Abstract

Background: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RATKA) enhances surgical precision and prosthesis alignment compared to conventional total knee arthroplasty (COTKA), potentially improving outcomes and patient satisfaction for knee osteoarthritis. Methods: The review adhered to PRISMA 2020 standards and analyzed full-text English literature from 2014 to 2024. Literature sources included PubMed, SagePub, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar. Result: A total of  500 articles were retrieved from online databases (PubMed, SagePub, SpringerLink and Google Scholar). After three rounds of screening, ten articles directly relevant to the systematic review were selected for full-text reading and analysis. Conclusion: RATKA demonstrates superior radiological alignment and precision compared to COTKA, while achieving comparable functional outcomes and complication rates. The integration of robotic technology in orthopedic surgery holds promise, yet ongoing research is crucial to optimize its clinical application and enhance patient outcomes globally.

Abstract

Background: Acute appendicitis is the most common reason for an emergency abdominal surgery, with a lifetime appendectomy risk of 12% for males and 23% for females. Although conservative (i.e., nonoperative) treatment of acute uncomplicated appendicitis with antibiotics has yet to be routinely recommended over appendectomy. Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Editorials and review pieces published in the same              journal as the submission without a DOI were not accepted. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the complete text was conducted, and additional scrutiny was given to these articles. Conclusion: For patients who do not have a strong desire for emergency surgery or refuse emergency surgery, a conservative treatment that mainly entails anti-infection may be temporary.

Abstract

Background: Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis (AD), is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that significantly impacts the quality of life for both children and adults, affecting up to 20% of children and 10% of adults globally. While topical corticosteroids (TCS) have been the primary treatment, their long-term use can lead to adverse side effects and corticophobia, underscoring the need for alternative therapies like microbial agents (MA) which have shown promise in improving eczema symptoms and reducing reliance on TCS.      Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The literature was compiled using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub, among other online venues. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that microbial agents (MA) are a promising add-on therapy for moderate to severe eczema in children when used alongside topical corticosteroids (TCS). Mixed-strain probiotics and synbiotics showed the most significant improvement in eczema severity, but the optimal dosage and steroid-sparing effect require further investigation. Future research should explore MA's effectiveness across different age groups and severities of eczema.

Abstract

Background: Epidural analgesia has become pivotal in modern obstetric care for managing labor pain, yet a notable percentage of recipients (4-14%) may require a cesarean section, prompting the need for effective epidural-to-surgical anesthesia conversion. This review aims to minimize the use of general anesthesia, which carries inherent risks and is discouraged in favor of safer alternatives like spinal or epidural anesthesia according to international guidelines. Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines.The literature was compiled using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub, among other online venues. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Conclusion: Challenges with inadequate neuraxial anesthesia in elective cesarean sections underscore the need for optimized surgical conditions and pain relief strategies, while the conversion of labor epidural analgesia to anesthesia for emergency cesarean sections emphasizes the critical factors of anesthetic efficacy and procedural success rates in obstetric care.

Abstract

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. GDM can classify as A1GDM and A2GDM. Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Editorials and review pieces published in the same              journal as the submission without a DOI were not accepted. The literature was compiled using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub, among other online venues. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the complete text was conducted, and additional scrutiny was given to these articles. Conclusion: Pregnancy insulin resistance or hypertriglyceridemia may be useful in GDM risk stratification. Future studies examining non-glycemic biochemical, genetic, other -omic, or sociocultural precision markers among women with GDM are warranted.

Abstract

Background: CT perfusion (CTP) has emerged as a valuable tool in the management of acute stroke, providing essential quantitative information on the extent of the irreversibly injured ischemic core and the potentially salvageable ischemic penumbra. Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Editorials and review pieces published in the same              journal as the submission without a DOI were not accepted. The literature was compiled using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub, among other online venues. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the complete text was conducted, and additional scrutiny was given to these articles. Conclusion: The optimal duration of a CTP scan relates to the arrival time and width of the contrast bolus of the scan. This knowledge can be used to optimize CTP scan protocols and to determine if a scan is of sufficient duration.

Abstract

Background: This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the literature on sclerotherapy for the treatment of endometrioma over the past decade, highlighting significant findings and identifying trends. Methods: A meticulous review process was undertaken, involving the evaluation of abstracts and titles to assess their relevance to the study objectives. Only full-text, English-language articles published between 2014 and 2024 were considered. Strict inclusion criteria were applied, excluding editorials, submissions without a DOI, previously published reviews, and duplicate entries. Results: The review included a diverse range of studies that investigated various aspects of sclerotherapy for endometrioma. Despite some studies indicating better outcomes with surgery, sclerotherapy demonstrated comparable PR and a minimal incidence of complications. Conclusions: Sclerotherapy for endometrioma appears to be a viable alternative to surgery, particularly in cases where preserving ovarian function and minimizing complications are prioritized. The heterogeneity in methodologies, including the type and concentration of sclerosing agents used, suggests a need for standardized protocols.

Abstract

Background: Premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) is usually defined as rupture of membranes at any time before the onset of uterine contractions. PROM which occurs prior to 37 weeks of gestation. Methods: This systematic review focused on full-text English literature published between 2014 and 2024 using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Editorials and review pieces published in the same journal as the submission without a DOI were not accepted. The literature was compiled using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub, among other online venues. Result: Five publications were found to be directly related to our ongoing systematic examination after a rigorous three-level screening approach. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the complete text was conducted, and additional scrutiny was given to these articles. Conclusion: The exact cause of PROM is not known and the causes could be multifactorial. There are various factors that are related to PROM including prior preterm birth, cigarette smoking, polyhydramnios, urinary and sexually transmitted infection, prior PROM, work during pregnancy, low body mass index, bleeding, and low socioeconomic status.

Abstract

Background: The choice of surgical staplers, such as double-row staples and Tri-Staple, significantly impacts the success of anastomoses. The Tri-Staple technology, developed by Medtronic, improves on the drawbacks of double-row staples, allowing surgeons to use staplers over a wider range of tissue thickness. Methods: PRISMA 2020 guidelines were adhered to in this study in order to guarantee accuracy and consistency in research findings. It featured articles contrasting adult patients undergoing colorectal surgery using double-row and triple-row staple technologies. Result: The majority of procedures used oral antibiotics prior to surgery and were minimally invasive. The risk of anastomotic leak was greatly decreased by triple-row staple technology. Mean operative time, LOS, and mortality data were similar between the two groups. Conclusion: Tri-Staple technology provides better advantages in terms of tissue compression and perfusion. It reduces anastomotic leak risk by 46%, while double-row technology offers a 46% reduction. Tri-staple technology increases staple line perfusion, bursting pressure, and the amount of force needed to take out the stapler.

Abstract

Background: =We aimed to investigate the utilization of AC medications among patients who undergo hemodialysis (HD). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies on AC medications used in HD therapy. Methods: The review adhered to PRISMA 2020 standards and analyzed full-text English literature from 2014 to 2024. It excluded editorials, review papers from the same journal, and submissions lacking a DOI. Literature sources included PubMed, SagePub, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar. Result: After three rounds of screening, five articles directly relevant to the systematic review were selected for full-text reading and analysis. Conclusion: AC medications are given in HD patients with high cardiovascular commorbidities to increase vascular patency and prevent thrombosis. Aspirin and P2Y12 inhibitors (PI) such as clopidogrel are commonly used. AC medications might cause shortened longevity of AV access for HD patients. The benefits of AC therapy for cardiovascular protection needs to be evaluated along with its possible effect on AVG outcomes.
