Abstract

There have been a long cry of marginalization from the majority people in the Southeast political zone of Nigeria who are largely Igbos. This cry has been expressed through various ways ranging from a demand for a Biafra Republic and a demand for an Igbo presidency. With various attempts made to actualize this goal failing, many youths from the zone have resorted to self help which is threatening the already precarious security situation we have in the country. This paper undertakes an in-depth analysis of the Igbo political communication strategy, identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) that have hindered progress towards an Igbo presidency. The paper identified; Ineffective communication strategies, tribal and identity based political messages, lack of political co-ordination and lack of strategic partnership among other issues as the major challenges of the Igbo political communication approach. The paper concluded that the absence of a clear, well-defined message has resulted in confusion and mistrust among potential allies and supporters and the time has come for the Igbo community to revaluate and restrategize its political communication approach by adopting a more effective communication strategy, so as to increase its chances of achieving an Igbo presidency and promoting a more inclusive, and peaceful Nigeria.

Abstract

E-leadership practices in developed countries are employed for leadership in business and industry which is an applicable system that is advantageous for leaders and employers to connect simply through technology. However, e-leadership practices in higher education, specifically in developing countries, need further investigation. To gain insight into this gap in e-leadership practices in higher education, this systematic review will search and analyze e-leadership practices from developed to developing countries in different disciplines with different methodologies which have implications for higher education. For this systematic review, the databases GOOGLE SCHOLAR, PUBMED and IEEE XPLORE will be utilized. Articles published in the English language that focus on e-leadership practices in different disciplines will be eligible. The evidence will be searched and data will be extracted on the similarities and differences between e-leadership practices in previous research. Indicating the searched evidence in methodology, geography, and discipline will determine how many e-leadership practices exist. I will ensure that all articles are checked and address e-leadership practices in different disciplines and contexts to provide vital ideas and implications for higher educations.

Abstract

Traditional and religious beliefs are essential in mental health discourse and help-seeking behaviour. The study explored the impact of traditional and religious beliefs on mental illness and help-seeking behaviour, in Ife Central LGA. The Health Belief Model (HBM) was adopted as the theoretical framework for the study. The study used a phenomenology research design. Qualitative data was collected from 12 key informants who were purposely selected for the study. The data was analyzed while outlining the key point presented by the key informant. The study revealed that stigma and discrimination are often associated with mental illness and help-seeking behaviour in Ife Central LGA. Mental illness is widely stigmatized and misunderstood. The study also revealed that perceived causes of mental illness include drug abuse, possession by evil spirits, inherited through the family, and punishment from God. The study concluded that misconceptions about the causes of mental illness might consequently lead to misconceptions about treatment. Religious and traditional beliefs in supernatural causes and remedies of mental illnesses influence people’s knowledge and attitudes towards mental illness and help-seeking behaviour. The study recommends the decentralization of mental health care services from urban areas down to rural health centres where mental health services can be rendered with psychiatric services as well. There is a need for community education of the people on the causes of mental illness. It is due to ignorance that most people wrongly believe that mental illness must have some spiritual undertone.

Abstract

The rapid socio-economic changes in emerging economies demand integrating educational technologies to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for the globalized economy. The successful adoption of these technologies relies on effective innovation management, which must address challenges such as limited infrastructure and varying technological literacy levels. This research investigates the role of innovation management in facilitating the adoption of educational technologies in emerging economies. It aims to identify strategies to overcome barriers to technology integration in education and analyze their impact on academic outcomes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from global databases such as the World Bank's EdStats and UNESCO's Institute for Statistics with qualitative insights from interviews and case studies in selected emerging economies, including India, Kenya, Brazil, and Nigeria. Statistical analyses revealed a positive correlation between the Innovation Support Index and the Educational Technology Adoption Rate. For instance, India and Brazil demonstrated higher adoption rates (78% and 80%, respectively) corresponding to robust innovation support systems. In contrast, countries with lower innovation indices, like Nigeria, showed significantly lower adoption rates (50%). The study concludes that strategic innovation management is critical for driving the successful adoption of educational technologies in emerging economies. It emphasizes the need for policymakers and academic leaders to prioritize the development of innovation support systems to foster a conducive environment for technology integration. Strengthening innovation support systems significantly enhances the adoption of educational technologies, offering a pathway to improved educational equity and economic growth in these regions.

Abstract

The tourism sector in Jos, Plateau State, which was once a key driver of economic growth and local development, has experienced a severe decline due to the persistent insecurity in the state. This study examines the effect of insecurity on tourism activities in Jos, Plateau state. The study used a descriptive, cross-sectional survey research design. A sample size of 400 respondents was selected from the total population of 1,260,200 using the Tare Yamane formula. Questionnaires were distributed to 400 randomly selected respondents across Jos North, Jos South, and Jos East LGA. Interviews were also conducted with six key informants to complement the data gathered from the questionnaires. Responses from the questionnaires were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages while quantitative data were analysed while outlining the key point presented by the key informant. The study revealed that insecurity in Jos has significantly affected tourism activities. Major effects include a decline in foreign investment, widespread unemployment, reduced patronage of tourist centres, and diminished state revenue. Insecurity also deters foreign investors, disrupts livelihoods in the tourism sector, and tarnishes Jos's reputation as a tourist destination. The study recommended that drones and CCTV cameras are examples of advanced technologies that should be used to provide real-time surveillance to identify and discourage criminal activity within the State.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and the use of formative tests designed to assess Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) on students' critical thinking abilities. A quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design was used, involving two groups: the experimental group employing the PBL model and the control group using traditional teaching methods. Data were gathered through oral and essay tests to evaluate students' critical thinking skills. The findings indicate that the PBL model has a significant positive effect on improving students' critical thinking. Moreover, the use of HOTS-based formative tests was found to significantly enhance students' critical thinking abilities. The combination of the learning model and the type of formative test produced the most considerable improvement in critical thinking skills within the experimental group. The study recommends that teachers expand the use of the PBL model and incorporate HOTS-based assessments to foster critical thinking, which is vital for preparing students to tackle global challenges.
