Abstract

The community's dependence on rice as a staple food has resulted in local food diversification not being optimally developed, even though alternative commodities such as job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) and sorghum have the potential to support food security while increasing the community's economic value. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge and awareness of PKK mothers in Dadapan Village, Lamongan, regarding job's tears and sorghum cultivation as a food substitute solution, as well as introduce opportunities for processing these two commodities into high-value products. The methods used included socialization, counseling, participatory discussions, and evaluation through question and answer sessions with participants. The activity was carried out using an educational-participatory approach involving PKK mothers as the main target of empowerment. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding (total of 17% of respondents strongly agreed, while 77%) agreed of the benefits of job's tears and sorghum cultivation, the potential for food diversification, and opportunities for developing processed products such as flour, cookies, noodles, and other innovative foods. Participants also showed enthusiasm and interest in developing local food-based businesses as a source of additional household income. This activity demonstrates that community education and empowerment through the introduction of job's tears (jawn) and sorghum can be an initial strategy to support food security, consumption diversification, and sustainable community economic empowerment.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks among the world's largest coffee producers after Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia. However, limited post-harvest processing standards remain challenging, particularly at the farmer and cooperative levels. Baderan village in Sumbermalang District, Situbondo Regency, demonstrates significant Arabica coffee production potential, yet most communities rely on traditional methods. This community service identifies coffee processing standards and designs rebranding strategies for Baderan coffee through student in this community service. Research methods included observation, interviews, and field data collection, supported by secondary data from village profiles and literature. The main program encompassed training in post-harvest coffee processing with modern roasting technology, determining powder fineness standards through grinders, implementing new packaging and labeling, and assisting cooperatives through standard modules, economic analysis, and Business Model Canvas. Results demonstrate that roasting training with modern equipment helped establish processing standards at two levels: medium roast and dark roast, providing flavor variety for target markets. Residents and cooperative administrators successfully understood secondary processing stages from roasting to grinding, applying fine and superfine powder fineness standards. Recommended packaging using plastic-coated standing pouches with informative labels supports rebranding while maintaining product quality. Marketing strategies through social media, local tourism potential, and coffee business collaboration effectively expand market reach. Overall, this activity improved community coffee processing skills, strengthened cooperative institutional capacity, and created Baderan coffee products with added value and enhanced competitiveness. The initiative successfully bridges traditional methods with modern standards, positioning local coffee for broader market acceptance.

Abstract

A community empowerment activity was conducted to address the issue of kitchen waste—which tended to accumulate and often remains underutilized—by repurposing it as raw material for liquid organic fertilizer (POC). The activity took place at the home of the Head of the Sumber Urip Farmer Group in Sumber Kejayan Village, Mayang District, Jember Regency, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, starting at 3:00 pm. Thirty farmers, comprising both men and women, participated in the event. The methodology included observation and preparation phases, a poster presentation accompanied by a discussion session, and hands-on practice in producing a POC, including the 10–14-day fermentation process. The results demonstrated an increased understanding among farmers regarding the benefits of kitchen waste and the techniques for processing it into liquid organic fertilizer. Following the extension session and practical training, the farmers' perspective shifted: they no longer viewed kitchen waste as useless refuse but rather as a resource that could be transformed into a valuable product to support agricultural cultivation. The activity also provided knowledge on the benefits of POC, storage and application methods, and potential challenges during production. Thus, this empowerment program offers a simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly technological alternative to support farming operations and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

Certified rice seed production is an important effort to support the availability of high-quality seeds in improving food crop productivity. CV Mayangsari Agro Seed, Jember Regency, implements a rice seed breeding partnership system involving the company and partner farmers in production activities, quality control, and the provision of certified seeds. However, the success of this partnership system requires integrated management to ensure that each production stage is carried out according to certified seed production at CV Mayangsari Agro Seed. The activity was carried out through student involvement in various stages, including observation of cultivation processes, assistance in crop quality monitoring, field inspection activities, seed sampling, post-harvest handling, and seed management. The result showed that the implemented partnership system was able to integrate the roles of the company as a provider of production facilities, technical guidance, and production management with the roles of Farmers as cultivation actors who followed established standards. This assistance activity contributed to supporting production process regularity, improving understanding of seed quality standards, and strengthening the partnership relationship between the company and seed breeder Farmers. This activity was expected to serve as a model for implementing a seed production partnership system that supports the sustainability of certified rice seed availability

Abstract

Sumberjambe Village has economic potential in the agricultural sector and batik art, but faces challenges in waste management and early health awareness. This community service aimed to increase the knowledge of SDN 02 Sumberjambe students regarding dental health, preserving local culture through batik, and environmental cleanliness management through waste sorting. The implementation method comprises four stages: survey, coordination, socialization, and evaluation. The activity was carried out on January 28-29, 2026, involving 164 students from grades 1 to 6. The socialization was divided into two sessions, namely lower grades (1-3) focused on dental health education and an introduction to hand-drawn batik with the Batik Nisfi MSME, while upper grades (4-6) focused on dental health and technical waste sorting (organic, inorganic, and B3). The results of the activity showed that SDN 02 Sumberjambe students were able to sort waste by type, understand the correct brushing technique to maintain dental health, and recognize the local potential of Sumberjambe Village through batik art. This program has succeeded in instilling awareness of clean, healthy lifestyles and a love of culture from an early age, which is expected to have a long-term impact on health quality and the preservation of the creative economy in Sumberjambe Village.
