Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the contribution of perceived organizational support to teachers’ psychological capital. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design to analyze the relationship and the magnitude of contribution between the variables under investigation. The participants of this study were teachers working in one district in West Sumatra Province, which was selected to represent the organizational conditions of educational institutions in the region. The sampling technique used was area sampling, refined with proportional sampling, resulting in a total sample of 302 teachers from various educational units. Data were collected using the Psychological Capital Questionnaire to measure teachers’ psychological capital and the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support to assess teachers’ perceptions of organizational support. The collected data were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques to determine the contribution of the independent variable to the dependent variable. The results of the data analysis indicated that perceived organizational support contributed 23.1% (R² = 0.231) to teachers’ psychological capital. These findings suggest that organizational support plays a significant role in enhancing teachers’ positive psychological conditions in carrying out their professional duties.

Abstract

Losing a father, whether through death or divorce, is a significant life event that can impact adolescents' psychological well-being, one of which is feelings of loneliness. Fathers play a crucial role in a child's emotional and social development, and their absence can trigger feelings of isolation or a lack of social connection. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in levels of loneliness between male and female adolescents who have lost their fathers. This study used a quantitative approach with a comparative method. The subjects in this study were 152 adolescents, consisting of 96 female adolescents and 56 male adolescents who had lost their fathers. Data were collected using a loneliness scale structured according to aspects of loneliness. The data analysis technique used to test the hypothesis was an Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the data analysis showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.105 (p > 0.05). This indicates that the hypothesis stating differences in levels of loneliness is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are no significant differences in loneliness experienced by male and female adolescents who have lost their fathers. Both gender groups showed relatively similar levels of loneliness in response to the loss of a father.   The results of the data analysis showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.105 (p > 0.05). Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of emotion regulation training in improving the adjustment of adolescents living in orphan in Padang. The research employed a mixed method approach using a one group pre-test post-test experimental design supported by qualitative data. Participants were 26 adolescents from one orphan in Padang. Data were collected through an adjustment scale administered before and after the intervention, observation, and open-ended questionnaire  questionnaire  responses. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with the assistance of IBM SPSS 23, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis using NVivo 12. The results showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores, indicating an improvement in overall adjustment after the training. Most participants experienced increased scores across emotional maturity, intellectual maturity, social maturity, and responsibility. Qualitative findings revealed positive behavioral changes, including helping behavior, cooperation, rule compliance, and independent problem solving. These findings indicate that emotion regulation training is effective in enhancing adolescents adjustment in institutional care settings.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between shyness and social anxiety in new students in the Faculty of Psychology at Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW). The method used was quantitative, using a simple random sampling technique involving 99 subjects. This study measured shyness and social anxiety using two instruments: the RCBS 13 for shyness and the SAS-A for social anxiety. The collected data were then analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment statistical method to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results showed no significant relationship between shyness and social anxiety in new students, with a correlation (R) of 0.86 and a significance level of 0.398 (P > 0.05). This indicates that high levels of shyness in new students do not directly correlate with their levels of social anxiety. This means that higher levels of shyness do not necessarily lead to increased levels of social anxiety. This finding contradicts several previous studies that suggested a positive relationship between shyness and social anxiety. This study provides new insights into the psychological dynamics experienced by new students, particularly in the UKSW Faculty of Psychology, which should be considered in developing orientation programs or mental health support for new students. Furthermore, these findings also open up opportunities for further research that could explore other factors influencing the relationship between shyness and social anxiety.

Abstract

The police institution is a law enforcement agency whose operational effectiveness heavily depends on the management of human resources to support organizational development and sustainability. The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) holds a strategic role in handling specialized and complex crimes. Its duties involve addressing various forms of criminal activity with high levels of risk and uncertainty. Such risks are often unpredictable and may arise suddenly. Continuous readiness and sustained vigilance in diverse situations can serve as significant sources of work-related stress. One strategy to mitigate work stress is by enhancing Quality of Work Life (QWL). This study aims to examine the relationship between QWL and work stress among members of the Ditreskrimsus of Polda Jambi. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was employed, involving 115 members selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected online using questionnaires consisting of a QWL scale and a Work Stress scale. Correlation analysis conducted using SPSS indicated that the majority of respondents were in the moderate category. The findings revealed a significant negative relationship between QWL and Work Stress, with a correlation coefficient of r = -0.549 and a significance level of p < 0.001. These results underscore the importance of continuously improving various aspects of QWL as an effective strategy to prevent and reduce work-related stress.
