Abstract

Toxic relationships within romantic contexts are increasingly prevalent among university students, often leading to negative mental health outcomes and distorted interpersonal dynamics. This study investigates how interpersonal communication unfolds in the context of toxic dating relationships among students of the Communication Science Department at Dehasen University. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected via in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation from three informants who had experienced excessive control, emotional manipulation, and verbal abuse in their relationships. Findings indicate a breakdown in key interpersonal communication traits—openness was suppressed due to manipulative reactions, empathy was absent as partners lacked mutual understanding, supportiveness took the form of control rather than care, positive attitudes eroded into emotional fatigue, and equality was replaced with domination. The study highlights the need for increased awareness of healthy communication, early recognition of relational toxicity, and institutional support for students at risk. These insights contribute to the broader discourse on student mental health, character education, and interpersonal relationship management in higher education settings.

Advertising is supported by printed brochures and banners, while sales promotions include scholarships, fee discounts, and referral incentives. Personal selling is conducted via school visits and education fairs, building trust through face-to-face engagement. Public relations efforts are maintained through media exposure and community involvement, enhancing institutional credibility. Direct marketing employs personalized messages via WhatsApp, email, and social networks. From 2020 to 2024, student enrollment steadily increased, indicating the strategy’s effectiveness. The study concludes that integrated, technology-based, and student-focused communication enhances institutional visibility and appeal. UNIVED is encouraged to strengthen two-way digital communication to remain relevant and competitive in the digital era.

Abstract

Effective communication is the process of delivering messages precisely so that they can be clearly understood by the message recipient. In various contexts, both personal and professional, effective communication plays a significant role because it can influence the outcomes of interactions and relationships between individuals. The purpose of this research is to understand effective communication between coaches and Tunas Muda Bengkulu Team in building good relationships. This research is of qualitative type. The theory used is the theory of effective communication according to Devito. The results of this study indicate that, first, openness: the coach of Tunas Muda Bengkulu Team prioritizes open, clear, and supportive communication, which helps build trust and create a collaborative atmosphere within the team. Second, empathy: the coach builds effective communication through an open and honest approach, listening to the players' problems and hopes. Third, supportive attitude: the coach supports the team's morale, especially in difficult situations, by providing clear directions and motivational words, helping the team stay focused and enthusiastic. Additionally, support from teammates, who strengthen each other, enhances a positive atmosphere and builds the team's mental strength to face challenges on the field. Fourth, a positive attitude: the coach gives constructive criticism in a supportive manner, beginning with appreciation for the players' efforts to maintain their spirit. Fifth, equality: in the relationship between coach and players, fair treatment does not always mean the same treatment for everyone. The coach may give more attention to players who have important roles in the team's strategy, but this is done for the overall interest of the team, not favoritism. Thus, effective communication between the coach and Tunas Muda Bengkulu Team in building good relationships can serve as a reference for the application of effective communication theory according to Devito.

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology has transformed the way individuals interact, especially through social media platforms like TikTok. This study aims to explore the persuasive communication strategies employed by the TikTok account @byrafikawu in attracting consumers. Utilizing the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) as a theoretical framework, this research investigates how both central and peripheral routes of persuasion are utilized in the content and live streaming activities of the account. The study adopts a qualitative approach with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Findings reveal that the central route is demonstrated through detailed product descriptions, clear and rational messaging, and consumer education regarding product quality, benefits, and usage. Meanwhile, the peripheral route involves the use of aesthetic visual elements, influencer endorsements, humor, engaging storytelling (soft selling), and interactive features such as live streaming. These elements serve to evoke emotional connections and enhance consumer trust, especially among users who process messages less critically. The account owner also applies SEO strategies to increase discoverability and ensures message clarity by tailoring communication styles to the target audience. The persuasive communication observed in @byrafikawu not only influences purchase decisions but also contributes to long-term customer engagement and loyalty. This study contributes to the growing literature on digital marketing communication by highlighting the importance of integrated persuasive strategies on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, in influencing consumer behavior in the e-commerce context.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the communication barriers experienced by Community Counselors (PK) in their interactions with child clients at the Class I Correctional Center Office in Bengkulu. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving six informants (three key informants and three supporting informants). The study adopts Fajar’s (2009) theory, which categorizes communication barriers into four types: sender-related, encoding and symbols, media, and receiver-related obstacles. The findings reveal that sender-related barriers are still prevalent, particularly influenced by the psychological and emotional conditions of the child clients. Despite efforts to simplify messages, one counselor reported difficulties due to the complex backgrounds of some children. However, encoding and symbolic barriers were not found, as all counselors used simple and clear language, supported by concrete examples to ensure comprehension. Media-related barriers were also minimal since all communication was conducted face-to-face without reliance on electronic media. From the client’s perspective, most child clients demonstrated an adequate understanding of the messages delivered, citing the clarity of language and a comfortable counseling atmosphere as key factors. Nevertheless, some clients expressed confusion due to the use of unfamiliar terms or fast-paced explanations. This research emphasizes the importance of adaptive communication strategies in child rehabilitation settings and suggests training interventions to enhance the interpersonal communication skills of PK staff when dealing with diverse child client profiles.

Using a descriptive qualitative method, the study applies the communication effectiveness model by Cutlip and Allen, which includes seven key indicators: Credibility, Context, Content, Clarity, Continuity and Consistency, Communication Channels, and Audience Capability.Findings reveal that communication is effective across all seven indicators. The facilitators' credibility is supported by formal recognition from the Ministry of Social Affairs and emotional bonds with the KPM. The communication context is enhanced through inclusive atmospheres, appropriate teaching media, and flexible scheduling. The content is delivered using official modules in simple language and practical examples. Clarity is achieved via structured messaging, while consistency is maintained through repeated but varied messages. Communication channels include a blend of digital tools like WhatsApp and face-to-face interactions. The facilitators also tailor their approach based on the educational and social background of the KPM, ensuring comprehension and active participation. Ultimately, P2K2 activities have succeeded in raising awareness, improving knowledge and skills, and encouraging behavioral change among KPM. This study underscores the critical role of tailored, multi-dimensional communication strategies in optimizing the impact of social programs like PKH.

Abstract

. This study investigates the development of tourism in Lubuk Resam Village, located in the North Seluma Sub-District of Seluma Regency. The research applies a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the village's tourism potential using the framework proposed by Buhalis (2000), which includes attractions, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation, involving three key informants and two supporting informants from local stakeholders. The findings reveal that Lubuk Resam possesses a variety of natural attractions—such as hot springs, waterfalls, and unique cave formations—that serve as primary tourist magnets. However, access remains a significant challenge due to inadequate road infrastructure, particularly for four-wheeled vehicles. Amenities and supporting facilities, including accommodation, restrooms, and parking areas, are still underdeveloped due to limited village funding. The study suggests that maximizing tourism development in Lubuk Resam requires stronger involvement from external stakeholders, such as regional government bodies and private investors. Their participation is vital for improving infrastructure, enhancing visitor experience, and ensuring sustainability. Furthermore, community engagement must be encouraged to preserve cultural identity while promoting tourism. The study concludes that with strategic planning and cross-sector collaboration, Lubuk Resam has the potential to emerge as a leading tourism village in Bengkulu Province.
