Abstract

Crab (Portunus pelagicus) is one of the economically important marine products produced from Indonesian coastal waters. Market demand for crab commodities continues to increase. Crab traps are a fishing tool that is very popular with fishermen for catching crab because this fishing tool is passive, cheap and easy to operate and selective for fish (environmentally friendly). Based on the above, bearing in mind the importance of efforts to improve the standard of living and welfare of fishermen, it is necessary to have a fishing business to make it more profitable and responsible. The aim of this research is to analyze the technical and financial aspects of the crab trap fishing business on Salemo Island in February and April 2018. This research uses a survey research method, with data collected using a questionnaire using a random sampling method for fishermen who operate crab traps. Based on the research results, technical aspects include the fishing ground for crab traps, which has muddy bottom topography. The fishing season in a year is the peak season in May–September, the normal season in March–April and the lean season in October–February. The production of catches by crab trap fishermen on Salemo Island, Pangkep Regency, ranges between 1.01 and 1.95 kg/trip/unit of fishing gear and 264 and 591 kg/year/unit of fishing gear. The average value of the R/C ratio for crab trap businesses is 1.26, so the crab trap business is feasible to develop.

Abstract

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) is one of the freshwater fish highly favored by fish farmers in Indonesia. The use of feed additives in fish diets to accelerate growth and enhance immunity has been widely practiced. Avocado is a natural plant known for its beneficial chemical compounds. This study aims to investigate the potential of avocado fruit and leaf extracts as feed additives for Nile tilapia. The Nile tilapia, with an average weight of 2.0 g/fish, were reared in 21 aquariums at a density of 16 fish/aquarium for 30 days. Avocado leaf and fruit extracts were mixed into the feed before being given to the fish. The study included seven treatments: avocado leaf extract at 5%, 10%, and 20% (DA5, DA10, and DA20), avocado fruit extract at 5%, 10%, and 20% (BA5, BA10, and BA20), and a control group without treatment (C). The final fish weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, and survival rate of Nile tilapia with avocado leaf and fruit extract treatments were higher compared to the control group. Conversely, the condition factor of fish without treatment was higher compared to those with treatments. Avocado fruit extract showed a more beneficial effect compared to avocado leaf extract. The use of higher doses of extracts demonstrated a better positive impact on Nile tilapia. Avocado fruit extract at a dose of 20% showed the best results for application in aquaculture activities.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in types and percentage coverage of macroalgae and analyze the correlation between the percentage coverage of macroalgal types and oceanographic conditions in the coral reef ecosystem of Lae-lae Island and Barranglompo Island. The study was conducted on November 20, 2011. The sampling technique followed a 50-meter long transect line perpendicular to the coastline. The estimation of macroalgal coverage used the method developed by English (1994), using a 1 x 1 meter plot and a 25 x 25 cm grid, with categories for each grid using a ¼, ½, ¾, and 1 unit scale. Two-Way ANOVA was performed to determine differences in macroalgal coverage, and Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) was used to investigate the relationship between macroalgal coverage and oceanographic conditions. Thirteen species of macroalgae were found on Lae-lae Island, consisting of 8 orders, 9 families, 10 genera, and 13 species, with coverage ranging from 18.58%-53.44%. The two-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in macroalgal coverage between the flat, crest, and slope zones at both stations on Lae-lae Island (P > 0.05). On Barranglompo Island, 7 species were found with a relatively similar composition from 4 orders, 4 families, and 4 genera. The macroalgal coverage on Barranglompo Island ranged from 0%-26.77%. The two-way ANOVA showed that the percentage of macroalgal coverage in the flat, crest, and slope zones for both stations was significantly different (P < 0.05). The oceanographic conditions affecting the high percentage of macroalgal coverage on Lae-lae Island were current speed, temperature, TSS, nitrate (NO3), and on Barranglompo Island were salinity and phosphate (PO4).

Abstract

Chlorophyceae groups, such as Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp., are a stable group of phytoplankton with the highest abundance in Litopenaneus vannamei ponds. These two types can be used as determinant factors for water quality, growth, and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) in L. vannamei farming. This study aims to determine the correlation of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. on the water quality, growth, and FCR in L. vannamei farming. This study was conducted by survey and identification of plankton, water quality, growth, and FCR. The identified plankton was conducted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on water quality, growth, and FCR. The results of the study obtained a total abundance of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. of 91.93%. The water quality was found that most parameters comply with standards for L. vannamei farming activities, except for the parameters phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, Total Organic Matter (TOM), and ammonia. The abundance of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. has a strong correlation with a parameter of water quality in all ponds. The growth rate of Mean Body Weight in ponds is 0.4 – 24.43 grams/shrimp and has a strong correlation with the abundance of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. according to the significance value (p-value) of approximately 0.004 – 0.636. FCR value is 0.3-2.23 and has a strong correlation with the abundance of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. according to the eigenvalue of 1.032-1.670. The eigenvalue of the pond represents approximately 54.364% (pond 1), 55.658% (pond 2), 1.236, and 1.032 (pond 3) of the variable diversity. The results of the study showed that the abundance of Chlorella sp. and Chlamydomonas sp. is an indicator that influences the environment quality, growth, and Feed Conversion Ratio.

