Abstract

One of the reasons for the low mathematical problem-solving ability is students’ misconceptions. Therefore, it is important to identify it. Misconceptions are defined as misunderstandings of concepts due to initial understanding or errors in linking between concepts. Misconceptions can be influenced by thinking style. Thinking style is a way of organizing and managing the information obtained. Gregorc classifies thinking styles into Concrete Sequential, Abstract Sequential, Concrete Random, and Abstract Random. This research aims to identify student misconceptions in terms of thinking style and held in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The research was qualitative and descriptive, with 21 students in class VIII A of SMP Negeri 3 Rambipuji. The instruments used were a thinking-style questionnaire, diagnostic test, and interview guide. At the initial stage, a questionnaire was given to determine their thinking style. Then each student was selected to take the test. The test results are analyzed based on misconception indicators. Data were analyzed referring to Miles and Huberman's stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The research results showed that students with Concrete Sequential, Concrete Random, and Abstract Random thinking styles experienced all three types of misconceptions, while Abstract Sequential only experienced classificational and theoretical misconceptions.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal preservice mathematics teachers’ understanding of problem solving on polyhedron topics. The subjects of this research is two students who have taken plane geometry course and have already learned studied polyhedron topics.  The data collection is collected by providing a written test where the questions are non-routine problemand focused on Polya's problems solving. Futhermore, the subjects were interviewed twice to obtain valid data. Both subjects have already demonstrated problem-solving skills at the level of understanding problems. This is characterized by the ability to express problems in their own words. The ability to make plans is also good although there is one subject makes an inappropriate planning resulting in errors in problem solving.  In carrying out the plan, one of the subjects shows the ability to present solutions that are not unique or varied, not only in the types of polyhedrons but also in the sizes of each polyhendron selected. The last part is looking back and review the solution was based on the results of interviews of them. This activity actually has been  done even if it is not apparent in the answers of  the written test.

Abstract

Jambi Province, as a part of Indonesia, has an important role in contributing to the national economy. To understand economic dynamics in Jambi province, it is important to analyze domestic transactions on economic productivity. The aim of this research is to find out whether Jambi province's domestic transactions on economic productivity are productive or not, so that our research can be useful for policy makers. The method we use in analyzing the relationship between various economic sectors in Jambi province is to use the Leontief economic model, the results show the analysis by applying the results of the classification of the Jambi province domestic price transaction matrix which is modeled with the Leontief economic model using the reduction of the identity matrix with the results of the domestic price transaction matrix then the inverse results produce a negative matrix value, so it can be concluded that domestic transactions on the productivity of Jambi province are not productive. Therefore, each sector in each open unproductive sector refers to a part of a province's economy that does not make a significant contribution to economic growth or the welfare of society as a whole. Unproductive domestic transactions can harm the Jambi province's regional finances, so it is important to avoid them.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the structure of students' proportional reasoning arguments in solving comparison problems based on the solution strategy used. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. The research subjects were three students from the Mathematics Education Study Program, State University of Malang, who were selected based on differences in solution strategies, namely unit rate, cross product algorithm, and additive. The instruments used were comparison problem tests and semi-structured interviews. The research results show that students with the unit rate strategy are able to fulfill all elements of argumentation in the form of claims, evidence, and reasoning. Students with the cross product algorithm strategy are able to provide claims and evidence but cannot express logical reasoning. Meanwhile, students with an additive strategy are only able to provide correct claims without supporting evidence and reasoning. These findings indicate that argumentation of the strategies used in proportional reasoning can represent conceptual understanding
