Abstract

The housing destruction caused by the 2004 Aceh earthquake and tsunami led to the large-scale construction of transitional shelters intended for short-term use prior to permanent resettlement. Although these shelters were designed with a lifespan of only two to three years, a significant number remain standing two decades later. This study re-examines the long-term condition, transformation, and reuse potential of transitional shelters in Aceh, addressing a gap in post-disaster housing research that rarely extends beyond the emergency phase.

Abstract

This study evaluates the function and effectiveness of pedestrian paths in the city center, focusing on their role in enhancing mobility, safety, and urban liveability. As cities shift towards sustainability, pedestrian paths are integral to improving walkability and accessibility. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research combines observation, questionnaires, and interviews to examine pedestrian path usage and user experiences in Banda Aceh’s city center business district. Observations revealed that the pedestrian path is used by pedestrians and shopkeepers, who display their goods on the walkway, thereby limiting pedestrian space and movement.

Abstract

Architecture is both art and science related to the design and construction of buildings and spaces to meet human needs. In a cultural context, architecture not merely reflects practical functions but also the aesthetic, social, and spiritual values upheld by society. Each building carries a story and deep meaning, which can be seen in its design, materials, and construction techniques. The Indrapuri old mosque, as an example of architecture rich in historical and cultural value, shows how architecture can reflect the historical journey of a region.

Abstract

Energy conservation remains a challenging practice to implement in office. Several factors hinder energy-saving behaviors in the office, including physical factors such as the numerous electronic devices that heavily rely on electricity, the need for lighting to illuminate workspaces, thermal comfort dependent on air conditioning, and security as well as safety measures often supported by the use of 24-hour surveillance cameras. Additionally, habitual or ingrained behaviors also pose barriers to energy conservation efforts. This study aims to explore employees' perceptions of the importance of energy conservation in the office.
