Abstract

Lifelong education is a fundamental concept in Islam, rooted in both the Qur’an and the Hadith. Islam regards the pursuit of knowledge as a lifelong obligation for every believer. This study aims to analyze the meaning of lifelong learning in Islamic teachings and its relevance to modern educational frameworks. Using a qualitative literature review approach, this research explores key Qur’anic verses such as Al-‘Alaq:1–5, Ṭāhā:114, and Al-Mujādilah:11, along with prophetic traditions emphasizing continuous learning. The findings reveal that Islam promotes ongoing self-development encompassing spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social dimensions. This aligns closely with UNESCO’s lifelong learning paradigm. Thus, lifelong education in Islam is not only a modern necessity but also an inherent principle of Islamic doctrine guiding humans toward holistic excellence (insān kāmil).

Abstract

In contemporary educational curricula, the transformation of Islamic values represents a strategic effort to integrate religious principles into formal education. Schools must preserve their religious identity while preparing students to face the challenges of globalization and rapid technological advancement. This study investigates how Islamic values can be incorporated and implemented within the curriculum to develop a generation that is not only academically intelligent. Islam also emphasizes the importance of building strong and noble character as the fundamental basis for living a meaningful life. This research examines several curriculum models that have successfully integrated Islamic values. The study employs a qualitative approach. The findings reveal that applying principles such as justice, tolerance, and cooperation into learning activities can enhance students’ motivation and desire to learn. Moreover, the success of this transformation greatly depends on collaboration between educators, parents, and the community. Therefore, a curriculum grounded in Islamic values not only provides students with education but also teaches them good ethics and morality. According to this study, existing curricula should be modified and innovated to align with contemporary developments while maintaining the core values of Islamic teachings. Thus, Islamic education can serve as a strong foundation for shaping the character of future generations who are faithful and honest.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of religious leaders in fostering religious moderation in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), including the strategies, methods, and challenges encountered during the mentoring process. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with research subjects consisting of kiai, ustadz, pesantren administrators, and students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The findings indicate that religious leaders play a strategic role as educators, spiritual mentors, conflict mediators, and moral exemplars for students. The cultivation of religious moderation is carried out through exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah), teaching of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning), dialogical discussions, thematic lectures, and social community activities. Religious leaders actively instill values of tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), tawasuth (moderation), and i’tidal (justice), enabling students to understand differences, appreciate diversity, and internalize a moderate attitude in their daily lives.
