Abstract

This study examines the dialectal characteristics of Indonesian as spoken in Merauke, South Papua, a linguistically diverse region shaped by intense multilingual contact. While previous research has focused primarily on Papuan Malay and major urban varieties, Indonesian usage in Merauke remains under-documented. Using qualitative analysis of naturalistic spoken interactions, this study investigates phonological variation, lexical integration, and pragmatic patterns emerging from contact between Indonesian, indigenous Papuan languages, and migrant speech varieties. The findings reveal systematic phonological adaptations, including vowel lengthening and consonant simplification influenced by substrate languages; extensive lexical hybridization reflecting ecological and sociocultural realities; and pragmatic practices characterized by relational orientation, indirectness, and collectivist stance markers. Rather than representing deviations from standard Indonesian, these features form a stable regional variety shaped by sociocultural interaction. This study contributes empirical data to Indonesian dialectology and highlights the importance of integrating linguistic structure with cultural context in analyzing contact-induced language variation.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the objective and moralist criticism of James Cameron's Avatar 2: The Way of Water. This analysis will focus on two main aspects, namely objective criticism and moralist criticism. Objective criticism examines objective elements in literary works such as theme, plot, characters and characterization, setting, point of view and message. Meanwhile, moralist criticism examines the moral values contained in the film scenes. Using descriptive qualitative methods, researchers can describe and interpret in detail how objective criticism and moralist criticism are represented in the film Avatar 2: The Way of Water. In two categories of criticism analyzed from the movie Avatar 2: The Way of Water, namely Objective Criticism and Moralist Criticism. In Objective Criticism, 18 data were found with the following data distribution: theme (4 data), setting (4 data), character and characterization (2 data), plot (2 data), point of view (2 data), and message (4 data). Moralist Criticism includes a total of 21 data, with the following details: criticism of natural exploitation and environmental damage (5 data), colonialism and bullying (4 data), lives destroyed by military policy and violence (3 data), family sacrifice and responsibility (4 data), ignoring the environment and destroying ecosystems (3 data), and the struggle to preserve cultural heritage (2 data). In terms of percentage, Objective Criticism contributes 46% of the total 39 data analyzed, while Moral Criticism contributes 54%, in Avatar 2: The Way of Water.

Abstract

This study investigates how psychological experience and subject positioning are constructed through the transitivity system within contemporary Indonesian pop song lyrics. Drawing on Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), the analysis examines the distribution and function of mental, relational, and material processes in Mangu by Fourtwnty, a song characterized by introspective and minimalist lyrical expression. Using qualitative clause-level analysis, the study identifies process types, participant roles, and experiential configurations to explore how agency and inner experience are grammatically realized. The findings reveal a dominant pattern of mental and relational processes, while material processes appear minimal and frequently negated or modalized. This distribution positions the lyrical subject primarily as a Senser and Carrier rather than an Actor, foregrounding internal reflection, relational tension, and constrained agency over physical action. The transitivity configuration constructs a linguistic representation of psychological suspension, where experience is internalized and action remains deferred. By extending previous SFL-based studies on Indonesian cultural texts, this research demonstrates how transitivity functions as a grammatical resource for encoding subjectivity and experiential meaning in non-institutional discourse. The study contributes to discourse stylistics and functional linguistic research by highlighting the role of process selection in shaping representations of emotional experience in contemporary popular music.

Abstract

Climate change issues have increasingly raised awareness of corporate carbon emission disclosure. Such disclosure not only reflects corporate social responsibility but also serves as a strategic tool for gaining legitimacy from society and stakeholders. This study aims to examine the effect of profitability and firm size on carbon emission disclosure, and to analyze the moderating role of environmental performance. A quantitative approach was employed using secondary data obtained from annual reports, sustainability reports, and PROPER ratings of 40 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) that consistently participated in the PROPER program during 2018–2022. Purposive sampling was applied, resulting in 200 observation units. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) with WarpPLS 7.0 software. The results show that profitability has a positive and significant effect on carbon emission disclosure, while firm size does not have a significant effect. Environmental performance significantly moderates the relationship between firm size and carbon emission disclosure, but does not moderate the relationship between profitability and disclosure. This research contributes theoretically to the environmental disclosure literature and provides practical implications for management and regulators to promote corporate environmental transparency and accountability.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in SME research, where prior studies emphasize the direct effects of digital transformation (DT) and innovation capability (IC) on performance while overlooking the underlying organizational mechanisms. This study examines how SMEs convert DT and IC into performance through contextual ambidexterity (CA) in a developing economy. Using data from 350 SMEs in Indonesia and PLS-SEM analysis, the results show that DT (β = 0.270, p < 0.01) and IC (β = 0.170, p < 0.05) significantly improve performance, with DT having a stronger effect. CA also enhances performance (β = 0.260, p < 0.01) and mediates the effects of DT (β = 0.092, p < 0.01) and IC (β = 0.052, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the performance impact of DT and IC depends on firms’ ability to balance exploration and exploitation. This study contributes by offering a mechanism-based explanation that integrates DT and IC and positions contextual ambidexterity as a key driver of SME performance in emerging economies.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of digital reminder services in improving compliance with fine payments and the retrieval of confiscated evidence in traffic ticket administration at the Kuantan Singingi District Attorney’s Office. The study addresses a persistent administrative challenge, namely low offender compliance, which contributes to evidence accumulation and operational inefficiencies. A quantitative evaluative approach was employed using a before–after design, based on monthly administrative data from 2024 (pre-implementation) and 2025 (post-implementation). The findings indicate substantial improvements in administrative performance following the implementation of the digital reminder system. The case resolution rate increased from 46.1% to 94.4%, while the fine payment rate rose from 57.1% to 93.7%. These improvements suggest that digital reminder services function as an effective behavioral intervention by reducing informational delays and prompting timely compliance. Furthermore, increased payment compliance is systematically associated with faster evidence retrieval, leading to a reduction in backlog accumulation and enhanced administrative efficiency. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the dual impact of digital reminder systems, not only in shaping individual compliance behavior but also in improving organizational-level administrative performance. The findings highlight that low-cost, scalable digital interventions can play a critical role in strengthening compliance-driven public service systems, particularly in enforcement-based administrative contexts.
