Abstract

Acne vulgaris affects many adolescents and can have long-term consequences, including the formation of permanent scars. Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial condition, one of which is caused by poor sleep quality and an unbalanced diet. This study aims to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and dietary patterns with the onset of acne vulgaris in adolescents at MMC Mambal Clinic. The study was conducted using a quantitative design with an analytical observational approach and a cross-sectional design, carried out in April 2025 with a sample size of 53 respondents selected using consecutive sampling technique. Data were collected using the St. Mary’s Hospital Sleep Questionnaire, a dietary questionnaire, and the Lehman’s Grading System for measuring acne vulgaris. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho test with p<0.05. The results showed that the majority of participants had good sleep quality (66%) and good dietary patterns (64.2%), with the majority experiencing mild acne vulgaris (64.2%). There was a significant association between sleep quality and the occurrence of acne vulgaris in adolescents at MMC Mambal Clinic with a p-value <0.032, and there was a significant association between dietary patterns and the occurrence of acne vulgaris in adolescents at MMC Mambal Clinic with a p-value <0.012. The recommendations from this study are expected to motivate adolescents to regularly monitor their dietary patterns and sleep quality to prevent the occurrence of acne vulgaris.

Abstract

The issue of mental health among adolescents in Indonesia is often a concern. One of the contributing factors to mental health problems in Indonesia is the lack of understanding in practicing self-care for mental health. The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between self-care and mental health among adolescents at SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir. The research design used is correlational. The research population consists of 115 students at SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir, with a sample size of 89 individuals. The sample was taken using a simple purposive sampling technique. Data was collected using the Mifdul Self Care Scale (MSCS) questionnaire and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF). Data analysis used univariate cross-tabulation tests and bivariate Chi-Square. The results of the univariate cross-tabulation test showed that the majority of 79 (88.8%) of the adolescents in SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir had a sufficient level of self-care, while regarding mental health, most 75 individuals (84.3%) of the adolescents in SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir need serious attention as most of the adolescents have a low level of mental health. The Chi Square test shows that there is a significant relationship between self-care and mental health in adolescents at SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir. This is evidenced by a p-value of 0.017, which is less than the significance level (α) of 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that self-care has a significant relationship with mental health in adolescents, indicating that self-care plays an important role in maintaining mental health among adolescents at SMA Islam Diponegoro Wagir.

Abstract

Community Acquired Pneumonia is a major cause of lower respiratory tract disease. Non-severe cases are usually managed without hospitalization, but sputum retention can delay recovery. This case report describes the role of respiratory physiotherapy in a mild pneumonia patient with sputum retention. A 43-year-old male underwent three physiotherapy sessions including infrared therapy, chest physiotherapy, effective coughing, and breathing exercises. After treatment, dyspnea decreased from Borg scale 3 to 2, thoracic expansion improved, and vital signs remained stable. Physiotherapy interventions effectively facilitated sputum clearance, improved ventilation, and enhanced breathing efficiency.

Abstract

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a condition in which the coronary arteries experience narrowing or blockage, resulting in reduced oxygen supply to the heart. In CAD patients, elevated blood glucose levels or hyperglycemia may occur, regardless of the presence of diabetes mellitus. This is due to activation of the sympathetic nervous system and increased levels of catecholamines and cortisol, which stimulate gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. This study aims to determine the relationship between blood glucose levels and CAD. The research design is analytical observational with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 131 samples that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square Test of Independence. The results showed that most CAD patients were male (74.8%) and aged 56–65 years (46.6%). The most common diagnosis was STEMI (42.7%), and the majority of patients had normal random blood glucose levels (63.4%). The highest mean random blood glucose level was found in STEMI patients (143.59 mg/dL), while the lowest was in UAP patients (136.68 mg/dL). Statistical analysis showed a p-value > 0.973, indicating no significant relationship between blood glucose levels and CAD. It can be concluded that there is no association between blood glucose levels and CAD diagnosis.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DMT2) is one of the chronic diseases with a high prevalence in Indonesia. The main challenges in patients are limited self-monitoring, low adherence to therapy, and early detection of complications. Wearable devices, such as smartwatches and health sensors, are starting to be used globally to monitor the condition of DMT2 patients, but the evidence of their use in Indonesia is still not comprehensively mapped. Identify and map the literature related to the use of wearable devices in monitoring DMT2 patients in Indonesia. This study is a scoping review that follows the framework of the Arksey & O'Malley methodology. Literature searches were conducted on PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda with a range of 2013–2025. Keywords include "wearable devices", "smartwatch", "diabetes mellitus type 2", "Indonesia", and "self-monitoring". The included articles are publications in English or Indonesian that discuss the use of wearable devices in DMT2 patients in Indonesia. Of the 312 articles identified, 5 met the inclusion criteria. The most widely used wearable devices are smartwatches with physical activity monitoring, non-invasive glucose levels, and sleep pattern detection. Most studies were limited trials and observational studies. The results show wearable devices can improve patient adherence to self-management, lower HbA1c levels, and provide real-time data for healthcare workers. However, the main barriers are cost affordability, limited integration with electronic medical records, and patient digital literacy. Wearable devices have the potential to support monitoring of DMT2 patients in Indonesia, but further research with longitudinal design and large-scale clinical trials is still needed. Integration into the national digital health system is also important to expand its utilization.

Abstract

Meeting the nutritional needs of young children remains a serious challenge, particularly in rural areas such as the Kencong subdistrict in the Jember regency, where the prevalence rate of stunting is 29.7%. This situation is exacerbated by modern lifestyles and low nutritional literacy among parents, resulting in unhealthy eating patterns. This study aims to examine the implementation of healthy eating patterns at Nurul Huda Wonorejo Kencong Islamic Kindergarten and Preschool and to identify the factors that support or hinder this implementation. The research method employed is descriptive and qualitative, taking an interpretative approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation from school principals, teachers and parents of students. The results of the study indicate that the school has successfully established a culture of healthy eating through policies such as providing nutritious packed lunches, banning instant foods, holding monthly parenting sessions, providing group meals and encouraging active parental involvement. However, challenges remain, including low nutritional literacy among some parents, the absence of nutrition experts, and limited school kitchens. The success of this programme highlights the importance of collaboration between schools, parents and professionals in promoting healthy eating habits from an early age. The programme is in line with national policies such as GERMAS and could be replicated in other early childhood education institutions.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is a global health problem that risks increasing maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. A preliminary study in Mojo Village showed a high prevalence of pregnant women with anemia. This study analyzed the effect of pre-pregnancy nutritional intake and maternal age on the incidence of anemia in second-trimester pregnant women in Mojo Village, Bojonegoro Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024. The population and sample were all second-trimester pregnant women with anemia, totaling 30 respondents, selected using a total sampling technique. Data analysis used multiple linear regression tests. The characteristics of the respondents were mostly of healthy reproductive age 17-35 years (80%) and had secondary education (83.3%). The results of the simultaneous test showed a significant effect between nutritional intake and maternal age on the incidence of anemia. Maternal age was the most dominant variable. There was a significant effect both simultaneously and partially between pre-pregnancy nutritional intake and maternal age on the incidence of anemia in second-trimester pregnant women. Improved pre-conception nutrition education and gestational age planning are needed to prevent anemia.
