Abstract

This study critically examines the paradox of obedience within the Indonesian National Police (Polri), a command-based institution where hierarchical discipline, loyalty, and ethical conduct are often in tension. Drawing on 25 in-depth interviews with police officers and community members, and supported by document analysis, the research explores how institutional structures and leadership cultures shape behaviors related to moral disengagement, organizational silence, and vertical loyalty. Using a qualitative case study approach under an interpretivist paradigm, thematic coding was conducted with NVivo software to identify five dominant patterns: (1) imperative hierarchical obedience, (2) loyalty to superiors over institutional values, (3) systemic erosion of personal integrity, (4) fear-driven organizational silence, and (5) bifurcated public perceptions of institutional legitimacy. The findings reveal that obedience is frequently decoupled from moral judgment, transforming into an instrument of structural control that suppresses dissent and rewards conformity. Moreover, loyalty—while fostering cohesion—can enable permissive cultures that rationalize unethical conduct when not grounded in institutional ethics. The study offers a conceptual model linking obedience, loyalty, and silence as a behavioral continuum, which, if left unmoderated by ethical leadership and institutional integrity, results in normalized moral disengagement. This paper contributes theoretically to the discourse on command institutions by reframing obedience as an ethical condition shaped by organizational design, not merely individual will. It also provides practical insights for reforming policing culture through leadership training, whistleblower protection, and integrity-based accountability frameworks.

Abstract

Organizational behavior (OB) research has long been shaped by dualisms, most notably the divide between micro-level analyses of individual and group behavior and macro-level investigations of organizational structures, culture, and leadership. While traditionally studied in isolation, recent global disruptions have underscored the need for an integrative perspective that transcends these boundaries. This study employs a systematic literature review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines to synthesize findings from quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research published between 2010 and 2024. Drawing on foundational and contemporary studies, we examine how micro-level constructs, such as emotional intelligence, job crafting, and adaptability, interact with macro-level dynamics, such as leadership style, structural design, and organizational culture to influence outcomes including effectiveness, psychological safety, and resilience. The analysis reveals that reciprocal micro-macro interactions are mediated by cultural and structural mechanisms and moderated by contextual variables, such as crisis conditions and digital work environments. We propose a dual-perspective theoretical framework that reconceptualizes OB as an emergent, co-constitutive process, bridging personal agency with institutional systems. This approach enhances theoretical clarity, enables cross-disciplinary integration, and informs the design of practical interventions that align individual development with systemic transformation. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research, emphasizing longitudinal designs, cross-cultural comparisons, and relational models as avenues for advancing holistic OB theory and practice. Keywords: Organizational behavior, micro-macro integration, emotional intelligence, leadership, job crafting, organizational structure, systematic literature review, dual-perspective framework

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of board academic qualifications and the moderating effect of CEO gender diversity on earnings management in Nigeria's non-financial services sector. Drawing on a population of 105 listed non-financial firms, a sample of 72 firms was selected over a ten-year period (2013–2022). The study employs a correlational and ex post facto research design, utilizing secondary data obtained from corporate financial statements and the Nigerian Exchange Group website. A longitudinal dataset was constructed and analyzed using panel regression techniques via Stata 17. The findings reveal that both board academic qualifications and CEO gender diversity have a positive and significant association with earnings management. However, CEO gender diversity negatively moderates the relationship between board academic qualifications and earnings management. This suggests that while highly educated boards may be associated with increased earnings management practices, the presence of gender-diverse leadership at the CEO level can mitigate this tendency. The study concludes that board academic qualifications significantly influence earnings management among Nigeria’s non-financial firms, but CEO gender diversity serves as an effective governance mechanism, reducing opportunistic financial reporting behaviors. Accordingly, the study recommends that regulatory authorities and shareholders actively promote gender diversity, particularly at the CEO level, to enhance corporate governance structures and discourage earnings management. Additionally, firms should incorporate ethical leadership training into board development initiatives to complement academic expertise with sound ethical judgment.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cheap Food Movement as an inflation control strategy in Parepare City initiated by the Food Security Office as an implementation of food supply and price stabilization policies in accordance with the Food Law of 2012 No. 18. By using descriptive qualitative methods through observation, interviews, and documentation, as well as triangulation techniques for data validity, the results show that GPM is carried out every Tuesday and at certain times can be done more than that is considered effective in reducing the average price of basic necessities by 15% below market prices and increasing access to quality food for people, especially low-income groups. The success of the program is strongly supported by synergy across local government agencies and the private sector, although limited food quantities are still the main obstacle. This program is considered to be able to support price stability and people's purchasing power, so the Parepare City government is encouraged to continue to increase periodic evaluations, expand the scope of distribution, and strengthen socialization so that the benefits of GPM are more optimal as an instrument to control regional inflation. Abstract

