Abstract

Watang Bacukiki Village, Parepare, is rich in coconut trees. However, society has not fully utilized its economic potential and health benefits. This is caused by a lack of knowledge and skills in processing old coconuts and the perception that the process is complicated and requires high costs. Through instruction and mentoring, this service project seeks to improve the community's understanding of and proficiency in the conversion of aged coconuts into virgin coconut oil (VCO). The method used is a participatory and educational approach using lecture, discussion, demonstration, and mentoring techniques. The learning media used are handouts and videos. The community was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the principles and procedures involved in creating VCO. Additionally, the community now has more options to improve welfare and income thanks to this training. The community's knowledge and proficiency in turning old coconuts into VCO has increased as a result of this service project, which has also created new potential to improve welfare and revenue.

Abstract

Washing hands is a simple but effective action in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, especially in the school environment. This service aims to increase awareness and practice of correct hand washing among young children at Kindergarten Aisyyah 2 Lekkong. The method used is a participatory approach involving interactive counseling, live demonstrations, and the creation of interesting educational media. Counseling is carried out in language that is easy for children to understand, equipped with animated pictures and videos. The demonstration was carried out in stages and actively involved students. Hand-washing guidebooks and attractive posters were also created to strengthen students' understanding. The results of the service implementation showed a significant increase in students' hand-washing knowledge and behavior. Before the activity, students did not consider it important to wash their hands. After the activity, students wash their hands after playing and before eating. In addition, observation results show an increase in the frequency and duration of student hand washing. This change in behavior shows that the service activities have succeeded in building interest and good hand-washing habits in children at Aisyiyah 2 Lekkong Kindergarten.

Abstract

Desa Cendana in the Cendana District, Enrekang Regency, holds significant potential in the dairy cattle sector, with the largest population of cattle in the region, totaling 3,402 head, and a daily milk production of 482 liters. However, dairy products such as Dangke and milk crackers are still underutilized, resulting in suboptimal economic benefits for the community. To enhance economic value and diversify dairy products, Sarabba Susu Sapi has been developed as a flagship product. Sarabba is a traditional drink from South Sulawesi, typically made from ginger, palm sugar, and coconut milk. In this innovation, cow's milk replaces coconut milk to add value and provide better health benefits. The primary objective of this initiative is to increase community income through the diversification of dairy-based products and to introduce Sarabba Susu Sapi as a flagship product of Desa Cendana. The methods employed include socialization and training for the community on the preparation and benefits of Sarabba Susu Sapi. This socialization involves product preparation demonstrations and education on health benefits. The results of this initiative indicate that Sarabba Susu Sapi has been well received by the community and holds promising market potential. Through effective socialization, Sarabba Susu Sapi has the potential to create new job opportunities and to become a flagship product that strengthens the cultural and economic identity of Desa Cendana.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic malnutrition problem in young children that impacts physical growth and cognitive development. This community service activity aims to improve mothers' knowledge about stunting prevention through education and demonstration activities in Pinang Village. Pregnant and lactating mothers are the primary participants in this activity. The methods used include education and demonstrations of cooking nutritious food. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge of balanced nutrition and the factors that cause stunting. In addition, participants are enthusiastic about participating in the activities and show a commitment to applying the knowledge they have gained. However, further efforts are needed to change behavior and ensure long-term change. The potential of local foods such as dangke and moringa leaves can be a solution to address nutritional problems in the village. The challenges faced are the relatively high price of dangke and the lack of public knowledge about the utilization of moringa leaves. Therefore, there needs to be cooperation between various parties to increase production and diversify local food products, as well as provide intensive education to the community.
