Abstract

This Study aims to comprehensively examine how the process of gender socialization within the family works to reproduce and internalize gender inequalities in individuals in early adulthood. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study involved 12 informants selected through purposive sampling based on birth order and gender. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that gender socialization occurs through advice, rules, and behavioral examples, with the mother serving as the most dominant agent of socialization. Significant disparities are evident in the heavier domestic workload borne by women and the more flexible social control and permissions granted to men, which are often normalized as acceptable. Although there is room for negotiation, most of these values remain internalized as part of one’s identity. In conclusion, socialization within the family consistently reproduces gender inequality by normalizing traditional roles as a habitus; therefore, efforts to deconstruct patriarchal culture within family education are necessary.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the high incidence of domestic violence, which reflects dysfunction within the family as a fundamental social unit. The objective of this research is to analyze the impact of domestic violence on children as a form of family dysfunction and to examine the role and challenges of women and child protection institutions in addressing these issues. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving informants from relevant institutions, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that domestic violence has significant physical and psychological impacts on victims, particularly children, and hinders character development and socialization processes. Protection institutions play a crucial role as a social response by substituting dysfunctional family roles; however, they still face various challenges, including victim-related factors, social stigma, and limited facilities. This study highlights the importance of strengthening institutional roles and adopting a comprehensive approach to effectively address domestic violence and maintain social system stability..

Abstract

Parental burnout has emerged as a critical issue among Generation Z parents in the context of increasing caregiving demands, economic pressures, and modern parenting expectations. This study aims to synthesize empirical and conceptual evidence on the impact of parental burnout on parent and child relationships among Generation Z parents. A Narrative Literature Review (NLR) was conducted by examining peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus published between 2021 and 2026. The literature was thematically analyzed to identify major patterns, psychological mechanisms, protective factors, and demographic and cultural contexts shaping the experience of burnout. The synthesis indicates that parental burnout is significantly associated with increased parent and child conflict, reduced emotional intimacy, and diminished family cohesion, with a bidirectional and self-reinforcing relationship between caregiving exhaustion and relational difficulties. The effects of burnout are mediated by emotional exhaustion, harsh parenting, low parental empathy, and impaired emotion regulation, whereas adaptive emotion regulation, coparenting quality, social support, and family resilience function as protective factors. Gender differences moderate both the experience and consequences of burnout, with mothers experiencing greater emotional impacts and paternal burnout being more closely linked to children’s psychological well-being. Personality traits, socioeconomic conditions, individualistic cultural orientations, and urban living further contribute to variations in burnout among Generation Z parents. Overall, parental burnout among Generation Z parents represents a dynamic and transactional process shaped by the interaction of emotional, behavioral, personality, and contextual factors, underscoring the need for multidimensional and gender-sensitive interventions to break the burnout–conflict cycle and safeguard children’s emotional well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the shift in the meaning of marriage from a traditional obligation to personal freedom and its implications for family well-being in the modern era. This phenomenon arises as a result of social change, globalization, and increasing individual awareness in making life choices. This research employs a literature review approach by examining various relevant scientific sources published within the last decade. The findings indicate that marriages based on individual choice tend to produce a higher quality of life compared to conventional models driven by social pressure. This is reflected in three main indicators: psychological well-being, financial stability, and the quality of child-rearing. From a psychological perspective, couples who marry based on personal choice tend to have higher levels of life satisfaction and resilience. From a financial perspective, economic readiness prior to marriage contributes to reducing household conflicts. Meanwhile, in terms of parenting, conscious and voluntary marriages lead to healthier and more well-planned parenting patterns. Therefore, this study emphasizes that freedom of choice in marriage is not merely a form of individualism, but rather a crucial foundation for building family resilience and well-being amid modern social dynamics

Abstract

This study aims to understand the role of the family as a social support system for students living away from home, with an emphasis on the quality of the bond between students and their parents. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method among Sociology students at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with students living away from home and their parents, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that families provide various forms of social support, such as emotional, instrumental, informational, and appreciative support. However, the quality of the bond between students and their parents varies, which influences how this support is perceived. Students with strong relationships feel the support more acutely, while less close relationships make the support feel less tangible, even though it is still provided. These findings suggest that the quality of the bond plays a crucial role in determining how strongly social support is felt by students living away from home.

Abstract

The weakening internalization of social values and norms among university students demonstrates the crucial role of the family as the primary environment in character formation. The family plays a key role as a primary socialization agent, shaping an individual's attitudes, behavior, and ability to interact in the social environment. This study aims to analyze the role of family parenting styles in the formation of social norms among Sociology students, Class of 2023, at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that democratic parenting styles tend to produce students with discipline, responsibility, good communication skills, and greater adaptability to social environments. Meanwhile, permissive parenting styles tend to lead to less controlled behavior and a weak awareness of social norms. The findings of this study demonstrate that family parenting styles have a significant influence on the formation of students' social norms and the development of social character in campus life.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding (ASI) for the first six months of a baby’s life is a fundamentalhealth intervention recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Thesuccess of the breastfeeding process is crucial for the optimal health and developmentof the infant, as breast milk not only provides complete nutrition but also essentialantibodies. Breast milk production is influenced by various factors, includingphysiological conditions, such as the balance of the hormones prolactin and oxytocin,as well as psychological factors like stress and fatigue. Among these various factors, physical activity performed by mothers during the breastfeeding period plays as significant role, although the perception regarding its effect remains diverse among thepublic. This study aims to comprehensively describe the influence of physical activityon breast milk production in nursing mothers. The method used is descriptive qualitative through a literature review of various relevant scientific books and journals. The review results indicate that light to moderate intensity physical activity significantly supports the increase in breast milk production. This benefit is achieved through several mechanisms, including improved blood circulation throughout the body, including the breasts, which optimizes the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the mammary glands. Furthermore, regular physical activity helps balance the hormones prolactin (which stimulates milk synthesis) and oxytocin (which plays a role in the milk ejection reflex). From a psychological perspective, physical activity is proven effective in reducing levels of stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression. This stable psychological condition is crucial because stress is known to inhibit breast milk production. Conversely, excessive physical activity can have a negative impact by causing exhaustion, dehydration, and a reduction in energy reserves, which can ultimately decrease the volume of breast milk. Therefore, nursing mothers are advised to choose physical activities such as walking, light aerobics, or yoga, and to adjust the intensity to their body's capacity. Education and guidance from health professionals are needed to ensure that nursing mothers understand the benefits and limitations of physical activity correctly.
