Abstract

Sewage pollution originating from the activities of shrimp farming companies in the Pasir Kuning Beach area raises serious concerns about its impact that damages the environment and disrupts the balance of the ecosystem. This research aims to understand and analyze the inclusiveness of social capital in local communities as an effort to prevent sewage pollution. Using a qualitative approach, this research conducted in-depth interviews with community members in the Pasir Kuning Beach Area. Respondents were selected based on criteria that ensured a balanced representation of various community groups, and secondary data was used to provide a broader context. The research findings highlight the central role of social capital in shaping relationships, trust, and cooperation among communities. The implications include developing more effective sewage pollution prevention strategies and providing a foundation for understanding community contributions to coastal ecosystem conservation. The focus on social capital inclusivity as a catalyst for positive change demonstrates the determination of local communities to overcome the negative impacts of shrimp farming activities. In the context of Bangka Belitung, which is affected by the mining sector, this research is significant in efforts to reduce environmental damage. It is hoped that these findings provide valuable insights for stakeholders in formulating sustainable solutions that support the ecology and well-being of local communities in the future.

Abstract

This study’s primary aim is to investigate globalization’s impact on nationalism in Indonesia, specifically focusing on the youth population. The research seeks to understand how globalization influences nationalist sentiments, particularly in the context of the Indonesian educational system. The chosen methodology centers around implementing a Civic Education learning model, aiming to activate and enhance nationalism values among students. The research employs a structured approach, utilizing a test on nationalism knowledge administered before and after implementing the Civic Education learning model. This method allows for a comprehensive assessment of the potential impact of the learning model on students’ understanding of nationalism. The analysis involves measuring the mean score difference between pre-test and post-tests, employing statistical calculations such as mean difference, the standard deviation of the difference, the standard error of the mean difference, and calculated t-values. Additionally, behavioral-scale tests are conducted to evaluate the mean score difference in students’ nationalism behavior. Quantitative calculations and analyses are employed to substantiate the research hypothesis. The statistical findings indicate a significant influence of the Civic Education learning model on students’ knowledge of nationalism and behavior. The mean score differences before and after the model’s implementation and the calculated t-values provide robust evidence of the positive impact on students’ nationalist sentiments. The study extends its contribution to pedagogy by demonstrating the efficacy of alternative teaching methods, specifically in Civic Education. The findings suggest that implementing the Civic Education learning model enhances practical application and holds promise in strengthening Indonesia’s global influence. The research aligns with established concepts of nationalism, emphasizing the actualization of patriotism through the collective development of clear national goals and objectives. The study aims to contribute meaningful insights to the ongoing discourse on nationalism in Indonesia, particularly among the youth.

Abstract

Indonesia has abundant natural resources, including valuable diamonds, greatly impacting its mining industry, economy, and other environmental and societal sectors. This research, conducted in Sungai Tiung Village, Cempaka Sub-district, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, explores how the use of natural resources, economic activities, and community resilience are interconnected by examining the enduring traditional mining practices in South Kalimantan, focusing specifically on diamond panning. Using qualitative research methods, this research collected comprehensive data through observations, interviews, and documentation involving key stakeholders such as miners, local communities, and government representatives. The analysis, which incorporates triangulation and expanded observations, reveals three key aspects of traditional mining patterns: the equipment used, the complexities of the work system, and how mining outcomes are shared. The findings highlight the resilience embedded in the traditional mining practices of diamond prospectors in South Kalimantan, showing how these practices influence work methods and reflect traditional community life, characterized by a cooperative and tolerant approach. As a result, this research deepens our understanding of diamond panning. It provides valuable insights into the relationship between traditional practices and the resilience of local communities on a broader scale.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of board gender diversity on tax avoidance, with ESG performance as an intervening variable. Using 87 non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) with ESG scores from Thomson-Reuters ASSET4 during the 2017-2019 period, the study reveals that board gender diversity significantly influences tax avoidance, indicating that diversity does not improve tax compliance. The male-dominated boards in Indonesia limit the effectiveness of monitoring corporate activities, including tax avoidance. Additionally, gender diversity negatively affects ESG performance, suggesting that the small number of women on boards diminishes efforts to enhance sustainability. ESG performance does not mediate the relationship between gender diversity and tax avoidance, though it can reduce tax avoidance when transparency in ESG reporting is increased. Limitations include a small sample size and data restricted to the 2017-2019. Future studies could explore alternative tax avoidance measures and other corporate governance factors.

