Abstract

The Banda Sea is an Indonesian water body that holds potential for small pelagic fisheries resources. Situated between Sulawesi Island and Maluku, it is part of the Fisheries Management Area Of The Republic Of Indonesia (WPP-NRI 714), Male mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) is one of the fish species with high economic value, greatly favored by the community for consumption. This has led to an increase in its capture rates. Therefore, the research aims to determine the CPUE and MSY of Indian mackerel in the Kendari Ocean Fisheries Port. Data collection was conducted at the Kendari Ocean Fisheries Port from logbooks, and the research lasted from November to December 2023. The results showed that the standard fishing gear used to catch these fish is purse seine. The status of the utilization of the fishery resources is said to be experiencing underfishing. Based on the research results, the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) is 96,386 kg/year, with an optimal fishing effort of 2,300 trips/year (Fox model).

Abstract

The dynamics of swamp waters are developing very rapidly in terms of fulfilling the economic needs of the community to support prosperity. Fishing activities are one aspect of realizing these needs. Therefore, this research aims to find alternative fish bait in the swamp of Wasur Village, Merauke Regency, South Papua. Crickets (Acheta domesticus) were chosen as an alternative bait because they are still related to traditional bait, namely kroto. This research was conducted for three months (July-September 2023) using quantitative descriptive methods. The fishing technique used is using a fishing rod as is often used by the local community so that it is easy to adopt later. The research results showed that the two most dominant fish species caught were Climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) and Snakehead fish (Channa striata). There were 60 Climbing perch caught, while 42 snakehead fish were caught. Analysis of the relationship between length and weight shows that both fish species have negative allometric growth patterns. This means that the increase in body length of the fish is faster than the increase in weight. Crickets have been proven to be an effective alternative fish bait in the Kampung Wasur swamp.

Abstract

Stick is a type of snack that is long and flat with a savory and crunchy taste, made from wheat flour, eggs, salt, margarine, and water. Stick is generally made from main ingredients such as wheat flour, tapioca, and other starch sources with high carbohydrate content but low in other nutrients, thus necessitating the addition or fortification of other energy source nutrients like fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals. The addition of patin fish meat flour to onion stick products will affect the protein content; furthermore, the addition of flour to the product will impact the preference level of the onion stick. The aim of this research is to determine the optimal level of patin fish meat flour addition in the production of onion sticks to create the most preferred product. The method used is experimental, consisting of four treatments of patin fish meat flour addition: 0%, 12.5%, 15%, and 17.5%. The parameters observed in this study include a preference test (hedonic), analyzed using non-parametric statistics with the Friedman test, followed by a multiple comparison test and a Bayes test for decision making, and a proximate test to determine moisture content, ash content, fat content, protein content, and carbohydrate content. The results of the hedonic test indicated that onion sticks with 15% patin fish meat flour addition were the most preferred by the panelists, with preference scores for color at 8.3; aroma at 8; taste at 8; and texture at 7.9. The proximate content for the 15% treatment was 4.35% moisture; 2.17% ash; 36.56% fat; 9.31% protein; and 52.39% carbohydrate.

Abstract

One effort to increase squid resources in aquatic areas is by installing a squid attractor, which is used as a place for squid to release their eggs. The aim of installing a squid attractor is to create an artificial coral reef, so the construction of a squid attractor should follow the requirements for artificial coral reefs. This artificial coral reef will later become a new ecosystem in a body of water. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of a squid attractor made from palm fiber biocomposite. The research method uses a direct-trial experimental method. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis and analysis of the effectiveness of squid attractors. The research findings indicate that biocomposite attractors made from palm fiber are categorized as effective based on the number of attractors successfully attracting squid eggs. The squid species (Sepia, sp.) adhered their eggs to these attractors. The effectiveness analysis calculations show that the obtained effectiveness rate is 60%. Apart from that, this attractor made from palm fiber biocomposite effectively forms new ecosystems. This is indicated by the significant biofouling growth in the attractor made from palm fiber biocomposite. Apart from that, a fish association is around installing this squid attractor made from palm fiber biocomposite.

Abstract

Increasing catfish production must be accompanied by increasing its utilization.  One form of utilization of catfish is to make fish meal because it has wide applications in the food sector.  Catfish meat meal can be applied as an additional ingredient in the formulation for making onion sticks.   The application of adding catfish meat flour to onion stick products has an impact on the level of liking.  The addition of 15% catfish meat flour to the formulation for making onion sticks produces the most preferred product.  This research aims to analyze the proximate composition of onion sticks with the addition of 15% catfish meat flour. This experimental method is a non-designed experiment with two treatments with levels of addition of catfish meat meal.  Treatment A added 0% catfish meat meal as a control and treatment B added 15% catfish meat meal.  The parameters observed were the proximate composition of onion sticks including water content, ash content, fat content, protein content and carbohydrate content.  The data obtained was analyzed comparatively descriptively.  Based on the research results, it was found that the proximate analysis contained in the treatment of 15% addition of catfish meat flour to onion sticks was a water content of 4.35%; ash content 2.17%; fat content 36.56%; protein content 9.31% and carbohydrate content 47,61%.

Abstract

Nonvolatile flavoring ingredients greatly affect food flavor and can affect food acceptability among consumers. The purpose of this study aimed to determine the mackerel's nonvolatile taste components. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used to analyzed fish samples. 15 different kinds of amino acids were identified in the study: seven non-essential amino acids (glutamic acid, aspartic acid, arginine, alanine, glycine, serine, and tyrosine) and eight essential amino acids (lysine, leucine, valine, isoleucine, threonine, phenylalanine, methionine, and histidine). Glutamic acid (3.65%), aspartic acid (2.35%), lysine (2.37%), leucine (1.90%), arginine (1.46%), and alanine (1.41%) were discovered to be the main nonvolatile components in mackerel. Moreover, it was found that aspartic acid and glutamic acid provide the umami flavor, arginine, leucine, and lysine give the bitter taste, and alanine provides a sweet taste.

Abstract

Octopuses have a preference for colors often associated with their natural prey, such as small fish or other marine invertebrates. Bait colors that mimic this natural prey can increase the likelihood of an octopus responding and attacking the bait. Handline fishing is one of the methods used by the fishing community in Pattiro Village to catch octopuses using various bait colors, which allows for further study on the effectiveness of bait color in octopus fishing. This research aims to evaluate the impact of different bait color variations on octopus catch rates using handline fishing, with the goal of supporting the development of octopus fisheries in South Sulawesi. The study utilized an experimental fishing method, conducting octopus fishing operations using a specialized handline with colored bait. Data collection was conducted by observing local fishermen’s octopus fishing activities. Based on the effectiveness of the bait colors used, the total catch for blue bait was approximately 8.706 kg (28%), red bait was 13.980 kg (31%), green bait was 2.790 kg (9%), and brown bait was 5.600 kg (18%). The blue bait had a higher catch rate compared to red, green, and brown bait.
