Abstract

Islamic Religious Education learning plays an important role in shaping the character of students from an early age. One of the main materials in grade 3 of elementary school is Becoming a Good and Polite Child, which aims to instill noble moral values. However, in practice, obstacles are still found such as low student participation and lack of understanding of the material. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of interactive methods in improving learning of the material in grade 3 of SDN No. 100709 Aek Pining. The research method used is a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results of the study showed that the application of interactive methods, such as group discussions, educational games, and role simulations, were able to increase student involvement in learning. Students became more active, enthusiastic, and understood the concept better. In addition, social interaction between students also increased, helping them to apply politeness and kindness in everyday life. Teachers also find it easier to convey material with a fun and non-monotonous approach. Thus, the application of interactive methods can be an effective strategy in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education learning, especially in shaping children's good and polite characters. It is hoped that this method can be applied more widely to improve the effectiveness of learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of the reading literacy program at SD Negeri 100190 Tarutung Bolak using a qualitative evaluative approach. Data was collected through participatory observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving principals, teachers, students, and parents. The findings of the study show that literacy programs have been carried out regularly through reading activities for 15 minutes before lessons, provision of reading corners in the classroom, and visits to school libraries. Strategies used by teachers, such as the use of reading and storytelling passports, have been successful in increasing student participation. School principals provide policy and infrastructure support, while parents begin to show involvement by providing reading support at home. Despite these successes, other challenges were encountered such as: limited collection of interesting books, lack of librarians, and uneven motivation of students. This program has had a positive impact on students' interest and reading ability, and has begun to build a strong literacy culture in the school environment. These findings are also in line with Vygotsky's theory of functional literacy and socio-cultural approach which emphasizes the importance of using routine and social interaction in the development of children's literacy.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of illustrated storybooks that integrate local wisdom on elementary students’ motivation to learn mathematics. Drawing on constructivist learning theory and the concept of culturally responsive education, the research hypothesizes that pedagogical materials rooted in students’ cultural contexts can enhance intrinsic motivation and engagement in mathematical problem‑solving. A quasi‑experimental design was employed in three public primary schools in Central Java during the 2024‑2025 academic year. A total of 120 fourth‑grade learners were assigned to either an intervention group (n = 60) that received nine weeks of mathematics instruction supplemented by locally‑themed picture‑story books, or a control group (n = 60) that followed the standard curriculum using conventional textbook materials. Motivation was measured pre‑ and post‑intervention using the Mathematics Motivation Scale (MMS), which assesses intrinsic interest, self‑efficacy, and perceived relevance. Data were analyzed with analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to control for baseline differences. Results indicate that the intervention group exhibited a statistically significant increase in overall motivation scores (M = 4.32, SD = 0.45) compared with the control group (M = 3.78, SD = 0.52), F(1, 116) = 15.27, p < 0.001, with notable gains in intrinsic interest and perceived relevance dimensions. Qualitative observations further revealed heightened classroom participation and more frequent self‑initiated problem‑solving behaviors among students exposed to the culturally‑infused storybooks. The findings suggest that integrating illustrated narratives reflecting local cultural values can effectively stimulate motivation in mathematics learning at the primary level. Implications for curriculum design, teacher training, and policy‑making toward culturally responsive pedagogy are discussed, alongside recommendations for longitudinal studies to examine sustained effects.

This class action research discusses Improving Cognitive Ability Through the Color Mixing Experiment Method in Children Aged 5-6 years at RA Nurul Islam Papayan Jatiwaras, this study is a type of classroom action research that refers to the Suharsimi Arikunto model covering four stages, namely (1) planning, (2) action, (3) observation and (4) reflection. This research consists of two cycles. The data analysis technique used in this study is qualitative data analysis. The sample in this study is 15 children of group B of RA Nurul Islam Papayan Jatiwaras in 2020/2021. The purpose of this study is to improve children's cognitive abilities through the color mixing experiment method. The data collection technique in this study uses observation sheet instruments, and documentation. From the results of observations, data was obtained that children aged 5-6 years at RA Nurul Islam Papayan Jatiwaras, in terms of cognitive ability are still lacking. The results of the study show that the application of experimental methods can improve children's cognitive abilities, as evidenced by the increase in children's scores in cycle I is 27% which is in the medium category. The score in the second cycle of 60% is in the high category. This shows that the application of experimental methods turned out to be very effective in improving children's cognitive abilities, because there was an increase in scores from cycle I to cycle II by 33%. Therefore, teachers must be able to implement the learning process in accordance with the characteristics and stages of the child's age so that learning is beneficial for children, as well as using experimental methods to improve the cognitive abilities of children aged 5-6 years.
