Abstract

Abstract. The indekost are businesses that rent out rooms in a house for a certain period and with a set payment schedule. Boarding houses involve owners and tenants who have no family ties and occupy the same building or site. To support its role as a place to live, the need for privacy in boarding houses is very important. This is based on the assumption that, compared to other building functions, a dwelling has the highest level of privacy requirements. This study was conducted to take a closer look at the efforts of boarding houses to maintain privacy architecturally. The object of research is in the Darussalam and Batoh Regions which are educational areas that have many boarding houses around them. This study uses a qualitative descriptive methodology. Data were collected through observation. The result of the research shows that research objects with separate masses have good privacy qualities. Another important finding is the orientation of the building and the placement of openings affect the quality of privacy in buildings.

Abstract

Abstract. Public buildings are formed based on public activities and needs. The building must meet the needs of users as a whole. One of the public buildings most needed by the community is a house of worship. For the people of Aceh, one of the houses of worship that is quite often visited is the Baiturrahman Great Mosque, which is located in the center of Banda Aceh City. The existence of disability issues raises questions about the needs of persons with disabilities which makes this question the basis of this research. The question in this research is how accessible is it in a public building, especially for persons with disabilities. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection is done by observation. that the results of the study show that the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh, has not fully implemented the concept of a disability-friendly building. This is because the availability of supporting facilities for persons with disabilities has not been maximized, and some of the facilities provided cannot be used properly, so that when viewed from the perspective of the needs of persons with disabilities, this building cannot operate optimally.

Abstract

Abstract. This study evaluates the function and effectiveness of pedestrian paths in the city center, focusing on their role in enhancing mobility, safety, and urban liveability. As cities shift towards sustainability, pedestrian paths are integral to improving walkability and accessibility. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research combines observation, questionnaires, and interviews to examine pedestrian path usage and user experiences in Banda Aceh’s city center business district. Observations revealed that the pedestrian path is used by pedestrians and shopkeepers, who display their goods on the walkway, thereby limiting pedestrian space and movement.

Abstract

Abstract. Architecture is both art and science related to the design and construction of buildings and spaces to meet human needs. In a cultural context, architecture not merely reflects practical functions but also the aesthetic, social, and spiritual values upheld by society. Each building carries a story and deep meaning, which can be seen in its design, materials, and construction techniques. The Indrapuri old mosque, as an example of architecture rich in historical and cultural value, shows how architecture can reflect the historical journey of a region.

Abstract

Abstract. Energy conservation remains a challenging practice to implement in office. Several factors hinder energy-saving behaviors in the office, including physical factors such as the numerous electronic devices that heavily rely on electricity, the need for lighting to illuminate workspaces, thermal comfort dependent on air conditioning, and security as well as safety measures often supported by the use of 24-hour surveillance cameras. Additionally, habitual or ingrained behaviors also pose barriers to energy conservation efforts. This study aims to explore employees' perceptions of the importance of energy conservation in the office.