Abstract

The demand for catfish increases every year, the production that occurs is not yet able to handle market demand. To meet the demand optimally, artificial spawning is carried out using gonadotropin hormones at different doses. This research aims to determine the right use of dosage in the artificial spawning process of sangkuriang catfish based on fecundity, FR, HR and SR. This research was carried out using 3 doses, namely for treatment P (0.1 ml/kg), Q (0.2 ml/kg) and R (0.3 ml/kg), each treatment was carried out in 3 repetitions. The results showed that the administration of gonadotropins achieved the highest fertility level in in spawning with a gonadotropin dose of 0.3 ml/kg of 62,150 grains. Meanwhile, the lowest fecundity value occurred in spawning with a gonadotropin dose of 0.1 ml/kg of 46,240 grains. The highest FR value was obtained when using a gonadotropin dose of 0.1 ml/kg which resulted in the highest FR value of 98.36% and the lowest FR using a gonadotropin dose of 0.3 ml/kg of 87.85%. The highest HR value was obtained at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg of 94.20%, and the lowest HR value at a dose of 0.2 ml/kg of 68.5%. The highest SR value was obtained at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg at 94.61% and the lowest SR value at a dose of 0.2 ml/kg of 54.39%. Based on the FR value at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg of 98.36%, for the HR value at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg of 94.61%. The results of the observations concluded that the use of gonadotropins with the highest fecundity value was obtained at a dose of 0.3 ml/kg with a total of 62,150 grains. The good dose of FR, HR and SR values for artificial spawning of sangkuriang catfish with gonadotropin hormone were found at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg where the fertilization rate (FR) value is 98.36%, Hatching rate (HR) is 94.2% and survival rate (SR) is 94.61%. The value of FR, HR and SR is influenced by environmental conditions and the care carried out. Because the condition of the larvae is still very vulnerable, the immunity is still weak, rudimentary organs are still in their infancy.

Abstract

Hutumuri Country has beaches which can be said to be strategic water areas due to their proximity to residential areas. The potential resource of sea urchins makes people use sea urchins as food animals when the seasons change. There are several types of sea urchins that are used as food by local people. Such as being used as a berth for fishing boats, bameti and other coastal activities which can result in disruption of the presence of aquatic organisms, including sea urchins (Echinoidea). The results of research at the Hutumuri State Beach location show that the level of gonad maturity in the Tripneustes gratilla species during the east season consists of 2 levels of gonads, and is moniated by (TKG III) with a size range of 51 - 60 mm wide in diameter. Meanwhile, during the transition season I, individuals were obtained with (TKG V) in the range of diameter 56 - 72 mm. The Echinometra mathaei species shows a gonad maturity level during the east season of 3 gonad levels, and is dominated by (TKG IV) with a diameter of 26 - 35 mm. Meanwhile, in the transition season I it was monasted by (TKG V) with a size range of 35 - 45 mm wide diameter. In the eastern monsoon, the Diadema antillarum species found that gonad maturity occurred at stages (TKG I & II) with a size range of 95 - 105 mm in width. Meanwhile, during the first season, the Diadema antillarum species could not be found at the research location, which is thought to be due to the influence of the season.

Abstract

Feed additives or feed additives are now starting to become a necessity as additional feed in fish feed that can increase fish growth. This research aims to determine the effect of using clove powder as a feed additive in feed on the growth rate and survival rate of red tilapia fingerlings. The research was carried out at the Aquaculture Laboratory Building 4, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor from June to August 2023. The research method used is an experimental method using a complete randomized design consisting of four treatments and four repeats. The treatment used is the use of clove powder at doses of 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% as feed additives in commercial feed. The observation parameters consist of specific growth rate, survival rate, and water quality. The results showed that the use of clove powder as a feed additive in commercial feed with a dose of 0.5-1.5% tended to increase the growth rate of red tilapia fry with specific growth rate values ranging from 1.17 ± 0.30%/day - 1.27 ± 0.12%/day. The survival rate of red tilapia fry with a dose of clove powder use of 1.5% tended to give the best results (97.50 ± 5.00%). The water quality of red tilapia fry maintenance during the study met the requirements of water quality standards for tilapia farming
