Abstract

The purpose of this inquiry is to determine the "The Influence of Self-Directed Dialog Toward Students' Speaking Ability in SMA N 20 Medan" among students who are enrolled in the eleventh grade during the academic year 2023/2024. The exploratory arrangement was utilized in this assessment audit, which consisted of a pre-test and post-test plan for a single social occasion. This was done in order to accomplish the goal. The results of the study, which included 45 students in the eleventh grade, revealed that the improvement received a common score of 2.28 percent on both the pre-tests and the post-tests. It was a remarkable achievement, particularly when one considers the 2.79 percent expansion in speech that was achieved. The findings of this study demonstrated that there was a significant disparity in the amount of time that the understudies spent chatting when the therapy was administered. The conclusion that can be drawn from the findings of the data analysis is that the independent discourse approach has the potential to have a significant impact on the way people communicate. The score on the pre-test that was taken before the therapy was administered and the result of the post-test that was taken after the treatment was administered will, in most cases, be able to provide evidence of this. In addition to the result, it was also recommended that this technique enabled a significant difference in the way that people communicated when the treatment was administered. In general, it is finally possible to infer that the autonomous speak method has a fundamental impact on the kids who are in the eleventh grade of the SMA N 20 Medan talking limit.

Abstract

The impacts of globalisation have had a considerable impact on English instruction, and because English is a language that is used internationally, it should be learned by everyone. The extent to which teachers are able to communicate and interact with their students is a critical component in determining how effective they are as educators. When it comes to activities in the classroom that take a communicative approach or include classroom engagement, classroom contact is absolutely necessary. One of the most important things that can be done to improve the efficiency of instruction is to include classroom discussions. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the significance of interaction within the classroom setting for the purpose of English education and communication. The purpose of this endeavour is to identify a variety of activities that encourage interaction between students. This research makes use of a library research methodology, in which the data is derived solely from books and articles published in academic journals. This approach adds to a better comprehension of the subject matter of the study. After the researcher had collected all of the relevant sources, they documented all of the pertinent findings that were drawn from the materials that were chosen. The relevance of classroom events for students will be determined by the degree to which the teacher and students co-constructed those experiences. Students can benefit from classroom contact in a variety of ways, including the development of their language store, the enhancement of their communication skills, the enhancement of their confidence, and the strengthening of their relationships with other people. In this article, we will discuss seven different types of activities that engage learners in interaction. These activities include question-and-answer sessions, dialogues and role-plays, matching activities, communication strategies, visual aids such as pictures, puzzles, and problems, discussions and decision-making exercises, the write-pair-switch technique, and cooperative learning methods. It is anticipated that the findings of this research will motivate students to engage in more active participation in English exchanges with their classmates.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the parallels and distinctions between the Sekolah Alam methodology and Ki Hajar Dewantara's perspectives within the framework of progressive humanism. The significance of this research lay in identifying both the commonalities and differences in educational philosophies between Sekolah Alam and Ki Hajar Dewantara. Utilizing a meta-analysis approach, this investigation drew upon a variety of journals and books pertinent to the topic, with 12 journal articles sourced from Google Scholar forming the core data set. These sources were meticulously analyzed to extract comprehensive insights through a qualitative synthesis. The findings revealed notable similarities between the Sekolah Alam approach and Ki Hajar Dewantara's ideology, such as the emphasis on natural inclination in education, the objective of humanizing individuals, instilling moral values, leadership skills, logical thinking, entrepreneurship, and the inclusion of community and family in the educational process, all within a democratic, non-authoritarian framework. On the other hand, a key distinction emerged in that the Sekolah Alam philosophy is rooted in Quranic principles, viewing humans as stewards of the Earth accountable to the Creator, whereas Ki Hajar Dewantara's philosophy is grounded in local traditions, with a particular focus on accommodating students with special needs—a demographic that Sekolah Alam recognizes more prominently—and emphasizing education for minority groups, to which Ki Hajar Dewantara devoted more attention than Sekolah Alam.

Abstract

This research investigates the implementation of the Audio-lingual Method (ALM) to enhance listening skills among Junior High School students. The study used a classroom action research (CAR) approach, involving three cycles with observations, pre-tests, post-tests, and a questionnaire. The findings revealed that students initially struggle with listening in English due to limited vocabulary, grammatical difficulties, pronunciation issues, and a lack of confidence. The ALM significantly improved students' listening comprehension skills through audio recordings, dialogues, interactive activities, and authentic materials. Around 75% of students felt significantly assisted and found it easier to comprehend English vocabulary after the ALM implementation. However, 15% of students expressed disagreement, citing continued struggles with limited vocabulary. The ALM positively influences students' listening skills by combining listening practice with interactive activities and authentic materials. To further enhance students' listening abilities, teachers should address vocabulary limitations and pronunciation challenges, and employ additional strategies to foster a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. Future research should explore supplementary approaches and resources that complement the ALM to further enhance students' listening skills. Evaluating the long-term impact of the ALM on students' listening abilities would provide valuable insights into its effectiveness over an extended period. By implementing these findings, educators can effectively enhance students' listening skills and promote their overall English language proficiency.
