Abstract

Hysterectomy is a procedure performed to remove the uterus, either partially or completely. This surgery often causes psychological responses in the form of anxiety. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to overcome anxiety is Benson relaxation. The design used in this Final Nursing Scientific Paper is a case study using Benson relaxation intervention. Three respondents participated, and the intervention was carried out for two days preoperatively with three sessions, taking place in the Lukas Charitas Hospital Palembang room. After two days of Benson relaxation, changes in anxiety scores were obtained using the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. At the final meeting, Mrs. E's anxiety decreased from 18 to 10, Mrs. H's from 16 to 7, and Mrs. S's from 13 to 7. There was a decrease in anxiety before and after Benson relaxation therapy was administered to all three respondents. The implementation of this EBP is expected to provide additional information regarding the provision of Benson relaxation in preoperative hysterectomy patients.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants are a group of neonates who are highly susceptible to thermoregulation disorders, particularly hypothermia, due to limited subcutaneous fat reserves, a relatively large body surface area, and the immaturity of the temperature regulation system. Untreated hypothermia can lead to serious complications such as hypoxia, sepsis, hypoglycemia, apnea, and failure to gain weight, which ultimately contribute to increased neonatal morbidity and mortality. One of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions that can be used to prevent hypothermia is nesting care, a positioning technique using supportive materials to create a comfortable environment that resembles the intrauterine position. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of nesting care in LBW infants as an  effort to increase body temperature in infants experiencing hypothermia. The method used was a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach involving three participants. The intervention consisted of nesting care administered for three days, with a duration of 30 minutes once daily using the quarter-prone or semi-prone position. The results showed that after the nesting intervention, two out of three participants experienced an increase in body temperature approaching normal values on the third day. Improvement in the infants' condition was also indicated by reduced crying and longer periods of calm sleep compared to the condition before the intervention. Body temperature measurements and observations of the infants’ condition were conducted periodically to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, with an average temperature increase of approximately 0.2°C at the end of the intervention. In conclusion, nesting care can be used as an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help increase body temperature in LBW infants experiencing hypothermia.

Abstract

The development of information technology has driven an increase in self-diagnosis behavior, especially among the productive-age population with broad access to the Internet. This phenomenon has the potential to result in inaccurate health assessments and influence health-related decision making. This study aimed to describe self-diagnosis behavior, motivations, patterns of seeking health information online, consequences after performing self-diagnosis, and the level of health literacy among people aged 18-44 in the Tataran 1 area. This research uses a quantitative descriptive design with a survey method through questionnaires given to 60 respondents in the company. The results show that the majority of respondents are female, aged 35-44, and have a high school level education. Some respondents were not motivated to perform self-diagnosis, and the level of seeking health information online was considered low to moderate. Nevertheless, nearly half of the respondents still took follow-up actions after performing self-diagnosis. The majority of respondents had a moderate level of health literacy, so the ability to understand and evaluate health information still needs to be improved. These findings underscore the importance of digital health literacy education so that the public can accurately sort medical information and reduce the risk of mistreatment due to self-diagnosis of the disease.
