Abstract

Fish scales are the result of fishing activities that are simply thrown away. Fish scales that are thrown away can become waste which has a negative impact on the environment. Crab shells are a problem that needs to be solved. One use of crab shell waste is processing it into chitosan. The aim of this research is to find out how to make chitosan from waste fish scales and crab shells, calculate the yield and water content, and then the method used to make chitosan from waste fish scales and crab shells including the stages of deproteinization, demineralization, and deacetylation. The differences in chitosan synthesis from waste fish scales and crab shells mainly depend on the extraction time, temperature, and concentration of NaOH and differences in the texture of the waste samples used. The results obtained are chitosan from fish scales and crab shells. Chitosan was obtained from waste fish scales (25.33-29.33%) and chitosan from crab shells (50%). From the research carried out it can be concluded that waste fish scales and crab shells can be converted into chitosan, the FT-IR results of chitosan from fish scales, crab shells, and commercial have different results, crab shell chitosan has better FT-IR results than commercial chitosan and fish scales.

Abstract

Red tilapia is widely favored by Indonesians due to its resemblance to red snapper in terms of texture and flavor. One of the products made from tilapia is skin-on tilapia fillets, which are known for their high nutritional content, particularly in terms of protein and fat. However, a drawback is that its quality deteriorates rapidly. One approach to minimizing bacterial growth is through the addition of natural preservatives. When salt is added to rice water and allowed to ferment, lactic acid is produced, which possesses antibacterial properties that help slow bacterial growth. This study aims to identify the optimal salt concentration in fermented rice water for extending the shelf life of red tilapia fillets, based on their organoleptic qualities under cold storage conditions (5°-10°C). An experimental method was used, involving four treatments: soaking the tilapia fillets for 30 minutes in fermented rice water with varying salt concentrations (0%, 2%, 3%, 4%) over a 12-day period, with evaluations by five trained panelists. The findings indicated that immersion in fermented rice water influenced the shelf life of red tilapia fillets, as assessed through organoleptic criteria. The fermented solution maintained the aroma, texture, and slime quality until day 9, and preserved the visual appearance until day 10. From these results, it can be concluded that using fermented rice water with a 3% salt concentration is the most effective in preserving the freshness of red tilapia fillets under low-temperature storage (5°C-10°C).

Abstract

Samboja beach is one of the coastal areas in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which has various fisheries and marine resources such as macrozoobenthos. One of the ecological functions of macrozoobenthos is that it is a biological bioindicator in the waters and transfers energy in the food chain. This study aims to determine the type and abundance of macrozoobenthos, sediment texture type, organic carbon, nitrate and phosphate content, sediment type and abundance of macrozoobenthos at Tanah Merah Beach Samboja. Sediment samples were taken at the surface (0-10 cm) by placing quadrant plots on a 120 m long transect line (50x50 cm²). 50 macrozoobenthos species were found, consisting of Gastropoda, Bivalvia and Schapopoda. Macrozoobenthos abundance ranged from 60 to 268 ind/m2. Sequential ecological indices of diversity included the medium category with high uniformity and low dominance. The sediment texture at points near the coast was sandy loam while towards the sea textured sand. Sediment content in organic carbon ranged from 0.41% to 1.18% (very low), nitrate between 6.63 and 16.69 mg/L (high) and phosphate from 29.01 to 71.27 mg/L (high). There was a positive relationship with a moderate correlation between organic carbon and macrozoobenthos abundance. The relationship between nitrate and macrozoobenthos abundance was a low correlation. In contrast, a positive correlation was found between phosphate and macrozoobenthos abundance. Water quality is still normal and supports the survival of macrozoobenthos.

Abstract

Seed quality and feed quality are major issues in fish and shrimp farming.  Infusoria is a natural microorganism as feed for fish and shrimp larvae, infusoria need a nutrient-rich environment to grow and develop. This study aims to determine the impact of giving Jakaba mushrooms with different doses on the content of important nutrients such as nitrites, nitrates, and phosphates in infusoria cultivation. This research will be carried out at the Integrated Fisheries Laboratory of Bosowa University in February 2024. This study used the quantitative experimental method Complete Randomized Design (RAL) with three treatments and three repeats. Infusoria sp with a density of 1.2 x 105 individuals / liter is maintained in a container with a volume of 1.5 liters filled with water used for fish maintenance. The process of making Jakaba mushrooms is by breeding the finished Jakaba mushrooms into leri water, then fermented for approximately fourteen days. The application of Jakaba mushroom fertilizer is carried out on the seventh day after the Infusoria culture is carried out according to the treatment dose, namely:: treatment A (15 ml/ liter); B (20 ml/ liter and C (25 ml/ liter). The results showed that giving Jakaba mushrooms with a dose of treatment C (25 ml / 1 liter) resulted in nitrite, nitrate levels of 0.334 ppm, 0.632 ppm and 0.334 ppm respectively.

Abstract

Batu Belubang Beach has abundant biological resources of Darah Mussels (Anadara granosa) and Kepah Mussels (Meretrix meretrix) in season. On the other hand, Batu Belubang waters are a post-tin mining area, therefore it is a concern for people to consume shellfish from the area. This concern is caused by the results of previous studies that said that post-tin mining areas left heavy metals, one of which was non-essential heavy metals such as Pb and Cu.  Therefore, this study aims to examine the heavy metal content of Cd and Pb in shellfish meat, and determine the condition of gill tissue and meat of Darah Mussels (Anadara granosa) and Kepah Mussels (Meretrix meretrix) from Batu Belubang. This research method is purposive sampling, and several analyses consisting of: analysis of heavy metals in sediment and meat, tissue observation from muscle/meat and gill histology. The results showed that the concentration of heavy metals Cd, Pb in sediment is still below the quality standard, this is due to the sediment texture at Batu Belubang Beach dominant with sand, so it has a low binding power to heavy metals. The concentration of heavy metals in meat is also still below quality standards, so it is still safe for consumption. This condition is also strengthened by the results of tissue observations that show the condition of the flesh and gill tissues has not been damaged. This condition shows that both shells have not experienced tissue disruption because the accumulation of heavy metals is still very low.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the growth of transgenic G6 mutiara catfish using a mixture of commercial feed and rebon shrimp meal with different ratios between treatments. This research was carried out in May-August 2023, in the Lab. Aquaculture Gd.4 Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. This research used the experimental method Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. Treatment in the form of a mixture of commercial feed and rebon shrimp meal with a ratio of 50:50 (A), a ratio of 65:35 (B) and a ratio of 80:20 (C) was given to G6 transgenic mutiara catfish and the control treatment (65:35 ratio) given to sangkuriang catfish (treatment B*). Maintenance was carried out for 56 days with feeding three times a day. The parameters observed included growth in absolute weight (Wg), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), and protein retention (RP) which were analyzed using Analysis of Varience with 95% confidence level if significantly different followed by Duncan's test using SigmaPlot 15.0 software. The research results showed that the addition of commercial feed and rebon shrimp flour with a ratio of (80:20) had an influence on growth performance as indicated by an increase in absolute weight gain (687,53 g), FCR (0,64), protein efficiency ratio (18,7) and protein retention (46,43%.) Water quality values during rearing were still within tolerable limits for the growth of G6 transgenic mutiara catfish.
