Abstract

Bitter melon leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids, which have antibacterial potential. The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity of an ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves. This antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method. The concentrations of bitter melon leaf ethanol extract used were 50%, 60%, and 70%. Clindamycin was used as a positive control and distilled water as a negative control. The data was obtained by using the one-way Anova statistical test. The test for antibacterial activity showed that the inhibitory zone was 9.07 mm wide at a 50% extract concentration, 10.72 mm wide at a 60% concentration, and 12.08 mm wide at a 70% concentration. The Sig value indicated that there was a significant difference between the positive control with extract concentrations of 50%, 60%, and 70%. 0.005. The ethanol extract of bitter melon has an inhibitory effect on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.

Abstract

One of the causes of gingivitis and periodontitis is the bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis. In liquid form, chlorhexidine and povidone iodine are antibacterial and can stop the growth of P. gingivalis bacteria. The goal of this study was to find out how chlorhexidine and povidone iodine liquids were different in their ability to stop the growth of P. gingivalis bacteria. In a lab experiment with a population of P. gingivalis bacteria, a post-test-only group design was used. Seven samples were chosen at random for each treatment, and the samples were split into three groups. The normality test uses the Shapiro-Wilk test, and statistical tests use the independent sample t-test. The results of the independent sample t-test show a p value < 0.05, which indicates that overall there is a significant difference in the antibacterial activity of chlorhexidine solution and povidone iodine solution against the growth of P. gingivalis bacteria, so it can be concluded that administering the povidone iodine solution is more effective than the chlorhexidine solution as an antibacterial against the growth of P. gingivalis bacteria.

Abstract

Starfruit is a popular fruit because of its sour nature. The acidic nature of starfruit, with an acidic pH of 1-2, has an effect on restoration materials. Compressive strength is a mechanical property of nanohybrid composite resin that is a requirement for successful long-term restoration. Composite resins have their own limitations, such as the physical properties of liquid absorption, which result in the degradation of the matrix polymer network due to exposure to drinks with an acidic pH. This research aims to determine the effect of soaking time on the compressive strength of nanohybrid composite resin soaked in starfruit extract. This type of research is laboratory experimental with a true experimental design and a posttest-only control group design. The sample is cylindrical, with a diameter of 5 mm and a thickness of 4 mm. The treatment groups in this study consisted of the nanohybrid composite resin group soaked in starfruit extract for 9, 27, and 54 hours and the control group treated without soaking. Testing using the Universal Testing Machine tool. Data were analyzed using One Way Anova. The one-way Anova test obtained a significance value of 0.003 (p<0.05), so the research hypothesis was accepted. There was a decrease in the compressive strength of the nanohybrid composite resin soaked in starfruit extract.

Abstract

Srikaya leaves have long been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of cough, fever, rheumatism, diarrhea, and dysentery, as well as an antibacterial and dysentery. The aim of this study is to determine the phytochemical and antibacterial compounds of Srikaya leaf ethanol extract, as well as its antibacterial against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. They also determined the concentration of Srikaya leaf ethanol extract that was most effective in stopping the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. After the Srikaya leaf extract is extracted through the maceration process, phytochemical screening is carried out before the dilution of the extract, which produces 25%, 50% and 75% ethanol concentrations. Disc diffusion method is used to enhance the antibacterial properties of Srikaya leaves on the media Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). There are alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, according to the findings of this study. With an optimal barrier zone at a concentration of 75% of 11.26 mm, Srikaya leaf extract shows antibacterial capabilities of Staphylococcus epidermidis. It suggests that Srikaya leaf extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. Further research is needed to find out the antibacterial properties of Srikaya leaves against bacteria such as Bacillus anthraces, Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to see how the history of Islamic civilization during the Ottoman Turks, Safavids and Mughals in the 17th-18th centuries. In this research, the researcher uses a literature study by collecting research data from the treasures of literature and making the world of texts the main material for analysis. The results of this study show that Islamic civilization during the Ottoman Turks, Safavids and Mughals in the 17th-18th centuries experienced a significant rapid stagnation starting from the economic, cultural, ruler morality and military fields. This was due to the weak regulatory framework, financial decline, and the emergence of rebellious figures both from within the country and from abroad. So, it is no wonder then that Islam can no longer be the center of attention of world civilization.
