Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aims to enhance the Mastery of Comprehensive Qualitative Research Methodology (MCQRM) among Sociology students. The goal is to equip students with systematic thinking steps involving philosophy, paradigm, object of study, theory, method, statistics, case examples, and addressing real problems and solutions. The research adopts a deconstruction approach, using the model of Eid al-Fitr greetings as its substance. The participants are 26 Sociology students enrolled in the Qualitative Research Method course. Data was collected through surveys using Google Forms twice during sessions from the 9th to the 15th meeting. Responses from the first form were compared with those from the second form. The differences between them were then interpreted as indicators of changes in the mastery of comprehensive thinking steps resulting from the learning treatment. The data were analyzed using analytical descriptive statistics in SPSS software. The results show a significant improvement in the overall mastery of qualitative research methodology, with a positive change of 30.8%. Improvement is also evident in method mastery at 38.5% and statistical mastery at 11.5%. The students successfully construct comprehensive thinking steps, ranging from post-positivism philosophy to the application of social definition and social behavior paradigms. They can understand the object of sociological study in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions, integrating Action and Social Exchange theories, Qualitative Research Methods, and descriptive statistics. Through this understanding, students can present a fluent thought process from various philosophical perspectives and in solving real-world problems.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically altered people’s lives, including university education. COVID-19 has significantly impacted the transition from offline to online learning. Furthermore, education in Indonesia must be able to accelerate education 4.0. The learning system is carried out remotely using information technology. There will be numerous major challenges in implementing the online learning model. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Universitas Islam 45 needed to assess student satisfaction with online learning to maintain service quality. This study aimed to assess student satisfaction during online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic using the Service Quality (Servqual) and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) methods. Servqual and IPA are methods for measuring customer satisfaction and service quality. According to the Servqual results, all 17 measurements have a negative gap value. This demonstrates a gap between students’ perceptions and expectations of online learning. The IPA Matrix indicates the priority of improving online-based learning, which includes responding quickly and efficiently to students’ needs in online-based learning, encouraging students’ motivation throughout the learning process, and understanding students’ impediments during the process of online-based learning.

Abstract

This research is driven by developments in the world of work and industry in Indonesia, which absorb fewer university graduates than they need because the graduates do not learn a lot of vocational skill competencies. Developing a higher education curriculum that suits the needs of the industry could address this issue. The gap between higher education and industry manpower needs could be attributed to 1) the absence of a framework that creates an understanding between industry and higher education to develop manpower relevant to industry optimally; 2) the main resource persons are only invited to universities to explain material for a limited period; 3) the facilities and infrastructure in universities do not represent the needs of companies or industries; and 4) the working climate has not yet fully occurred in universities, which are different from what is in the company. This research is an exploratory study that tries to collect and formulate an analysis based on the information collected. The research uses a qualitative approach using case studies and documentation studies. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Universitas Islam Syekh-Yusuf curriculum has been going well, following the applicable curriculum preparation regulations. In general, there are several stages in preparing the study program curriculum. These stages are divided into three important stages: the curriculum design stage, the learning design stage, and the learning program evaluation stage. The university has also established partnerships with other companies/organizations in fieldwork practice activities. This supports the development of student experience competencies compared to classroom learning alone. After analyzing the findings in the field with related theories, this research provides suggestions that are expected to be useful for several parties. Universities must find other learning resources for students to be relevant to the company’s needs. Universities need to establish many more partnerships with companies/institutions/organizations to become a place for fieldwork practices for their students so that student competencies will be more developed with a picture of the real job. Education and training are needed for lecturers to develop a curriculum based on applicable regulations that are relevant to global demands. There is a need for further studies to examine the effectiveness of implementing a curriculum based on the business world and the industrial world.

Abstract

Indonesia ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and enacted Laws that provide for the right to justice and legal protection for persons with mental disabilities, including the right to own and inherit a legacy. Paradoxically, the same laws legalize actions that undermine their rights. This study examines the legal protection accorded to persons with mental/intellectual disabilities over their inheritance rights as per the Indonesian three-pronged inheritance laws comprising Islamic law, adat law and the civil code. This research is descriptive, using a normative approach with a measure of doctrinal research. Indonesian laws still provide for substituted decision-making for persons with mental disabilities, which legalizes denying their right to legal agency. Ambiguities abound in the laws on important aspects, like how one is declared incapable of making legal decisions. Supported decision-making mechanisms for persons with mental disabilities in Indonesian laws would provide the basis for setting up support centers where persons with mental disabilities can access the necessary support to enable them to make legal decisions. This study can be useful in addressing issues that infringe on the legal rights and protections of people with mental disabilities.

Abstract

The creative industry is expected to drive economic growth in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic. Abundant local materials and skilled human resources are two major strengths that need to be optimally managed to increase the selling value of design products. The pandemic has significantly impacted the welfare of furniture and handicraft artisans in Java. This paper aims to demonstrate the process and role of interior product designers (IPDs) in improving the socio-economic welfare of artisans after the pandemic. IPDs collaborated with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), artisans, private entrepreneurs, governments, exporters, and associations to deal with vulnerabilities after the pandemic to achieve the development of policies and strategies toward sustainable community welfare. This IPDs role mainly focused on utilizing water hyacinth and rattan as the material for interior products to be accepted in local and global markets. The IPDs faced challenges in collaboration and unification of aspirations and interests between each party. The research used Kelley’s design thinking method, implementing the empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test stages. The latest information on commodities produced by SME artisans, the existing advantages and disadvantages, and in-depth studies of developing market issues in Indonesia, Asia, and Europe were explored. The resulting design was then adjusted to the availability of raw materials, the production capabilities of the artisan, as well as the support of tools and technology used. The production process involved the government and industrial assistance in supporting the needs of machinery and production technology. Market tests at home country and abroad were conducted to determine the market response to the product. With a good market response, it is hoped that there will be policy development from the government and industry associations to support joint work to achieve a strategy for the socio-economic welfare of the community, especially groups of artisans.
