Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding papaya leaf flour (Carica papaya L.) to feed on the production performance and egg weight of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments, each repeated twice. The parameters analyzed included feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency, the number of eggs produced, and egg weight. The results indicated that supplementing feed with papaya leaf flour at levels of 3% to 6% could enhance feed conversion efficiency to an optimal level. The DP2 treatment yielded the best results, with the lowest feed conversion ratio of 4.67, reflecting the highest feed efficiency. These findings suggest that papaya leaf flour has the potential to serve as a natural feed supplement that can improve egg production efficiency in Japanese quail.

Abstract

The increasing public interest in nature-based tourism encourages the importance of a deeper understanding of the economic value of tourist destinations, especially those located in conservation areas. One of the main challenges in managing nature tourism is maintaining a balance between the preservation of natural resources and their economic use for the welfare of the surrounding community. This study aims 1) To know the  characteristics of visitors in visiting the Karang Sewu Natural Tourism Object,  2).  To analys the economic value of the Karang Sewu Nature Tourism Object located in the West Bali National Park area, Jembrana Regency, through the Travel Cost Method (TCM) approach.. The results  of the study show that visitor characteristics influence the intensity and motivation of visitors in visiting Karang Sewu Tourism Object, including gender, age, distance from residence, education level, employment level, income level, source of information, tourist destination, method of visiting, vehicle used, travel time, intensity of visits and travel costs.  The average travel cost per person per visit was IDR 285,525. Based on an average number of visits of 80 people per month, an estimated economic value of IDR 22,842,000 per month or around IDR 274,104,000 per year was obtained. These findings indicate that Karang Sewu is an affordable tourist destination and contributes significantly to the local economy. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in designing sustainable and inclusive conservation-based tourism management strategies, as well as encouraging local community involvement in managing tourist destinations.

Abstract

Mangrove forests are one of the unique and distinctive forest ecosystem forms found in coastal areas or small islands as highly potential natural resources. Mangroves have high economic and ecological value but are vulnerable to damage if not utilized wisely. Mangrove ecosystems have important functions and benefits in coastal environments consisting of three main functions: physical, biological, and economic. Physical functions include erosion prevention, seawater intrusion barriers, wind barriers, and CO₂ reduction. Plant identification can be defined as an activity to reveal and establish the identity of plants, which in this case is determining the correct plant names and their proper place in the classification system. This research aims to identify mangrove species found in Hatusua State, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Based on the identification results of mangrove plant species at the research location, 15 plant species were found, divided into two groups. The true mangrove group consists of 5 species: Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Bruguiera sexangula, and Avicennia lanata. The associate mangrove group consists of 7 species: Excoecaria agallocha, Xylocarpus moluccensis, Heritiera littoralis, Cerbera manghas, Dolichandrone spathacea, Aegiceras corniculatum, and Xylocarpus granatum. Additionally, understory plants were also found, such as Acrostichum speciosum, Acanthus ilicifolius, and Derris trifoliata. The results of this study indicate relatively high mangrove species diversity at the research location and can serve as a foundation for conservation efforts and sustainable mangrove ecosystem management.

Abstract

The research aims to assess the potential of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and their carrying capacity for supporting the social and economic aspects of the Hukuanakota Village community. The study uses a survey and descriptive method, with interviews conducted via questionnaires. Vegetation analysis reveals Damar as the dominant species in terms of land area, with the highest Importance Value Index  (INP = 117.979%), Lasa wood (INP= 67,699 %), Cempedak (INP =25.950%), Cengkeh (INP = 19.578%), and Durian (INP = 15.134%). NTFPs have proven to provide strong support in economic, social, and cultural aspects for the people of Hukuanakota. However, NTFP management remains traditional. The community faces several challenges, including limited market access, complex marketing permit processes for NTFPs, and the draw of local human resources toward better livelihood opportunities outside the village.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the second-year growth performance of kenari trees (Canarium amboinensis) from two different provenances Nikulukan Village (Seram Island) and Kilang Village (Ambon Island) planted at the Seed Orchard in Hatusua Village, Kairatu Subdistrict, West Seram Regency. A census method was applied to assess 800 kenari trees from both provenances. Parameters observed included plant height, diameter, survival rate, and environmental factors such as soil pH, air and soil humidity, rainfall, light intensity, and temperature. The results showed that the provenance from Nikulukan had a higher survival rate (95.25%) compared to Kilang (91.25%). A two-sample t-test revealed significant differences in height and diameter between the two provenances, with Nikulukan showing better growth performance. As environmental conditions were similar across the planting site, the differences in growth are presumed to be caused by the genetic adaptation of each provenance to the site.
