Abstract

Discovery learning is a learning process aimed at uncovering new knowledge through teaching and learning activities. This study investigates the effect of discovery learning in mathematics on computational thinking, considering students' self-regulated learning levels. Employing a quantitative approach with an experimental method, specifically the Posttest-Only Control Group Design, the research sampled VB class students as the experimental group and VC class students as the control group. Data were collected through computational thinking tests, focusing on decomposition, abstraction, algorithm design, and pattern recognition, and analyzed using a two-way ANOVA with a treatment by level 2 x 2 design. The findings reveal: (1) Computational thinking of students exposed to discovery learning differs from those taught with a scientific approach, (2) There is an interaction effect between learning models and self-regulated learning on computational thinking, (3) Students with high self-regulated learning exhibit higher computational thinking in mathematics through discovery learning compared to those taught with a scientific approach, (4) No significant difference exists in computational thinking outcomes between students with low self-regulated learning regardless of the teaching method. Consequently, discovery learning, combined with high self-regulated learning, leads to better computational thinking outcomes in mathematics.

Abstract

Geometric concepts in mathematics possess abstract properties that require a spatial reasoning process. Evaluating problem-solving abilities through HOTS (Higher-Order Thinking Skills) questions focusing on spatial reasoning is crucial for enhancing students' skills. The aims of this research are: (1) To understand the process of students' problem-solving skills in geometry HOTS based on spatial reasoning; (2) To analyze and pinpoint the challenges faced by students in solving geometry problems through HOTS questions that involve spatial reasoning. This study employs a qualitative approach with data analysis following the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The data gathered includes test outcomes, interviews, and documentation. The participants consist of 2 fifth-grade teachers and 3 students from SD N Lulut 05 and SD N Lulut 03. The findings indicate the necessity of regular training for students to effectively tackle HOTS questions and avoid difficulties. The test results showed that the spatial reasoning of the two schools reached 32% in the high category, while the HOTS geometry problem solving reached 30% in the high category. Students with strong spatial reasoning skills excel in solving HOTS problems, whereas those with moderate to low abilities encounter challenges in geometry problem-solving. Therefore, the spatial reasoning skills of students with different proficiency levels vary in addressing geometric problems compared to those with high mathematical abilities. A tailored learning strategy is essential to cater to the diverse needs of these students.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is the level of students' creative mathematical thinking abilities. This concern arises from students' struggles to master each indicator of creative thinking abilities. The study aims to assess the level of students' creative thinking abilities for each indicator within their creative mathematical thinking using the open-ended iPMRI approach, specifically targeting fifth-grade elementary students. This quantitative study employs a quasi-experimental design. The research population consists of 44 fifth-grade students from SD Negeri 105346 Aras Kabu. The sample was selected through random sampling to identify both the experimental and control groups. Data collection methods included questionnaires, tests administered to each student, and accompanying documentation. The research findings, based on the results of the sig value. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-count of 12.493 compared to the t-table value of 1.68595 at df 38, indicate that the t-count is significantly greater than the t-table value (t-count > t-table). This result leads to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of an open-ended based realistic mathematics learning approach significantly influences the creative mathematical thinking abilities of fifth-grade students at SD 105346 Aras Kabu, Beringin District, during the 2023/2024 academic year

Abstract

Cooperatives play a significant role in promoting economic growth by not only increasing community income but also providing employment opportunities in the small business sector. For cooperatives to effectively support the economic development of villages, it is crucial for them to function as healthy business entities. One way to enhance their efficiency is by ensuring consistency in their managerial activities, ranging from planning to control, including inventory management. SD "X" Cooperative, located in Majalengka, engages in retail trading activities through a mini market. The cooperative deals with 19 specific types of items, which require strict inventory control. The governance process starts with determining the optimal quantity of economic orders to avoid shortages or excessive inventory of goods, thus ensuring satisfactory customer service. However, the cooperative currently faces challenges in terms of working capital shortage, hindering its ability to place orders according to the predetermined optimal quantity. Therefore, it becomes imperative to redefine the optimal order placement process by considering the available working capital. Such re-optimization will have an impact on increasing inventory costs, as the optimal order quantity decreases and the frequency of orders becomes more frequent. Despite the decrease in the optimal number of orders, the cooperative strives to fulfill customer demands while managing its limited working capital effectively
