Abstract

The small-scale fisheries industry in Indonesia plays a crucial role in food security and local economic resilience. However, the industry continues to face challenges in profitability and operational efficiency. This study employs a literature review approach to analyze the performance of small-scale fisheries through profitability indicators (net profit margin, return on assets, or ROA) and operational efficiency (input-output ratio, data envelopment analysis, or DEA). The findings indicate a positive correlation between technical efficiency and increased profit margins. The identified key barriers to financial inclusion include low financial literacy, limited technology access, and restricted market reach. Conversely, cooperatives, technical training, and business digitalization have emerged as pivotal enabling factors. This study proposes a data-driven policy approach and multi-stakeholder collaboration as a means of enhancing competitiveness and sustainability in this sector. When implemented with strategic precision, small-scale fisheries have the potential to transform into a robust component of the coastal economy, achieving global competitiveness.

Abstract

This research definitively compares Building Information Modeling (BIM) with conventional methods to optimize reinforcing bar usage in multi-story building construction. Reinforcing bars are high-value materials, accounting for 20-30% of construction material procurement costs. The BIM method uses Autodesk Revit for 3D modeling and reinforcement, and Cutting Optimization Pro software for cutting optimization. The conventional method uses AutoCAD and MS Excel. The analysis results clearly indicate that the BIM method is more efficient with a volume of 183,618.77 kg compared to the conventional method's 194,562.98 kg. BIM generates significant savings for D10 (14.51%), D13 (47.29%), and D16 (40.15%) diameter bars. BIM combined with Autodesk Revit automatically generates Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) that are integrated with 3D models. This approach ensures seamless updates, eliminates error risks, and delivers superior clash detection capabilities. BIM's waste optimization strategy achieved a significant reduction in total reinforcement waste by 13,288.28 kg, from 32,148.83 kg to 18,860.56 kg. This was accomplished through the use of precise 3D modeling, despite slight increases in waste observed in D13 and D16 due to differences in calculation approaches.

Abstract

Omah Saka Papat is a traditional Javanese architectural structure. It is characterized by four main wooden pillars (saka guru). These pillars reflect the structure's adaptability to environmental conditions. This includes earthquake risks. This study will analyze the structural strength of Omah Saka Papat under seismic and self-weight loads. The saka guru is a critical element of this analysis. STAAD Pro v8i software and the response spectrum method were used to calculate internal forces and evaluate the capacity of teak wood as the primary material. The findings indicate that the combined compressive stress of 123.34 kg/cm² and shear stress of 0.83 kg/cm² are both below the allowable limits of 150.75 kg/cm² and 20.1 kg/cm², respectively. Structural joints using 12.7 mm diameter bolts satisfy the required strength criteria, with a minimum of four bolts per joint. Omah Saka Papat's structural integrity is proven. It's an earthquake-resistant construction that preserves aesthetic and cultural values. Integrating traditional design principles with modern technology provides a sustainable construction model adaptable to natural disasters. These results will undoubtedly contribute to the development of locally inspired, earthquake-resistant construction technologies suitable for seismic-prone regions.

Abstract

Bittern, a by-product of the salt production process, contains high concentrations of magnesium ions, which have significant economic potential and use value in various fields. The objective of this study is to recover magnesium from bittern using sodium phosphate (Na₃PO₄) through the process of chemical precipitation. The reaction between magnesium and phosphate produces magnesium phosphate compounds, which are commercially valuable in the industrial and agricultural sectors. The present study analysed the effect of several process parameters, including pH, temperature and reaction time, on magnesium recovery efficiency. Optimum conditions were obtained at pH 9 with the addition of a 15% concentrated Na₃PO₄ solution. The precipitate formed was then characterised using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) to confirm the presence of magnesium phosphate. The findings demonstrate that this method facilitates the effective recovery of magnesium from bittern, exhibiting both high efficiency and good selectivity. This approach has the potential to provide a sustainable solution for the treatment of bittern effluent, whilst concomitantly producing environmentally friendly value-added products.

Abstract

The management of waste has become a increasingly intricate matter due to the rising volume of household waste. The present study evaluates the effect of the composition of a mixture of used oil and used cooking oil as an alternative fuel on the combustion temperature in a steam pressurized stove. Four distinct variations of fuel composition were meticulously executed: 300:0, 150:150, 50:250, and 0:300. These variations were then subjected to rigorous testing, entailing the measurement of temperature at the steam output chimney section at five-minute intervals for a duration of 40 minutes. The findings indicated that augmenting the quantity of cooking oil in the mixture led to a reduction in combustion temperature. The highest recorded temperature was attained at a composition of 300:0 (pure used oil), reaching 680°C, while the lowest temperature was observed at a composition of 0:300, with a temperature of 275°C. A subsequent analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed a statistically significant disparity in the average combustion temperatures of the distinct fuel compositions (p-value < 0.05). The composition of the pure used oil, characterized by its high hydrocarbon content and calorific value, yielded a combustion process that was more efficient and stable. In contrast, cooking oil exhibited a lower combustion efficiency. The present study lends support to the utilization of liquid waste as an alternative fuel, a practice that has the dual benefits of reducing waste volume and producing useful by-products, including heat energy and gas.

Abstract

The workshop is a work environment with elevated levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM10) hazards. The objective of this research is to analyze the environmental health risks due to exposure to carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter 10 (PM10) at Putra Mandiri Lamongan Car Workshop. The present research employed an analytical observational design, utilizing the Environmental Health Risk Analysis (ARKL) method for a cohort of six mechanical workers. The collection of data was executed through the measurement of air samples using a carbon monoxide (CO) meter, a particle counter, and a questionnaire. The findings indicate that the CO concentration at points 1 and 3 surpasses the quality standards stipulated in PP Number 22 of 2021, with levels of 14.89 mg/m3 and 17.75 mg/m3, respectively. Additionally, the PM10 concentration at point 1 exceeds the quality standard of 0.08 mg/m3. The real-time RQ values for CO and PM10 at three measurement points remain within the safe range (RQ<1), with the exception of a respondent who is not safe from CO exposure at point 3, having (RQ=1.1439). Subsequently, a reduction in the permissible CO exposure concentration at point 3 to 15.517 mg/m3 is imperative. The risk characterization value of exposure to CO and particulate matter (PM10) for Putra Mandiri Lamongan mechanical workers was categorized as safe (RQ<1), with the exception of one respondent. The management of risk is achieved through the implementation of methodologies aimed at the reduction of CO exposure to safe concentrations, phytoremediation, and the requisite utilization of masks.