Abstract

The One Pesantren One Product (OPOP) program aims to foster self-reliance within the community, including Islamic boarding schools, students, and the public. Its goal is to enable economic and social independence, enhancing skills, production technology, distribution, and marketing through innovative and strategic approaches. The program is designed to support Islamic boarding schools in achieving self-sufficiency and as a catalyst for tourism development in the region. Belitung Regency hosts several longstanding Islamic boarding schools, predating the establishment of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. Through the OPOP Program, these institutions are envisioned to play a significant role in the region’s tourism development, contributing to economic growth. This research seeks to describe and analyze the effectiveness of the OPOP Program in supporting the economic empowerment of Islamic boarding schools in Belitung Regency. Conducted over a year, the research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing purposive sampling techniques to select data sources, including Islamic boarding school administrators, teachers, and students. Data collection methods encompass interviews, observations, and documentary studies. The findings reveal that the Islamic boarding school cooperatives function as business units directly subordinate to the schools, akin to other commercial entities. Enhancement efforts are identified in marketing strategies, training initiatives, and internships. Media assistance and engagement with religious community organizations are essential for effective marketing. At the same time, collaboration with governmental and private sector entities is crucial for training and internship programs, ensuring alignment between participants’ business domains and their internship placements.

Abstract

The development of sustainable ecotourism on Gili Iyang Island, known for its high oxygen levels and unique local culture, requires collaboration among diverse stakeholders through effective governance networks. This study investigates the roles and contributions of key stakeholders—including the Sumenep District Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office (Dinas Pariwisata, Kebudayaan, Pemuda, dan Olahraga Kabupaten Sumenep or Disparbudpora), the Andang Taruna Tourism Awareness Group (Kelompok Sadar Wisata Andang Taruna or Pokdarwis), village governments, and local communities—in developing ecotourism on Gili Iyang Island, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Findings show that governance networks are crucial in enhancing community empowerment, building local capacity, and improving infrastructure to support ecotourism. Nevertheless, challenges remain, including limited resources, conflicts between villages, and minimal private-sector engagement. Strengthening Pokdarwis’ managerial capacity, fostering inter-community synergies, and attracting private sector involvement are identified as essential strategies to ensure sustainable ecotourism. This research contributes to the broader literature on collaborative governance in remote island ecotourism, offering practical insights for policymakers and stakeholders aiming to create resilient, community-driven tourism initiatives that can be adapted to similar island settings.

Abstract

This research explores human rights violations in Papua, focusing on the feasibility of international troop deployment as an intervention strategy against a backdrop of severe abuses such as extrajudicial killings and arbitrary arrests documented by organizations such as Amnesty International. The study aims to assess the potential role of international troops in safeguarding human rights and maintaining peace, using a qualitative methodology to analyze secondary data from human rights organizations and governmental sources to identify trends and challenges. The main contributions include highlighting gaps in existing interventions, proposing a conceptual framework for international troop deployment that considers legal, political, and ethical dimensions, and contextualizing issues of state sovereignty and regional diplomacy within the ASEAN framework. Specific findings indicate that while international troop deployment could enhance civilian protection and accountability, it faces significant barriers, including legal constraints related to international law, political resistance from local authorities and neighboring states, and ethical concerns such as the risk of escalating violence and undermining local governance. The study concludes by suggesting a balanced approach emphasizing dialogue, sustainable development, and cooperation within ASEAN to address human rights issues in Papua effectively.

Abstract

In response to the challenges of globalization and the need to increase financial flexibility, many state universities (PTN) in Indonesia have chosen to transition to becoming public service agencies (BLU). This step is expected to provide greater autonomy in financial and resource management while increasing the competitiveness of institutions. This study aims to analyze PTN’s financial management strategy for transitioning to BLU status using a case study at Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB). The research approach used is qualitative descriptive with the SWOT analysis method to evaluate internal and external factors influencing the transition process. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation studies, and observations of financial policies and practices at UBB. The research results revealed that the transition to BLU offers significant flexibility in financial management, allowing UBB to be more independent in using non-tax state revenue (PNBP). This directly contributes to improving operational efficiency and institutional competitiveness. However, several major challenges must be addressed, such as limited infrastructure, lack of highly qualified teaching staff, and competition with other state universities with BLU or PTN-BH status. This study also found that the greatest opportunities for Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB) lie in optimizing assets and expanding industrial cooperation, primarily through the Kampus Merdeka program. In conclusion, UBB can leverage its BLU status to enhance the institution’s competitiveness by implementing more flexible financial management, but it requires a clear strategy to tackle internal challenges. Recommendations include increasing the teaching staff’s capacity, optimizing assets, and developing strategic partnerships with industry.
