Abstract

This study aims to identify the factors influencing the participation of black female TVET students, using a case of a TVET college in Southern KZN. It adopts a human development approach to understand the capabilities, freedoms, and functionings available to black female students at this specific TVET college. The study was prompted by high dropout rates among black female TVET students and a disproportionate gender profile in skills programs. Furthermore, it contends that empowering black female students with capabilities allows them to express what they value and have gained from TVET colleges, not only in their current lives but also in their future lives. This is crucial for addressing the prevailing gender disparities in the country. The study was conducted using a descriptive case study design, and the data was gathered through semistructured interviews with final-year black female engineering and primary agriculture students at ABC (pseudonym) TVET College. The data was analyzed thematically, with data collection concluding after reaching saturation with ten participants. Surprisingly, the findings indicate that, in this particular college, the participation of black female students is not necessarily low. Therefore, gender no longer serves as a barrier to the participation of black female TVET students in skills programs at the college. Instead, the students effectively juggle their educational responsibilities with domestic chores while exerting considerable effort to participate and excel in their studies. This showcases women's ability to exercise agency despite facing constraints in their opportunities. The study recommends addressing the persistent societal perception that domestic chores are solely the responsibility of women to enhance women’s participation in their educational pursuits.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate economic learning in the implementation of an independent curriculum using the CIPP model in public high schools throughout the city of Mojokerto. The city of Mojokerto stands out as a city with active participation in the Independent Curriculum reaching 98%. The evaluative method is used with a qualitative approach supported by quantitative data. The results of the research show that the context aspect shows variations in the selection of Independent Policy Instruments (IKM), where SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 choose independent changing IKM, while SMAN 2 adopts independent sharing IKM. The integration of articles of the 1945 Constitution into class X economics learning outcomes aims to strengthen students' understanding of the principles of the country's economy and their application in everyday life. Evaluation of the input aspect consisting of teachers, students and infrastructure shows a sufficient level of effectiveness, reaching 68.27%. Teachers use the PMM platform to optimize learning, while students' interest in economics varies and school infrastructure needs to be improved to support more effective learning. In the process aspect, SMAN 2 stands out in implementing the self-sharing model in preparing teaching tools. However, there is variation in the quality of learning between schools, with a focus on developing teacher competence and active student participation. The effectiveness of the learning process reached an average of 75.43%, this shows the need to increase more varied teaching strategies and better interaction between teachers and students. Overall product evaluation in the form of learning outcomes shows an average of 78.33%, which indicates a sufficient level of effectiveness. This research can increase student motivation, material relevance, and consistency in assessing learning outcomes, achieving more optimal results per the objectives of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Indonesia, which is diverse in ethnicity and religion, needs nationalism to prevent racial conflict and maintain unity. Nationalism prioritizes loyalty to the country and transcends differences. Pancasila must be applied from an early age to shape the nationalism of the younger generation. Equitable education is a constitutional right, but many children of migrant workers in Malaysia face barriers to accessing education, requiring interventions to increase their motivation to learn. The service was carried out at PPWNI Klang, Malaysia, involving the collaboration of lecturers and students through learning assistance. The activity took place in January-February 2023 at the learning center. This descriptive qualitative research uses interviews, observations, and documentation to describe the strategy of internalizing religious moral values in learning, providing an evaluation for the next service program. The number of students at PPWNI Klang is large, but only two teachers teach, with five limited classrooms. Learning activities are held in two sessions. The role of teachers is very important in building the spirit of nationalism by teaching moral values, providing positive examples, and using various learning methods to develop students' nationalist attitudes, despite constraints in facilities and infrastructure. Research shows that at PPWNI Klang, Malaysia, the number of students is not proportional to the number of teachers who are only two people, and classrooms are limited. Nevertheless, teachers play an important role in building the spirit of nationalism through real examples, mutual respect, tolerance, and cooperation.
