Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to English language learning and encouraged the emergence of various technology-based learning innovations. This study aims to analyze the development of digital-based learning in English classrooms during the period 2020–2026, covering research trends, types of technology used, benefits, and implementation challenges. The study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by adapting the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, which include identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages. Data were obtained from various scientific databases, namely Google Scholar, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ERIC, and SpringerLink. A total of 25 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results show that digital-based learning has experienced rapid development, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. The most dominant technologies used are Learning Management Systems (LMS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media, mobile learning applications, and gamification. Digital technology contributes to increasing learning motivation, student engagement, access to authentic learning resources, English language skills, and learning independence. Its implementation still faces various challenges, such as limited internet access, low digital literacy, inadequate teacher training, and dependence on technology. This study concludes that digital-based learning has great potential to support more adaptive, personalized, and student-centered English learning in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to find out history learning at SMA Negeri 2 Tenggarong Seberang and measure the influence of the application of the Inquiry Based Learning model on the learning activities of grade XI students. The research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design in the form of Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample was taken by simple random sampling, namely class XI A2 as the experimental class and class XI A1 as the control class (33 students each). Data was collected through observation of student activities, Likert scale questionnaires, and pretest-posttests. The results showed that the activity of students in the experimental class reached 78.75% (Good category), higher than the control class of 66.25% (Adequate category). The validity test of the questionnaire produced 27 valid items with a reliability of Cronbach's Alpha of 0.918. The Independent Sample t-test in the posttest obtained a significance value of 0.027 (< 0.05), so that an alternative hypothesis was accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Inquiry Based Learning learning model has a significant effect on improving the learning activities of grade XI students in History learning at SMA Negeri 2 Tenggarong Seberang. This model is able to create more active, interactive, and compliant learning with the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of the community living around the Madampi spring and to determine the extent to which the community benefits from the existence of this spring. This study employs a descriptive method using simple random sampling to determine the sample size. Based on an analysis of the socioeconomic characteristics of the community around the Madampi spring—specifically regarding income, education, length of residence, distance from socioeconomic facilities, and land ownership—two characteristics were found to be less significant in terms of the community’s socioeconomic conditions: income and length of residence. The characteristics that significantly influence the community’s socioeconomic conditions are education, distance from socioeconomic facilities (such as markets, banks, health centers, and others), and land ownership. The land ownership characteristic has a particularly significant impact on the community’s socioeconomic conditions. This is evidenced by the community’s use of vacant land to grow cocoa and oranges, which has now begun to transform and improve the community’s economy.

Abstract

Advertising functions not only as a promotional medium but also as a cultural text that conveys ideological meanings through visual and verbal signs. This study aims to analyze the meanings embedded in a GrabBike advertisement featuring the Indonesian comedian and actor Mas Adam (Inul Daratista’s husband) by employing Roland Barthes' semiotic framework. The study applies a qualitative descriptive method focusing on Barthes' two orders of signification: denotation and connotation, as well as myth. The findings reveal that the advertisement constructs meanings beyond its literal promotional message. At the denotative level, the advertisement presents a GrabBike rider identified as Mas Adam, accompanied by promotional text highlighting affordable daily transportation costs. At the connotative level, the visual and verbal elements signify affordability, reliability, and familiarity, while the use of a well-known public figure reinforces trust and cultural proximity with Indonesian consumers. At the mythological level, the advertisement naturalizes the ideology that digital transportation services are economical, accessible, and constitute an integral part of everyday urban life. The study demonstrates that advertising not only sells services but also shapes social perceptions and consumer lifestyles.

Abstract

This study presents a semiotic analysis of Brian McKnight’s song “Marry Your Daughter” (2008), drawing on Ferdinand de Saussure’s theory of linguistic signs. The primary aim is to identify and interpret the signs, signifiers, and signifieds embedded in the song lyrics, and to examine how these linguistic elements construct concepts of love, commitment, family values, and marriage. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the analysis applies Saussure’s dyadic model of the sign—consisting of signifier (the sound-image or word form) and signified (the conceptual meaning)—to six key lyrical phrases selected purposively from the song text. The findings reveal that McKnight’s lyrics deploy a network of culturally loaded signs that convey not only romantic sentiment but also socially shared values of respect, faithfulness, and familial approval. Words and phrases such as “love of my life,” “promise to be true,” and “marry your daughter” function as powerful semiotic markers that reflect broader cultural and emotional ideals surrounding the institution of marriage. This study demonstrates that song lyrics constitute a rich semiotic text through which deeply held cultural values are encoded and communicated, and it affirms the relevance of Saussurean semiotics as an analytical framework in language and literature education.

Abstract

A film poster is a visual communication medium that not only functions as a promotional tool but also as a sign system containing various cultural and ideological meanings. This study aims to analyze the meaning contained in the Wicked film poster using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach through three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with documentation techniques on one object, namely the official Wicked film poster. Analysis was carried out on visual elements such as characters, colors, lighting, composition, background, typography, and slogans on the poster. The results show that at the denotation level, the poster displays two main characters with contrasting visual characteristics, a yellow road leading to the castle, and a strong fantasy nuance. At the connotation level, this visual contrast represents moral conflict, identity struggles, hope, and the process of character transformation. Meanwhile, at the myth level, the poster constructs an ideology about the dichotomy between good and evil, transformation as a path to redemption, fantasy as an emotional escape, and Western cultural constructions that associate beauty with goodness and physical differences with moral deviance. This study shows that film posters not only convey information about a film but also reproduce social and cultural values that exist in public spaces through a visual sign system. Thus, Roland Barthes's semiotics provides an effective analytical framework for uncovering the explicit and implicit meanings hidden in contemporary visual media.
