Abstract

Dental caries remains a common oral health problem in children and can affect quality of life, growth, and development. Suboptimal dental hygiene habits and limited knowledge of dental care increase the risk of caries from an early age, so sustainable promotive and preventive efforts are needed. This community service activity aims to increase children’s awareness of their oral health and to improve it through education and topical fluoride application at TPQ Darussalam in Malang City. The program was implemented in two activity periods (2024-2025) through stages of coordination with partners, interactive counseling using visual media and toothbrush demonstrations, clinical examination of caries status using DMF-T index, and topical fluoride application by a team of lecturers and dental students. A total of 40 students participated in the 2025 activity. Evaluation was carried out by comparing the results of the DMF-T examination in 2025 with the previous year’s activity data. The examination results showed that the average DMF-T index decreased from 1.69 (2024) to 1.00 (2025), accompanied by increased participation in caries prevention measures. This activity shows that repeated education and community-based topical fluoride interventions are associated with improvements in children’s oral health indicators and can be a model for dental health services in religious education settings

Abstract

Prenatal exercise is one of the activities in health services during pregnancy. The Indonesian Ministry of Health requires Minimum Service Standards containing 14 Steps Towards Integrated and Comprehensive Maternal Protection. Therefore, during ANC (Antenatal Care), Antenatal Education is provided, including prenatal exercise as part of the education for mothers as a form of "Love for Mothers" and part of the 14 steps towards integrated and comprehensive maternal protection. Family empowerment can be achieved by providing health education on prenatal exercise as an effort to prepare for childbirth, implemented as a community service activity. The activity was conducted by lecturers from the Midwifery Professional Study Program at Majapahit Health College in Gayaman Village, Mojoanyar District, Mojokerto Regency. The activity used lectures, simulations, and practical methods, including exercise for pregnant women. The activity was held from September to November 2025. The results of this community service activity were attended by 12 participants, pregnant women in their third trimester, with gestational ages of 28-40 weeks. The activity resulted in a significant 67% increase in knowledge and skills among pregnant women who received health education on prenatal exercise. Participants reported understanding the material and were able to repeat the exercise movements demonstrated by health workers. This activity is expected to increase family knowledge about prenatal exercise as a preparation for childbirth for mothers, thereby facilitating a smooth delivery and preventing complications and emergencies during labor

Abstract

Children's health is one of the important aspects in the development of quality human resources. One of the main factors affecting children's health is the habit of choosing healthy snacks. However, snacks sold around schools often contain harmful substances that can have a negative impact on children's health. Therefore, this community service activity aims to enhance students' knowledge about choosing healthy snacks through methods such as educational lectures, group discussions, educational games, and direct demonstrations. The pre-test results show that most students were in the Satisfactory and Poor categories, while the post-test results show significant improvement, with almost all students, 28 out of 30 (93.33%), achieving the Good category. This indicates that the educational methods used were highly effective in improving students' understanding of how to select healthy snacks. Based on active and experiential learning theories, the methods applied in this activity have proven successful in motivating students to make better choices regarding the snacks they consume. Overall, this activity can be used as a model in developing nutritional education for children in schools across Indonesia

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus, a non-communicable disease with an increasing prevalence, requires community-based prevention efforts through promotive and preventive approaches. The use of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) has been an alternative that is easy, affordable, and applicable in supporting the prevention of Diabetes Mellitus at the household level. The aim of this community service activity was to empower the community in utilizing TOGA as a preventive measure for Diabetes Mellitus and to raise awareness about the importance of simple health checks. The methods used included health counseling, TOGA planting and maintenance practices, as well as vital sign checks for early detection of disease risks. The activity was carried out on August 10, 2025, in RW 5, Sumberporong Village, Lawang District, Malang Regency, with 34 participants from the PKK group. The results showed a 50.5% increase in knowledge, positive attitudes, and skills among participants in utilizing TOGA, along with heightened awareness of the importance of monitoring health through vital sign checks. Additionally, a TOGA demonstration garden was established as an educational tool and for program sustainability. This activity had a positive impact on encouraging community independence in preventing Diabetes Mellitus. Ongoing mentoring and the development of similar programs in other areas are recommended to strengthen community-based promotive and preventive measures for non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Lack of public knowledge about the risks and management of hypertension leads to low awareness of blood pressure control. This community service activity aims to improve adults' understanding of the risks and management of hypertension. This community service activity was conducted in Dukuhlopo Hamlet, Jombang, and was attended by 53 participants who had risk factors for hypertension or had been diagnosed with hypertension. The methods used included interactive counseling, discussions, and blood pressure screening. The results of the community service showed that before the counseling, almost half of the participants had insufficient knowledge (36%). After the health education, the majority of participants had good knowledge (55%). The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge after the health education. Health education is effective in increasing public awareness and understanding of the importance of hypertension control to prevent long-term complications
