Abstract

Adolescents tend to consume more sugar than other age groups. The habit of consuming sweet drinks needs special attention in public health considering its significant contribution to increasing blood sugar levels and body weight, including adolescents at SMP N 51 Pekanbaru. The purpose of community service is to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of adolescents at SMP N 51 Pekanbaru in limiting sugar consumption as an effort to maintain balanced nutrition. Community service activities are carried out by providing education through lecture methods using power points . Educational activities result in an increase in the level of knowledge and attitudes in limiting sugar consumption, while there is no increase in actions in limiting sugar consumption after being given education, this occurs because of the difficulty in conducting counseling outdoors because the power point displayed cannot be seen clearly by all participants .

Abstract

The stages of psychosocial development of school-age children are in the industrial phase, namely the ability to produce work, interact and achieve in learning. If school children are unable to achieve their development optimally, then school children will experience low self-esteem. Stimulation of moral and social development of school-age children is an important aspect in supporting psychosocial growth because it can affect social abilities in the future. Without proper stimulation, children can experience obstacles in development that can cause problems such as low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence. The purpose of this service is to stimulate the development of moral and social aspects of school-age children. The method used in this service activity is to carry out stimulation on 30 school-age children by providing stimulation on the moral and social development aspects of school-age children. Abstract

In In the modern era, circumcision methods have undergone many innovations. However, the conventional methods that are still widely used often cause fear in children and slow down the recovery process, thereby disrupting daily activities. One innovative solution is the needle-free combo sealer method, which is minimally painful and accelerates healing. Unfortunately, this method is not yet widely known by the public, particularly in the city of Jambi and the surrounding areas of the Jami'atul Berkah Foundation. On the other hand, economic constraints remain the primary barrier for orphans and the underprivileged in accessing modern circumcision services. This community service initiative aims to assist them through health education and the implementation of circumcision procedures using the combo sealer method. Activities include counseling, informed consent, medication administration, procedures performed by professional medical staff, and outcome evaluation. This method has been proven to produce neater results, minimal bleeding, no stitches or bandages, and allows children to resume activities sooner.

Abstract

Nursing students often face psychological challenges before graduation, including low self-esteem, which may hinder their readiness to enter the workforce. This community service aimed to improve the self-esteem of eighth-semester nursing students through a structured training program to better prepare them for professional life. The training was conducted at the ITSKES ICME Jombang Hall in February 2025 and involved 82 students selected using total sampling. The one-day session included materials on self-concept reinforcement, motivational techniques, and job interview simulations. Evaluation was carried out using pre- and post-tests based on the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. The pre-test results showed that 34.1% of respondents had low self-esteem, 52.4% moderate, and 13.5% high. After the training, there was a significant increase: only 3.7% remained in the low category, 40.2% were moderate, and 56.1% had reached a high self-esteem level. The self-esteem enhancement training proved effective in increasing the confidence of nursing students and is recommended as a strategy to strengthen soft skills in preparation for entering the workforce.

Abstract

Hospitals play a key role in promoting health through education, especially for patients and their families. One effective method to support postpartum recovery is postpartum exercise, which helps restore bodily functions, promote uterine involution, and prevent complications. At the Mina Inpatient Ward of RSI Arafah Jambi, many postpartum mothers had not received proper education about these exercises. To address this, a community service activity was held from April 29 to May 12, 2025, targeting 16 postpartum mothers. Five mothers received only verbal education due to limited mobility, while 11 joined both education and exercise demonstrations. Observations and discussions showed improved knowledge and skills, with most mothers able to recall and correctly perform the exercises. Their active participation and positive feedback highlighted the effectiveness of the educational approach. This initiative proves valuable in enhancing postpartum recovery and is recommended for continued integration into hospital health promotion programs.

Abstract

The rising consumption of packaged sweetened beverages among children poses serious public health concerns, particularly for kidney health. These drinks, commonly containing high sugar levels, artificial colorings, and preservatives, are aggressively marketed to children through appealing packaging and strategic advertisement placements. Indonesia ranks third in Southeast Asia for sweetened beverage consumption, with 62% of children reportedly consuming them at least once a week. Despite the health risks, public awareness—especially among parents and educators—remains limited. This community service initiative aimed to educate kindergarten-aged children on the dangers of sugary packaged beverages through an interactive storytelling method at TK Aisyiyah 7, Magelang CityA total of 30 students participated in the activity, which involved pre- and post-assessment test using an interactive game-based questionnaire consisting of three short, image-supported questions related to the educational material to assess students’ knowledge before and after the intervention. An original storytelling session titled “The Adventure of the Brain, Kidney, and Bladder”, the use of educational puppets and visuals, and a health-themed sing-along. Results showed high engagement from children and improved knowledge retention as evidenced by increased post-test scores. The initiative successfully demonstrated that storytelling is an effective medium for early health education, fostering awareness of kidney health and promoting healthier beverage choices among young children.

Abstract

Risk behaviors among adolescents have become a serious concern in urban environments, including in Indonesia, due to their impact on physical and mental health as well as the future development of young generations. Several forms of risk behaviors commonly found among adolescents include premarital sexual activity, exposure to sexual-orientation–related social pressures, drug abuse (NAPZA), alcohol consumption, smoking, physical violence or fighting, bullying, and self-harm behaviors. A lack of knowledge and understanding regarding the dangers and consequences of such behaviors increases adolescents’ vulnerability to engaging in them. This community service activity aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and awareness in preventing and avoiding risk behaviors in RW 08, Sidomulyo Timur Village, Pekanbaru City. The method used was interactive lectures and group discussions using PowerPoint media, accompanied by pre-test and post-test evaluation involving 27 adolescent respondents selected through simple random sampling. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge where, prior to the intervention, 16 respondents (59%) demonstrated low knowledge and 11 respondents (41%) demonstrated moderate knowledge. After the intervention, knowledge levels increased, with 24 respondents (89%) falling into the good category and 3 respondents (11%) in the moderate category. The 48% improvement indicates that health education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ understanding of risky behaviors and in promoting preventive efforts to support healthy growth and positive behavior among youth.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health problem with an increasing incidence rate each year. Prevention of mosquito bites can be carried out through various methods, one of which is the utilization of natural ingredients as an alternative mosquito repellent. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of residents in utilizing lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) as the main ingredient for producing eco-friendly aromatherapy candles as mosquito repellents. The methods used included health education, demonstration of candle-making, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The activity was conducted in RW 08 with a total of 25 participants. The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge, where before the intervention only 40% were in the good to excellent category, rising to 80% after the intervention. Participants demonstrated enthusiasm and were able to practice the candle-making process independently. In conclusion, this program effectively enhanced community knowledge and provided practical skills in utilizing natural ingredients as an alternative method to prevent mosquito bites and reduce DHF transmission.