The research was used to determine the relationship between e-WOM (Electronic Word Of Mouth), sales promotion, and brand image to consumer decisions in purchasing Scarlett Whitening products on the Shopee platform. The method in this study is quantitative carried out using survey techniques. The distribution of questionnaires to one hundred respondents who use Scarlett Whitening products through Shopee produced the data needed for data analysis, which was carried out through the stages of classical assumption tests that included multicollinearity, normality, and heteroscedasticity, data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression. The results show that e-WOM, sales promotion, and brand image have a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions, both separately and simultaneously. These three independent variables contributed 58.8% to the variation in purchasing decisions, based on the value of the determination coefficient (R2) which reached 0.588. Of all the factors studied, Purchasing decisions are most triggered by perceptions of brand image. This shows that the impression of the brand in the minds of consumers is the main trigger that drives purchase intent, even stronger than other factors such as digital communication strategies and strengthening brand image in making wise purchase decisions when shopping online. Companies should continue to strive to improve their brand reputation and maintain their e-WOM (Electronic Word Of Mouth) strategy as well as targeted promotions, which can be an additional trigger that encourages consumers to make a purchase decision.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of product innovation and pricing strategy as two key elements in maintaining the sustainability and increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs, particularly in the traditional culinary sector. The purpose of this study is to analyze how product innovation implemented by the Gado-Gado Suramadu MSME, along with a pricing strategy determined based on quality and production costs, contributes to increased sales. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature review. Data are analyzed thematically by identifying patterns from field results and linking them to relevant theories. The results show that product innovation, such as adding topping variations and traditional presentations, provides added value that has a positive impact on customer satisfaction and loyalty. Meanwhile, a pricing strategy that takes production costs and consumer purchasing power into account creates a balance between quality and selling value, and maintains the financial stability of the business. In conclusion, the synergy between product innovation and pricing strategy plays a significant role in increasing the competitiveness and sales revenue of the Gado-Gado Suramadu MSME. This research is expected to be a practical reference for MSME actors in developing relevant business strategies, as well as being a consideration for policy makers in designing MSME coaching and development programs in the culinary sector

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of leverage, profitability, and firm size on firm value in automotive companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2019–2023. Firm value in this study is measured using Price to Book Value (PBV), leverage is measured by Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), profitability is measured using Return on Assets (ROA), and firm size is represented by the natural logarithm of total assets (SIZE). The analytical method used is panel data regression with a fixed effect model, selected based on the results of the Chow test and Hausman test. The findings indicate that leverage (DAR) has a positive and significant effect on firm value, suggesting that the optimal use of debt can enhance investor confidence. Profitability (ROA) also has a positive and significant effect, indicating that firms with higher profitability tend to have better market value. Conversely, firm size (SIZE) has a negative and significant effect on firm value, implying that larger firms do not necessarily possess higher market value

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of awareness of traders on the safety of fresh food of plant origin (PSAT) at Lakessi Market, Parepare City, focusing on the commodity of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) and red chili peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) of the importance of food safety for public health and product quality. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of traders and the Parepare City Food Security Office. The results of the study showed that most merchants assess the feasibility of a product only from visual aspects such as color and texture, without considering the risk of chemical or biological contamination. Prevention efforts are carried out through manual sorting and arranging products on the table so that they do not come into direct contact with the floor, but the condition of the market that is muddy, dusty, and crowded with visitors remains a big challenge. The Food Security Agency has conducted field inspections and laboratory tests on red chili samples, which showed the presence of pesticide residues, although the testing is still qualitative. These findings confirm the need to raise traders' awareness through ongoing education, technical mentoring, and the implementation of post-harvest good practices (GHPs) to ensure the safety of the PSAT. Collaboration between traders and local governments is the key in ensuring safe, healthy, and quality food reaches consumers, while increasing the competitiveness of traditional market products.
