Abstract

Bilalang Satu Village is a village in Bilalang Subdistrict, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi, where the majority of residents are Muslim. On several occasions, they have engaged in pawning practices to meet financial needs. Unfortunately, the current pawning practices are deemed non-compliant with Islamic Law, for example: 20% monthly interest rates without time limits, smaller loan amounts compared to the pawned item's value, creditor intimidation during default, and weak legal instruments protecting pawn customers. The community's lack of understanding regarding Sharia pawning further aggravates this situation. This study aims to analyze the Sharia compliance of pawning practices in Bilalang Satu Village and formulate recommendations for reform. The research utilizes a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection is conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, documentation review of pawning contracts, and literature review. The collected data is then qualitatively analyzed from an Islamic economic perspective. The results show that asset pawning in this village has minimal compliance with Sharia principles and provisions, making it potentially exploitative and detrimental to villagers. The recommendations formulated include: massive socialization and regulation of Sharia pawning, establishment of a Sharia Pawning Cooperative, as well as sustainable educational and assistance programs. These reform efforts require a participatory approach to be genuinely accepted by villagers. Thus, it is hoped that pawning practices in Bilalang Satu Village will be able to align with the principles of justice in the Islamic economy.

The historiy of Qur’anic interpretation in the early days of Islam has its own characteristics, one of which is the interpretation of the Companions era. Central figures in the development of tafsir during the Sahabat era, such as Abdullah bin Abbas, Abdullah bin Mas'ud, and Ubay bin Ka'ab, had a significant influence on the treasures of Islamic scholarship. This article focuses on examining the sources, characteristics and methods of interpretation used by the Sahabat to reveal the deepest meaning and message of the Qur’an. The research model used is a qualitative model, library research type, and applies descriptive-analytical methods. The final results of the discussion in this article include, first, the sources of interpretation of friends consisting of the Qur’an, hadith of the Prophet, ijtihad friends, and information from book experts (israiliyyat). Second, the characteristics of the interpretations of the Sahabat era have similarities with the interpretations of the Prophet's era, while the difference lies in the source and quality of the interpretation. Third, the method of interpretation used by the Sahabat is the interpretation of histories that are elaborated globally.

Abstract

This study examines the complex relationship between Islam and neo-colonialism, tracing the historical and contemporary factors that have contributed to the roots of neo-colonialism in the Muslim world. The research explores how colonial legacies, political and economic dependencies, and cultural imperialism have shaped the Muslim world's engagement with modernity and globalization. It analyzes the role of internal factors, such as authoritarianism, corruption, and sectarianism, in perpetuating neo-colonial dynamics. The study also investigates the impact of external factors, including Western foreign policy, globalization, and the War on Terror, on the Muslim world's political and economic landscape. The research employs a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on Islamic studies, postcolonial theory, and international relations to provide a nuanced understanding of the complex interplay between Islam and neo-colonialism. It argues that the roots of neo-colonialism in the Muslim world are multifaceted and deeply entrenched, requiring a comprehensive and contextualized approach to address. The study's findings highlight the need for Muslim societies to reclaim their agency, promote democratic governance, and foster economic self-sufficiency to counter the lingering effects of colonialism and neo-colonialism. Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics shaping the Muslim world and inform strategies for promoting justice, equality, and self-determination in the region.

Abstract

Al-Qur’an and Hadith the two main sources of Islamic teaching do not mention any kind of state that moslems should build whether it be monarchy state or democratic one. More than that, both sources do not either tell the way to choose a leader. Al-Qur’an only tells that the public affairs should be discussed among the moslems particularly their prominent figures. So it was the creativity and improvisation of the disciples of the late prophet when they chose the first four caliphs. On the other hand, the Syiah community established their belief that leadership (imamah) of moslems community does not belong to any moslem but it belongs to Ali Bin Abi Thalib and his descendants. Then the imamah transformed to the concept of Wilayatul Faqih in the modern Islamic Republic of Iran. This study describes how the concept of imamah growed and transformed to theory of wilayatul faqih in Syiah community of Iran
