Abstract

In this modern era, the Islamic religion is faced with various kinds of complex problems. The values of the Islamic religion have begun to fade and religious rules are put aside in order to fulfill one's desires. Secularism is a phenomenon that comes from evidence of humanity's distance from Islamic teachings. The perpetrators of secularism do things that are deviant for the good of their world so that their desires are fulfilled while religious values are not adhered to. This also happened during the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, when the world became their goal and they underestimated the affairs of the afterlife. The aim of this paper is to understand the concept of secularism in the verses of the Koran using a Maudhu'i interpretation approach. The method used is a qualitative method using literature review. There are several verses in the Qur'an that discuss secularism, namely Q.S Al-Baqarah verses 85-86, Q.S Hud verses 15-16 and Q.S Al Isra verse 18, at-Tin verse 4, ar-Rum verse 30, and an-Nisa verse 119. As a form of interpretation using a maudhu'i approach, the researcher also discusses asbab al-nuzul, munasabah and language rules as a complement to the interpretation. Beside that, it also mentions the phenomena of secularism in the modern era such as plastic surgery and sex change. The results of the research explain that secularism is an ideology that is contrary to Islam. Where this concept separates religious involvement in worldly matters and leding to atheisme in the end.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a concept that is rooted in the word "moderate," which means to be in the middle, not excessive, and not lacking. In the context of Islam, this moderation is known as "Wasatiyah Islam," which prioritizes the principles of justice, balance, and equality. This concept is reflected in the Qur'an, especially in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 143, which emphasizes the importance of being a people who are in a middle, just, and balanced position. This research aims to explore the core values of religious moderation, including tolerance (tasamuh), justice (i'tidal), balance (tawazzun), and equality, as well as how these values are internalized through education and social practice. In addition, this study also analyzes the challenges in implementing the principles of religious moderation in Indonesia, including geopolitical influences and socio-religious dynamics influenced by globalization. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to strengthening the narrative of Islam Wasatiyah as a strategy to prevent extremism and maintain religious harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Quran teaches principles to uphold unity, brotherhood, equality and freedom in society. Democracy, although controversial among Muslim intellectuals, values human rights, participation in decision-making, and equality under the law. In Indonesia, democracy is considered a strong basis for society, where the government must obtain the consent of the majority and ensure that the rights of minorities are respected. These principles should be reflected in a form of state that is in line with the values of the majority of its people and provides space for dissent. The purpose of this study is to find out what democracy is in Islam and how democracy is in the perspective of Tafsir Al-Qurthubi and Tafsir Al-Mishbah. The method used in this research is that this research uses descriptive method and also uses maudhu'i interpretation method. The results of this study state that democracy in Islam is taken from Q.S Ali Imran verse 159. In the verse mentioned a fragment of a word also called shu'ara or deliberation which then the word has experienced a development of meaning. The original meaning is bees that drink honey and its meaning after experiencing expansion becomes "everything that can be taken and issued", namely opinions. In the book of Tafsir Al-Qurthubi, the initial part of this verse is interpreted that the Prophet was gentle with those who turned away at the battle of Uhud and was not harsh with them, so Allah explained that he could do that because of His guidance to him. In the book of Tafsir Al-Mishbah, the word syawirhum comes from the word syawara which is where the initial meaning of the word is "removing honey from the beehive". Then over time this meaning developed so that it included everything that could be taken and issued (including opinions).

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of religious moderation from the perspective of Islam through a descriptive analysis approach. In this context, religious moderation is interpreted as a balanced attitude that encompasses various aspects of religious life. The results of the descriptive analysis of the Qur'an and relevant Islamic literature identify that religious moderation in Islam embodies values such as simplicity, tolerance, and justice. The Islamic perspective on religious moderation is reflected in the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, emphasizing the importance of avoiding extremism and fanaticism in religious practice. In the Qur'an, religious moderation is represented by the phrase "ummatan wasathan" in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 143, signifies the attitude of tawazun, or balance, as a distinguishing feature of the community of Prophet Muhammad SAW, characterized by fairness, wisdom, and impartiality. This balanced approach applies to all aspects of life, including worldly and otherworldly affairs, which must always remain balanced. Moderate attitudes in religious life are crucial to stop intolerant behavior that can lead to discrimination. In Indonesia, with its multicultural society, it is important to maintain harmony by adhering to the values of Islamic tolerance. This will ensure that religious life remains harmonious without any discrimination against fellow believers.
