Abstract

Family behavior, especially parents, in applying parenting patterns to children greatly affects the growth and development of children, especially in the formation of their personality. Authoritarian parenting explains that parents tend to force children to do things according to their wishes. In this parenting pattern, parents set rules at home that must be obeyed by children. This study aims to investigate the positive and negative impacts of parental authoritarian parenting on children through a literature review. Authoritarian parenting is one of the parenting styles that tends to impose high control and is less supportive of children's independence. This literature review examines several studies that highlight the positive and negative impacts of authoritarian parenting. The results of this literature review provide a deeper understanding of how the positive and negative impacts of parental authoritarian parenting can affect children ranging from children's socioemotional, children's openness, children's morals and behavior, with implications for intervention development and further research in this area.

The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Mann-Whitney hypothesis test, and the Cohen's Effect Size calculation. The results of the hypothetical test showed that there was a significant improvement in fine motor skills development in the experimental class (p-value < 0,001), whereas in the control class there was no significant increase (p -value = 0,842). The conclusion of this study is that puzzle games are effective in improving fine motor skills development of pre-school children aged 3-6 years.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of parenting styles on the emotional intelligence of adolescents at SMKN 1 Padang. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one's own emotions and the emotions of others. Parenting styles play a fundamental role in the development of emotional intelligence in adolescents. The research method applied is quantitative with a survey approach. Data were collected from questionnaires distributed to 208 students at SMKN 1 Padang. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression to examine the impact of parenting styles on emotional intelligence. The analysis results obtained an F value of 92.616 with a probability (P) of 0.000 < 0.005. This means that the regression coefficients of the parenting style variables collectively influence emotional intelligence. This explains that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. Overall, parenting styles contribute 57% to the variance in emotional intelligence of adolescents at SMKN 1 Padang. The significance values for authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive parenting styles are 0.004 (<0.05), 0.000 (<0.05), and 0.000 (<0.05), respectively, indicating that these parenting styles have a significant impact on emotional intelligence. The study results show that authoritative parenting style has a positive effect on adolescents' emotional intelligence. Conversely, authoritarian and permissive parenting styles have a negative impact. The influence of authoritative parenting style on emotional intelligence is 52%, permissive parenting style is 3%, and authoritarian parenting style is 2%. This study contributes to understanding how different parenting styles affect adolescents' emotional intelligence. The findings can serve as a reference for parents, educators, and policymakers in developing effective parenting strategies to enhance emotional intelligence and reduce juvenile delinquency.

Abstract

Toilet training is learning or an effort to train children so they can understand how to control themselves to feel when they want to urinate and train children's independence to carry out the toileting process independently. Where toilet training itself is carried out to teach children to be able to control urination and defecation. Children are generally able to carry out toilet training from the age of 18 months or 1.5 years to 2 years. However, in reality, not all children aged 1-3 years are capable of toilet training. One way to improve toilet training is by chaining technique. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using the chaining method in improving toilet training abilities in children. The type of research used is action research which consists of four elements including planning, action, observation and evaluation of the topics studied using observation and interview research methods which go through three stages of research time, namely intake, baseline and treatment. The place where this research was conducted was the subject's aunt's house because that was the most likely place for this behavior modification intervention to be carried out. The subject's aunt's house also has adequate toilet facilities for this intervention to be carried out. The results of the research showed that using the chaining method can improve toilet training abilities in children aged 1-3 years.
