream of the ordinary African Americans was the restoration and the realization of the human rights principles inscribed in the Constitution of the United States through its additional amendments. This would guarantee justice and equal rights for all American nationals regardless of their gender and skin color.

Abstract

Hate speech is a phenomenon that frequently occurs in society, particularly on social media. Hate speech refers to sentences designed to contain harsh words to insult, hate, and discriminate against the characteristics, race, religion, and even the gender of a person or group of people. This study aims to examine the types of hate speech contained in the comment column of Abidzar Al Ghifari's Instagram post using the types of hate speech based on the National Police Chief's circular letter number SE/6/X/2015. The researcher also revealed the illocutionary act of the hate speech using Speech Act Theory by Searle (1969). The qualitative method was used to describe this research. Data were collected from the comment column on Abidzar's Instagram posts. The data were analyzed using data analysis procedure techniques by Miles and Huberman (2014). The results showed that there were 30 hate speeches with each type, namely, insult (10 data), defamation (5), provocation (11), and incitement (4).  As for the illocutionary act data, there are (4) assertive data, (17) directive data, (3) commissive data, and (6) expressive data. It can be seen that the most dominant type of hate speech is provocation, and for an illocutionary act, it is directive.

Abstract

The Pothwar Plateau in Pakistan, encompassing the districts of Chakwal, Attock, and Jhelum, is experiencing severe water scarcity, which has a significant socioeconomic impact on the nearby rural population that primarily depends on rain-fed agriculture. Through semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and field observations, this study employed a qualitative research methodology to investigate the impact of water shortages on household income, agricultural production, migratory trends, health, education, and social stability. According to the findings, crop yields have decreased significantly due to unpredictable rainfall and groundwater depletion, prompting many farmers to abandon farming altogether or switch to low-value crops. Rural-urban migration has been exacerbated by the decline in agricultural revenue, particularly the loss of young male labour, which has intensified the economic and social constraints on families left behind, especially women. Competition for water supplies has also led to disputes within communities and the eventual breakdown of traditional water-sharing systems. The poverty cycle has been made worse by declining health and education investment as a result of family financial hardships. Although local communities have attempted to address water shortages through conventional means, their efforts have been constrained by a lack of infrastructure investment and regulatory support. To increase water use efficiency and social resilience, the Pothwar region urgently needs an integrated water resources management (IWRM) strategy that combines contemporary water-saving technologies (like drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting) with community participatory governance, according to the study. The study's findings provide valuable insights for policymakers in Pakistan and other regions affected by drought, supporting the pursuit of sustainable development and equitable water distribution.
