Abstract

Waste problems in Nganjuk Regency are becoming more complex due to population and economic growth, resulting in an increase in the volume of waste entering the Kedungdowo TPA Active Zone. An integrated waste management system is needed. We must apply and maximize the role of TPST and TPS3R. The objective of this study was to ascertain the amount of residual waste entering the Kedungdowo TPA Active Zone after waste management at TPST Kartoharjo and TPS3R Payaman. Additionally, the study sought to determine if there is a reduction in residue entering the Kedungdowo TPA Active Zone when management is carried out and when it is not. We conducted this research through field observations and interviews with the person in charge of TPST Kartoharjo, TPS3R Payaman, and Kedungdowo landfill. This approach allowed us to obtain concrete information and data for each place. The results are clear: residual waste entering the Kedungdowo Landfill Active Zone in January and February from TPST Kartoharjo amounted to 90,329.4 kg, and 24,359.888 kg from TPS3R Payaman. The reduction of residual waste entering the Kedungdowo TPA Active Zone by TPST Kartoharjo and TPS3R Payaman is projected to reach 57,909.488 kg in January and 56,779.8 kg in February. The Kedungdowo TPA Active Zone will reduce the residue entering the facility by 1,541,378 kg and 1,346,924 kg after management, compared to 1,612,144 kg and 1,406,904 kg without management.

Abstract

A landslide occurred on Tb. Lahung–Sp. Muara Laung Road Section Sta.43+900 experienced a slope collapse, measuring 7 m deep, along the roadside. This underscores the urgent need for effective landslide management. This study definitively sets out to determine the initial safety factor (SF) value on the landslide slope and analyze changes in safety factor (SF) value after the slope was reinforced with bored piles. Slope stability analysis was conducted using the finite element method (FEM) with Plaxis. The analysis of existing conditions yielded an initial safety factor (SF) value of 2.474. This indicates that the slope is safe; however, it is a landslide slope. The back analysis was conducted, and the SF value changed to 1,032, indicating critical slope conditions. The slope stability analysis was performed using Bishop's method to calculate the safety factor manually. The result was an SF value of 1.00, indicating that the slope is in critical condition. The slope was reinforced with bored piles that were 0.5 m diameter and 8 m long. The safety factor (SF) value increased to 1,323. The safety factor (SF) has met the requirements of SF ≥ 1.25 (SNI 8460-2017). The landslide at the study site required a total of 54 bored piles.

Abstract

Coal ash from the Sawahlunto City coal mine is used to backfill former mine land. This application poses a clear threat to groundwater quality. The objective of this study is clear: to analyze the concentration of heavy metals, including Ni and Cu, and their distribution in groundwater around the coal ash landfill area using response surface methodology in design of experiments. Groundwater samples were taken three times at four locations spaced 0 m, 365 m, 730 m, and 850 m by guiding SNI 6989.58.2008. Laboratory tests of metal concentrations refer to SNI 6989-84:2019. Water quality analysis showed Ni concentration exceeded drinking water quality standards with a measured concentration of 0.227 mg/L, while Cu parameters were still within safe limits with concentrations of 0.0002 mg/L and 0.02 mg/L. The metal distribution analysis definitively showed that coal ash landfilling in the former mining area contributed to groundwater pollution by Ni. The distribution pattern of Ni and Cu decreases with increasing distance. It is imperative that the FABA landfill area be located away from settlements that use groundwater to protect consumers. Further research is needed to determine the safe distance between the coal ash landfill site and groundwater sources.

Abstract

Silica carbon composite is a mixture of polar inorganic silica and non-polar organic carbon. One of the applications of this composite is as an effective adsorbent, capable of absorbing metal ions. Bagasse ash is a material that contains a relatively high amount of silica. In this study, bagasse ash will be utilized as a constituent in the fabrication of silica-carbon composites. In this study, bagasse ash was extracted with NaOH at concentrations of 1N, 1.5N, 2N, 2.5N, and 3N. The filtrate from the extraction, in the form of Na2SiO3, will undergo dilution with demineralized water at a ratio of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5. The variation in NaOH concentration and Na2SiO3 dilution ratio is designed to ascertain the impact of these conditions and conditions with the Si/C content most analogous to the optimum Si/C ratio. The findings indicated that the optimal silica carbon composite was achieved at a NaOH concentration of 1.5, with a silica content of 68.3% and a carbon content of 25.76%, resulting in a Si:C ratio of 2.65:1. In contrast, a NaOH concentration of 2N, with a silica content of 55.58% and a carbon content of 35.97%, yielded a Si:C ratio of 1.54:1. The results of the XRD analysis demonstrated that the silica carbon composite did not exhibit any crystalline phase peaks. Instead, a range of 15–30° was observed, with the highest peak located at 2θ = 30.1226°. This finding indicates that the silica carbon composite is amorphous.
